Threeps, I would think you can’t have foul play when the ball isn’t in play, therefore if the ref thought it was a genuine attempt to win the ball then he would have needed to judge it as violent conduct to take further action. The only conclusion you can come to is he didn’t deem it so.
I’m still not sure had there been no offside if it was a sending off offence as the double jeopardy rule may have come into play…..Pagan

18th October 2020 at 9:14 pm #168656Jaws of Defeat in Relegation last season and now Played 4, Won 4 Lost Nothing 0.
It’s not Manchester City, It’s Not Liverpool, it’s not Arsenal, it’s not Chelsea, it’s not Manchester United, it’s not Tottenham Hotspur, it’s not Leicester City!
It’s The Claret and Blue, From Birmingham!
4 – 4 – 0
It’s a GREAT Start in all fairness and credit to Aston Villa with 1 Game in hand.

18th October 2020 at 9:45 pm #168660Makes a change Sean.
Outside Liverpool, it’s Leeds and Tottenham for me. I wish Harry Redknapp was in charge! If I was 15 or so right now, I’d be thinking Match or Shoot Magazine and Bale back in on the Front Cover with Kane and Son 🙂

18th October 2020 at 10:06 pm #168662This looks like it might be a very strange season. I wouldn’t rule anything or anyone out currently.

19th October 2020 at 1:20 am #168663Anonymous“Pagan you’re right about free kicks and penalties i don’t think anyone is disputing that (except me because I don’t think VvD was offside!)”
I actually rewatched it earlier and it hit me that he was actually onside too.
To anyone who doubts, go back and look at his shoulder and the defenders foot. he’s well on.
Pagan, you can copy and paste the rules all you want, maybe the professional refs haven’t read them yet? … cause they say the players are still punishable in this situation.

19th October 2020 at 7:29 am #168664Guys, what’s done is done. Very unfortunate for vvd. I hope he recovers well. He’s our most important player
Last season we got some very marginal calls. Everything fell into place for us. We had some luck which you badly need to win the league . We have had the best of time’s in the last two years. Ye I want to enjoy more but I’m very content as a kfc fan. There’s no way we were getting 97/98 points again. It’s going to be a mad season
Even without vvd we have a fantastic squad but I can see us conceding much more especially from set players
As nine days, it’s such a bizarre season. Anything can happen but I’m content at the minute. I want to do well this season but if we don’t, I’ll get over it quickly as the huge pressure of winning the league is gone.
With the pandemic ,no fans Etc tvis is going to be the most bizarre season ever.
The disallowed goal on sat would have killed my weekend usually but I got over it quickly. I’m just just going to enjoy the football as it’s one of the few bright things that can keep us going at the minute
Looks like Ireland going into another big lockdown so the football will keep me going

19th October 2020 at 7:51 am #168666AnonymousSean, My mate through a wobbly when Forrest Sold Mat Cash to Villa… I think he’ll be knocking on Englands door by end of season. Another one off their outstanding youth production conveyor belt. Got him on my Fantasy watch list… Just played my wildcard to include as many Chelsea players in one team as possible!!! JT having a desired effect as defensive coach up there? Not sure why Lampard aint pick up the phone to get him down to us…
Didnt you guys ship 7 against Villa with VVD In your team. Injuries do happen, didnt see too much in it from Pickford tbh… Keepers are usually the ones who come out worse in 50/50’s… didnt look good but this is what happens to champions. JT had sever back issues at times and we missed him. Gomez to step up for you lot. Sadly Winning the championship and defending it are very different as teams always get pumped for visiting winners.

19th October 2020 at 8:09 am #168667I forgot to make a special mention for a speedy recovery to VVD, never want to see players of his calibre get injured.

19th October 2020 at 8:51 am #168669I think the Merseyside derby only adds further evidence that no one really has a clue about the new rules. I’ve read that for offside it is as always only a part of the body that can score. I’ve also read that it is now from the “shirt sleeve”, so above the elbow is offside. I’ve read that is in fact for the new hand ball rule, anything above the elbow is allowed. Also read that is wrong and it’s the same as it was.
So I ain’t got a clue anymore, pretty sure no one has. Experts, pundits, and I’m sure players all thinking and saying contradicting things. I wish they would do offside just from the feet, would make things so much easier. Yes you would have players with heads beyond the last defender but who cares? This would be an advantage to the attacker which sounds a good thing.
If they did offside from the armpit then both VvD and Mane are onside but I think Coote did it from the shirt sleeve. Maybe this is correct now, maybe not, I just wish everyone would be told clearly.
As Sean said what’s done is done so lets move on, although I do need to laugh that 442 thinks there’s not much wrong with this 50-50 challenge 😀 (see attached)

19th October 2020 at 9:03 am #168672AnonymousThreeps…. Im an old rubbish keeper… Been on the wrong end of many of those and have dislocated most fingers sticking hands in and been clattered with ribs and all sorts popping. My favourite was the continuation of a run through the keeper or leaving boots or a shin in around at my head from a fat striker…
Mr Pickford hasn’t learnt to control his temperament yet, its costing him in games. He is faster in his head than in body, the result is in challenges like you’ve posted above. Not great, but happens in football. Teams will always try and push the boundaries against champions.

19th October 2020 at 9:11 am #168674Your description of Pickford sounds correct to me, and yes these things do happen, doesn’t mean it should be acceptable or unpunishable due to whatever reason.

19th October 2020 at 9:15 am #168675AnonymousLooks as though he’s gotten away with it, but reckon the refs will watch for it going forward with him so he has to be careful. Enjoy the rest of the day everyone.

19th October 2020 at 9:33 am #168678Sean, funnily enough, Villa were our closest challengers when we won the title back in 1990.
In spite of the long-term absence of Van Dijk, if we make the right changes and stick with them, we’re good enough to be up there.
I don’t think realistically any team will hit points in the 90s Teams already have shown so far in taking points off each other. It’s unpredictable too and there are more goals, late goals.
We’ll have to see how the rest of this calendar year pans out. If we start getting a run of wins together, I think it’ll be us and Man City at the Summit fighting it out.

19th October 2020 at 10:33 am #168679442- cash is a good player mate. Only recently converted to a full back from a winger.
Dean smith has done a great job. I noticed they have switched to 4-2-3-1 to play Barkley in his best position.
Solid at the back now and the keeper is a huge player for them. Martinez excellent keeper I have to sayv

19th October 2020 at 11:07 am #168681It’s a shame there’s another international break next month. We’ve done well considering the Pandemic, but it would be nice to get more fixtures played out.
Champions and Europa Leagues in full flow this week.
One observation noted was for some players how easy it is to be picking up injuries.
Players are super athletic, but also, the rate of our game is very fast. Crazy the amount of kilometers that can be covered. No wonder you can’t switch off.
