Nine.it would be nice to come through the two games but it is also a big ask. I had hoped KDB and Augerro would have been fit for the Liverpool game however, if ever there was a chance for Sterling to shine, it would be this one. We have no strikers so I think Liverpools CB problem may not be as bad for them. I came to the conclusion long ago Jesus is not a striker, better employed on the left

2nd February 2021 at 10:16 pm #174711As clear a red as you’ll see Adlab. Felt for the lad on his debut but he gave the ref no choice.

The second red and penalty was a joke of a decision though. Referee completely got that one wrong. Var incorrectly overruled a Utd penalty earlier in the game though, in fairness. Game was well and truly gone by the pen either way.

3rd February 2021 at 7:58 am #174715Just watched it. Definitely a red. Ouch! Good for United supporters but 10 men after 3mins no team in the league can handle that.
Puts more pressure on us to get a result tonight._____________________________

3rd February 2021 at 8:07 am #174716City are just so clinical usually when the pressure is on Adlab but there have been so many strange results this season.
I really think this week will tell us whether or not there will be a title race or whether City will just start to widen the gap. 6 points from Burnley and Liverpool and nobody will be betting against them. Anything less than 6 and we might have an exciting run-in for the neutrals.

3rd February 2021 at 8:12 am #174717Ah just saw Nine said very much the same thing about the Burnley and Liverpool games on Monday. Hadn’t seen that. Yeah 2 massive games for City and for the title race in general

3rd February 2021 at 8:29 am #174718Ed, I think a win at Turf Moor and a point at Anfield would be good for City two tough games for City playing Burnley is never comfortable and City haven’t won at Anfield in circa 18 attempts.
I think the big plus for City this season is the strength of their defence. But no KDB and no Aguero are huge losses offensively. Sunday’s game is probably a must not lose for Liverpool assuming both Clubs win their midweek games.
Should Liverpool go 7 points behind with City also having a game in hand and a better goal difference that would be extremely hard to overturn.
My money would be on a draw on Sunday which certainly wouldn’t be the worst result for either Club.

3rd February 2021 at 8:40 am #174719Yeah I think you’re right there Nine. A win tonight then a point on Sunday puts City in a very good position. Assuming all other games are won by the top 3 leading up to Sunday (of course, not a given), a draw would mean:
1. City Played 22 Points 48
2. Utd Played 23 Points 47
3. Liverpool Played 23 Points 44Despite Utd’s current position, Liverpool are the only side capable of pushing City all the way still, so that would leave Liverpool a huge hurdle to climb.

3rd February 2021 at 9:09 am #174720I also think Leicester will drop away, opening up the top 4 race again to the likes of Chelsea, Everton and Spurs. They did the same last season and it’s something that I think Rodgers’ teams seem prone to.

3rd February 2021 at 10:40 am #174722The Anfield crowd usually plays a big part in these games. Not available this time.

3rd February 2021 at 1:28 pm #174724I agree completely with Arsenal’s fans, some referees are either blind or corrupt.I mean, just look @ referees last night in games of United and Arsenal, pure crime, and should be investigated by authorities, period!Luiz did nothing wrong.I really believe that nobody gives a fxxxck anymore.

3rd February 2021 at 2:17 pm #174728Mav, it’s a rules problem “see below” rather than a Referee problem. The Referees have to enforce the rules this rule needs to be changed. Very harsh on both players last night.
“In terms of bringing the player down, yes, he doesnβt make an attempt on the ball – thatβs the important thing – had he have made an attempt on the ball, it would be a yellow card plus a penalty kick.
“But because he hasnβt made an attempt on the ball, and the ball is not within playing distance, that becomes a red card and Craig Pawson has no opportunity to give a yellow.
“It has to be a red card and a penalty kick.
“If I can just add: thatβs the third time I think David Luiz has been sent off for a similar offence, so you say players should learn and understand, maybe so.β Peter Walton.

3rd February 2021 at 7:53 pm #174740Good win for us. Credit where it is due. I don’t think Atkinson made a mistake.
Still looking good even without KDB and Aguero._____________________________
