At the rate of our “progression” we should finish about 15th next year and relagated the year after 😩

10th May 2021 at 11:31 am #178925Sounds about right Ed it won’t cause United any pain whatever happens this week but it could change the face of the race for top 4.

10th May 2021 at 11:38 am #178926Not sure about no one getting close to City next season Liverpool were a long way ahead of them last season and you would expect them to be back next season closer to the team they were with the return of Gomez and VVD and United will only be 7 points behind City this season if they were to win their game in hand.
I think next season it might well depend on what happens in the Summer transfers wise both for City and the likely chasing pack.

10th May 2021 at 11:57 am #178927Joking aside, regardless of transfers, unless “Pepe And The Amazing Technicolor Checkbook” have a bad year with a combination of injuries or form, not a lot anybody can do…. I don’t think it matters all that much.

10th May 2021 at 12:00 pm #178928Ed, don’t let chuckles infect you with his inferiority complex! Chelsea and utd can both challenge city next year and you know it 🙂

10th May 2021 at 1:07 pm #178929Sorry, Nepoleon, expecting Chelski to have a big drop from their new Manager bounce (with a bit of luck!).

10th May 2021 at 1:08 pm #178930It was better for yesterday’s game being an earlier kick-off. A travel back from Birmingham to Manchester, resting and getting through a training session today.
Ole and his staff will take stock and naturally assess. He’ll pick players accordingly. I think for tomorrow, it’ll be a selection able to contain Leicester’s energy where as for Thursday, he could start with players giving more energy to expose Liverpool’s weaknesses.
Obviously now 4th is confirmed, so United can finish lower, but Chelsea and Leicester can still finish above them so if that’s something they are particular about, then I can really see any team selections being compromised, irrespective of the pile up, albeit being a little more expansive with their squad depth, i,e, Bailly, Matic, Mata.

10th May 2021 at 2:37 pm #178938Ole already stated in his press conference yesterday he will pick a weakened side for one of these coming two games and don’t ask him about the integrity of the League because he has to protect his players.
Be amazed if Ole doesn’t pick a squad side v Leicester and his first team v Liverpool. Liverpool are a key rival historically and Old has experienced the rivalry as both a player and Manager and as the Ed said United will likely be shopping in the same pool as Liverpool in the transfer market Liverpool having no CL football would almost certainly work against them in their Summer recruitment..
If United were to beat Liverpool and stop them getting into the CL because of that United fans will be delighted.
Chelsea’s objective in the PL is to try and ensure they get back into the CL next season after that imo the focus will be on the Cup Finals trying to make up 6 points at this stage of the season with United having a significantly superior goal difference looks like a bridge too far anyway.

10th May 2021 at 2:39 pm #178939Ed..like I said before “Utd will always find the money” you are not that far behind City in spend over last 10 years. Maybe that is the reason why OS does not say it….because he knows Utd will get it.!!!!!

10th May 2021 at 2:41 pm #178941Chucky, almost into 5 months is a long time for new Manager bounce. New Manager bounce historically lasts for circa 3/4 games😊
Tuchel’s CV suggests he’s the real deal if not we can fight it out with Spurs for Big Sam.😊

10th May 2021 at 3:03 pm #178944Reports in the press today suggest that the EFL may apply a 3 point penalty against Derby County for breaking FFP rules which would relegate them and keep Wycombe up.
Seems more than a tad harsh to me?

10th May 2021 at 4:53 pm #178947Tbh I think Chucky is probably right overcoming City across a whole PL season next season will be very challenging for anyone be nice to see one or two clubs getting a bit closer to them though.
Realistically I can’t see the best of the rest being wider than United, Liverpool and Chelsea next season with the best of the rest looking to challenge them.

10th May 2021 at 5:12 pm #178949Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has hinted that he will rest a host of his Manchester United stars against Leicester City in order to keep them fresh for Thursday’s game with Liverpool.
Having fielded a strong line-up at Aston Villa on Sunday afternoon, Solskjaer is expected to make wholesale changes for tomorrow’s game against Brendan Rodgers’ side.
However, Solskjaer is then expected to recall most of his first-choice stars for the clash against the Reds at Old Trafford 48 hours later.
But many believe Solskjaer’s call will raise concerns over the integrity of the Premier League with Leicester and Liverpool among the clubs battling for a top-four spot.
However, Solskjaer has hit back at those claims and believes he has no choice but to use all the resources at his disposal due to the scheduling of his side’s games.
He said: “I wish I could have said let’s go full out in all of the games but it’s impossible.
“That’s the hard bit for me, knowing if I do play this XI on Tuesday and then again on Thursday it’s impossible, I run too much of a risk in injuring them.
“Talking about integrity in the league and stuff, don’t blame me when I have to make changes because I have to.” Liverpool Echo 10/05

10th May 2021 at 7:13 pm #178954To be honest Chuckles, one of the reasons I dislike FFP is it stops fans of other clubs having the opportunity to see their teams win things they can only dream of, it was pure selfishness by the big clubs…….Pagan

10th May 2021 at 8:24 pm #178955To counter that though, we’ve now reached an area whereby certain clubs are now being owned by countries, let alone billionaires, your Jack Walker are nothing.
FFP isn’t worth the paper it’s written on, but at least the game can pretend something exists.
Sure, happily admit I would most probably feel different if my club was in the tent pissing out, but it’s no surprise to me 3 of the 4 CL semi-finalists this year were money clubs (with the 4th being propped up by the bank of Spain)…
They will be the occasional exception of course, but for the foreseeable future the title is Cities, anybody else is only going to get a look if City has a bad year, not other clubs having a good one…

10th May 2021 at 8:46 pm #178956Chuckles….every end of season we get the next season optimism, nothing wrong with that. I do disagree, it will be a case of chasing City, my own opinion is/ there will not be a leader but 8 teams going for it, the league table will start to form in January and maybe….we have another Leicester or Everton or……….
City will transform again but how successful that will be depends on the other teams not the money and just how the squad will change and affect the style.
Not too bothered really as long as they serve up some good football

10th May 2021 at 8:47 pm #178957Ah FFP we haven’t had a discussion on that for a while.😊😊😊
UEFA have put FFP on the back burner currently and are looking to introduce new rules relevant to a post Covid era.
