A Moyes side going to Leicester and scoring 3. A Mourinho side getting 6 goals away from home and the Champions conceding 7 to a poor Villa side. What a day of football!

4th October 2020 at 9:40 pm #168103I’ve mentioned this point before and quite frequently, but we need the fans back into the stadiums. These are professional matches, yet at times, they’ve been conducted like training ground exercises. The players too benefit from having supporters or something, they’ve pretty much always been used to.

4th October 2020 at 9:40 pm #168104Itβs going to be so tough for managers to coach keeping focus on the pitch this season on a consistent basis because psychologically players need fans to perform. So far Ancelotti is passing that test the best.

4th October 2020 at 9:44 pm #168106Wow, what the hell is going on in the PL this season?
Long may it continue – at this rate we could have 5/6 teams vying for the title going into the last few weeks. Still, early days though.
Just an observation but I’m not sure any complaints pertaining to the number of deflected goals Villa scored carries any water whatsoever – Barclay missed two glorious chances in the first half, Villa hit the bar late on and Adrian saved two ‘one on ones’._____________________________

4th October 2020 at 9:49 pm #168108You’re right, Gary. 7-2 flattered Liverpool and that’s the truth. Villa missed sitters tonight and still scored 7!

4th October 2020 at 9:52 pm #168109Gj, yes my complaints about the deflections were just out of frustration. Good interview from Klopp, Villa deserved much credit today and focus should be on them today.

4th October 2020 at 9:53 pm #168110AnonymousIt’s not that anyone was saying we could have got a result were it not for the 3 deflections. It could have been 10, nobody is denying that.
On their own though those 3 deflections were absolutely mental.

4th October 2020 at 9:53 pm #168111Andy, it’s been an unbelievable day in the PL (and start to the season for that matter).
I bet the bookies made a hell of a lot of money today, unfortunately._____________________________

4th October 2020 at 10:28 pm #168116Villa deserved their win and generally were well drilled tonight. Barkley will be a good addition for them. Grealish is an absolute menace and a joy to watch. Hope he gets a call up for England.
I don’t think in reality you see a top team defeated in such way ala the score line and the level of deflections. It was probably in the same league as the (in) famous beachball incident. The first goal we just effectively gift wrapped.
That deflection outside the box gave me a flashback of John Barnes’ goal against Chelsea back in 1997 at Anfield. Off the top of my head, I think that fixture was played on the 4th October. If that stat is correct, that is spooky, haha π
All in all, and I’ll be repeating myself once again, is that these teams need to be given the same level of respect as if you’re playing Bayern Munich, regardless of where they are in the table.
We need to rekindle with that mentality we had from the 18-19 season where we had the fight, the drive and the hunger to consistently deliver.
Thank goodness International Break to wipe away the gloom.

5th October 2020 at 5:28 am #168120AnonymousGood day for Londons 4 major clubs, don’t know why Lampard let Barkley go, sometimes I wonder about him, having the highest iq in football does not necessarily make you a great football manager.

5th October 2020 at 8:08 am #168122I blame West Ham they started it , that was probably the craziest day of top flight football I’ve ever seen , play those games again today and get 3 different results.

5th October 2020 at 8:26 am #168123I totally agree with the earlier point. The games are more like intensive training games. First team v second team and the second team wins. We lose 5-2 to Leicester including 3 pens They lose 3-0 at home. Villa beat sleepy Liverpool 7-2 Utd lose 1-6 even with another penalty.
I would suggest none of the above would happen in a normal season. Refs are giving decisions, right or wrong, they would not normally give. The whole thing is getting close to farce. Perhaps because there is no panto season. But who will be the villain and who the dame!_____________________________

5th October 2020 at 8:31 am #168124Probably the perfect summary from Shiney. I have a feeling that it’s going to be a much closer season at the top of the PL in respect of both the title race as well as the race for CL and EL places.
Sadly at the moment Fulham already look doomed but you wouldn’t even bet against them turning it around this season.
I’m beginning to feel sorry for Ole now he might not be the right man for United but Woodward isn’t helping him United’s transfer planning has been a mess once again and a team of United’s stature shouldn’t be scrambling around for last minute signings none of whom were probably part of the plan at the beginning of the transfer window.
Be interesting to see what today brings all round.
