A lot does depend on the manager too. When Pep leaves City, yes they’ll still have success but they won’t dominate in the way they have.

10th May 2021 at 8:59 pm #178961Interesting article from our friends at Planet Football and a slightly different way at looking at it.
Recent success is highlighted by a quick glance at the net spend per trophy over the past 10 years.
Bankrolled by billionaire owners, Premier League clubs have been throwing money at new players in the hope it translates to results on the pitch.
Using data from Transfermarkt, we’ve looked at the net spend per trophy won for the ‘big six’ Premier League clubs since the summer of 2011.
Note: we’ve not included the Community Shield as a major trophy. Sorry, Jose.
The figures show that Chelsea and Liverpool are getting a good return on their investments but Manchester United have wasted a lot of money.
While Manchester City have the biggest net spend of any Premier League side over the last decade, they do have at least have 10 major trophies to show for it.

11th May 2021 at 8:26 am #178969Double B… always had a soft spot for MoneyBags since the 81 Final, don’t know why (I think it’s about teams in red, don’t like YooUtd, so I “like” MoneyBags, don’t like LiVARberoOol, so I like “Toffees” etc….) and I have to admit I reckon YooUtd are stewing in their own juice about being the 2nd biggest club in a 2 club city so kudos there, I’ll always love that, but now you’re supported by a country (not just a local millionaire or even a bored billionaire) my soft spot isn’t so soft, if you know what I mean.
Puppy, the ongoing debate about “money” in football is never going to go away, cyber chum, but like the rest of you, I don’t really know what the solution is.
Fortunately, unless aliens land, I can’t see it getting any “higher” than being a dodgy countries “PR” campaign… hopefully!

11th May 2021 at 11:32 am #178970Chuck, Inter facing a difficult financial predicament, there is a possibility Conte could leave in the coming months, which could put Spurs on alert.?

11th May 2021 at 12:06 pm #178972No Chucky I agree we should discuss football finances they are an important subject and we will all have different opinions.
It looks like UEFA have ditched FFP and are moving towards a system of trying to manage transfer fees and wages according to what I’ve read I suspect probably as a percentage of turnover probably won’t be announced until the New Year, again from what I’ve read. Cheers 9’s

11th May 2021 at 3:06 pm #178975Why don’t UEFA just ban Agents andtake an Admin fee themselves for negotiating. Players need to ditch Agents, they take too much out of the game
A system could soon be devised so players get a fair result but all clubs and players would have to sign up for it. Billions would be saved

11th May 2021 at 3:37 pm #178976Chuky..yes I know what you mean but take the American,Middle East, Russian, Indian, Chinese, Thai etc out of our game and we are left with….?????
All fans want the investor with the biggest amount of money, at the moment, it is City, in future it will pass on to another team but Money has taken over the game. Fans hide behind the fact that they control investors decisions, they do not. I have to question some of these wealthy pundits as well with successful business, how much say do there staff and workers have in there enterprises? Very little to none I suspect. Fans having a say in the running of a football club is fanciful, Investors want success as much as them though not for the same reasons, if they are not upfor the job the end of the line will appear. They can make nice comments now and not mean them or they say nothing, some may actually do something A further question is. “having a say”. how much of a say? On what agenda…transfers, players, managers, owners ? Not going to happen guys because you will never be happy with having a say without a measure of control and I really do not see any investors doing that….unless fans buy enough control, then you open another can of worms, because fans will not collectively agree on most things. Fans should always be aware they would not be sitting in the comfortable stadiums of to day without investors and that has to be paid for and maintained. I am a big football fan, and that is all I want to be and take the “ups and downs” of football as it happens and feel no entitlement to anything football wise, Here endeth the sermon!!!! My apologies

11th May 2021 at 3:55 pm #1789779, if it’s a percentage of turnover, then it’s keeping the big clubs big and the little clubs in their place, which is wrong, but if that’s the way it goes I say let them spend what they like, but whatever they spend on transfers, agents and wages has to go into grass roots football, minimum of 10% for transfers and wages, minimum of 50% for agents fees, no signing on bonus as that could be used to circumvent the agent fee……Pagan

11th May 2021 at 4:18 pm #178979If we’re talking about leeches, sorry, I meant agents, I’d go one step further. All transactions stay between the clubs and every single penny comes out of the player’s wages etc…. Sure, wages might have to go up a bit, but I pretty certain if the players had to pay it out from their wedge, the agents “fees” will go down.

11th May 2021 at 4:35 pm #178981What do you lot think about some sort of “salary” tax like they have in certain US sports?
I know they have something in Baseball, whereby there is a set “limit”, say 100million (I’m sure it’s higher!) and if clubs go over it they have to pay the same in “taxes” so if they go to 125 million in wages, they have to pay 25 million in taxes…. so they have to pay 150million in total. Then all the Billy Big-Boots can still get their players and flash their wedge about.
Although the minute I say it, the problem there would be where would the money go once it’s disappeared into UEFA’s pockets….
I’ll get me coat!

11th May 2021 at 5:09 pm #178982I don’t think that’s fair or even lawful that a club can field a completely B team while their opponents field their strongest team and thereby jeopardizing other teams chances. Where is the fair play competition in that?
