If Elliot has the thought process to trail his leg, whilst taking a dive and making it look like he was taken out by a very reckless challenge then it’s the best dive in the history of football. As Nil say, the game is played in real time not slow mo.
I’m not sure what Ed and Alfie are seeing to be honest, its as clear a pen as I’ve seen recently. His foot is in a natural stride position, his stride shortened at that moment as he was turning away from WB and when you do that your stride naturally shortens. Thus why he was planted before the stretching leg of WB If he was running straight his stride would have been longer but likely hit the top of WB’s leg which again would have also been a penalty. It was just a stupid bad tackle by WB, nothing more.

8th April 2024 at 9:16 am #213706I’m not quite as convinced as Alfie/Sean are that it wasn’t a pen. I’d lean on it not being a pen but I’m not convinced that it’s a strong enough case to overturn it, which we know requires VAR to deem it a clear and obvious error. Taylor is known for never giving us anything though so I’m not for a second surprised we didn’t get the decision.

8th April 2024 at 9:29 am #213708Oh I’d have definitely taken it if it was the other way Sean, no doubt about it. Had it been overturned and we went on to take all 3, it would have been massively undeserved anyway.

8th April 2024 at 9:33 am #213709Elliot sold it, Wan Bissaka bought it.
Penalty all day long. Stay on your feet and don’t make it easy for the attacker.

8th April 2024 at 9:36 am #213710Sean, don’t worry my good friend. We’ll get over this. I think Jurgen was feeling the exhaustion y’day; probably wanted over and done with a 3 points, but didn’t quite go to plan for us. We salvaged a point that keeps us level on points with Arsenal.
If we example out 2019 and 2022, we were chasing City and took them right to the wire with a slightly bigger gap.
Nobody expected Liverpool to challenge for 4 let alone the Title as people out there tipped Chelsea and Man United.
It’s a bit of a setback from where we wanted to be. Yesterday felt like a defeat and in a way, I’m glad it did because now we will be mindful and more determined to get over the line properly each game. Missing players like Mane, Firmino, Matip, Milner, and it shows in certain games when some of our players are off it.
I’m still excited about the Europa and the run-down to the season. Title is definitely still to play for. It’s only going to take one slip up, so Chins Up 🙂

8th April 2024 at 9:39 am #213711Alfie, we’ll have to agree to disagree on the Pen mate. On the balance of play, we didn’t deserve to lose that so a draw was probably a fair result. It’s done and out of the way as far as I’m concerned. Big Big Month lots to play for.

8th April 2024 at 9:49 am #213712Fair comments nil, just dont think we will challenge for the title again anytime soon with jurgen leaving.
Ah thats it ed. Utd just seem to stay in games. It was just there for the taking and we hadnt got the balls for it
Two fantastic goals by utd in fairness

8th April 2024 at 10:25 am #213713I’m not sure whether the Gunners have a good record themselves at Old Trafford. By the time that fixture between them is reached, there’s likely to be a different proposition United i.e. Martial and Martinez should return. Maybe Luke Shaw too.
Who knows too whether there may still be an outside chance for 4th. Failing that, I’m sure they’ll be aiming to finish as high as possible with a possible sighting of an FA Cup Final for Ten Hag, so by no means is their season finished.
I’m not going to deliberately name the team on here, but I’m forecasting the fixture where I believe Arsenal will slip up. Anybody take a guess? 🙂

8th April 2024 at 10:27 am #213714Sean, agree mate. That’s why we need to squeeze out everything we can. We won’t be expected to challenge on 4 fronts.
It’s construction time for us. There will be a new Manager and players like Thiago, Matip etc will be leaving. Maybe a Big name too. It will be exciting though.

8th April 2024 at 10:40 am #213715The thought of needing to beat Arsenal with nothing for us to gain but the prize of Liverpool winning the league leaves me feeling sick 😄

8th April 2024 at 11:43 am #213717There’s lots in store like huge champions league matches. Tiredness, fresh legs etc. Its going to be a big ask even with good quality squad to manage and deliver to perfection.

8th April 2024 at 12:31 pm #213718As a neutral who doesn’t really like either side, it was 100% a penalty. Very clumsy challenge by Wan Bissaka. Entertaining game, United really are poor though. On the plus side for them, they have a star in Mainoo. What a player he is going to become!

8th April 2024 at 1:13 pm #213719Yeh Carragher was recently on the Fans Overlap and was asked what Utd player he would take if he could and he said Mainoo and I agree with him. Looks to have everything in his locker already and I love players that can run with the ball.

8th April 2024 at 1:24 pm #213720Mainoo has had an incredible rise for both club and country and appears to be what both have been in need of. Now is when the real test begins because the expectation will rise now and people expect him to perform miracles despite still only being 18yrs old. I don’t think yesterday was one of his better games, despite the goal. Has to be a contender for young player of the year, albeit it’s always hard to judge that award when players like Haaland and Saka are still eligible.

8th April 2024 at 1:28 pm #213721There should almost be a separate award for breakthrough player of the year for under 20s or something

8th April 2024 at 1:36 pm #213722Ironic thing was I was thinking just a few seconds before the goal how quiet he was. He looks a great talent, fades a little in games but that will fix itself as he gets older. Will soon need to be playing with better players around him.
I like the idea of a breakthrough award. Bradley and Quansah would be in with a shout despite the latter’s only real mistake this season yesterday.

8th April 2024 at 1:46 pm #213723Always thought “Young Player of the Year” should be changed to something like “Rookie of the Year” and oif you’ve played more than 50 games (or something like that) then you’re not a rookie any more…
