I don’t agree with that it makes us a more technical team as we have always kept possession before thisgo came. We could keep the ball. He tries to move it quick. He has the legs proven by his recoveries. He’s not about dreading balls through. Our midfield hsd never been like that. Yesterday showed us we needed him in midfield as we could not get on the ball when he was played as a ten We had 38% possession ydsy which I’d say is our worst possession stats in a long long time. We were much weaker without him in there yday? Did you see the game? It was our worst performance on the ball in a longtime. Maybe trans have us sussed as Robo or Trent barely have any space.
In anyway, if he does make us more technical as you say, is it a bad thing , do you imply it has made us a weaker team with him in there? as we nearly won 4 trophies last season? I get we need legs in there also but he recovers the ball more then anyone and presses well. The problem is fabhino and Henderson.
I’m sick of defending the team. I’ll give them a bad season after absolutely running themselves into the ground last year playing 64 games. We have injuries and players bang out of form. We could be exhausted that’s my excuses for us anyway . I’ll support the manager no matter what
I don’t think you have an agenda. You know your stuff and I do take onboard what you say. So many players are playing bad which effects the team. Matip has been awful. It’s the whole team from back to front , it’s not just the midfield even though it’s a major question. Fabhino and Henderson’s performances are not because if thisgo. It wasn’t an issue last season when all we’re performing

15th January 2023 at 9:12 am #202973I have to say after reviewing the offside or not incident on MOTD from the Manchester Derby in a bit more detail Akanji stopped because Rashford was so clearly offside and Ederson seemed to shape up to save a shot from Rashford which on reflection makes it look harsh as where Rashford was did potentially interfere with play.
Problem is as Mikus suggested yesterday this is self created with the amended rule.

15th January 2023 at 9:47 am #202975Regarding Thiago, he is or was a great player, but runner he never was. He said something like Klopp taught him how to run as it was never his game. He’s 31 now, some players their legs go around 30. Last season you say wasn’t a problem when we nearly won everything but where a couple of kicks from winning nothing, I say the cracks were starting to appear and now they are fully exposed.
Our midfield no longer presses, our forward no longer drops into midfield to press the DM gubing the opposition an outlet or more area for our midfield to cover.
Is this just age in which case our recruitment has failed for many seasons or tactics. I suspect its a bit of both. Go more technical to save the legs for later in the season but screws us for the now. Problem is we are a team that is neither one or the other, a complete mess tactically. Players who are now older have to cover more area because other players don’t have the legs. Gaps everywhere, mistakes everywhere, it’s a vicious cycle.
Play Thiago, play Fabinho or even Elliot, but have 2 strong athletic midfielders with them. Not 2 of them it doesn’t work, and definitely not all 3. But yet we do.
Not just me saying it although I wasn’t influenced by what Carra said. Our problems stem from the training pitch and tactics board, combined with poor recruitment.

15th January 2023 at 10:39 am #202977All I’ll say for those (not here but elsewhere) criticizing Jurgen Klopp, the man has won every trophy available to us and that is one hell of an achievement.
When it comes to the Champions League, whether guided by Mancini, Pellegrini or Pep, Manchester City have failed.
We’ve spent money yes, but bucketloads are not available to us. We have to go through struggles, but this does need to be acknowledged and accepted that rebuilding needs to take place from this summer.

15th January 2023 at 10:43 am #202978We’re not applying pressure 3p’s because we don’t have players who can do it or are doing it. Mane played deep. He also had dribbling ability to unlock defenses. Firmino, Luis Diaz, and Diago Jota who can trouble defenses are all unavailable at the moment.
Our game has become limited. Tiago and Fabinho along with Henderson are ageing and won’t apply themselves box-to-box. We’re not for now playing why I see as gegenpressing as our midfield is overrun and I don’t see us dominating possession in games.

15th January 2023 at 12:57 pm #202981Finally seen yesterday’s highlights. The best way to describe us at the moment is simply numbers and red shirts. We are dis-functional. Why? The obvious I see is that we are disjointed. The way we’re set up, our positional play and mainly the fact that we are so-far apart, it’s no wonder we can’t put a sequence of passes together and develop any link up play.
Nobody knows anybody from Adam. Even Klopp can’t figure it out he is so amazed and bewildered with what he sees. There’s no co-ordination, no authority and no purpose.
Right now we are plummeting. We are not even playing like a Premier League team. We need a brand new template and a RESET. Any team can beat us that’s how abject and poor we have become.

15th January 2023 at 1:29 pm #202985Sean, I remember you mentioning 2010 when we were at our lowest point and I fully subscribe to that because it’s true and it coincides with the super times we’ve experienced, because that’s part of being a supporter to go through good and bad times.
It can’t always be good. 2017 to 2023 is now 6 years. We are expecting players to maintain A) 4-3-3, B) High Press, C) Fitness, D) Individual Technical Ability. Other teams in the Premier League have improved and are competitive. In fact, I truly love and embrace our league because of this and it’s not just about Real Madrid and Barcelona, otherwise, it’s bland, boring and predictable, and all money driven.
We’ve won the lot mate. I am happy albeit I wanted one more Title out of those marathon head-to-heads with Man City when we still in the title race even on the last day. That’s my only disappointment, otherwise we achieved above and beyond.
But you’re right. Now is the time for Klopp to recognize what we are, where we are and reinvent our wheel. Forget about the history of Dortmund. If we all get behind him, this is his new challenge to recreate us and reignite some spark back in our team.

15th January 2023 at 1:34 pm #202986There needs to be clear guidance going forward and a stance in applying the rules correctly. Regardless of contact of the ball not being made, that player’s presence as far as I am concerned impacted that passage of play as it would draw an opposition player to essentially monitor his movements. Akanji was right in point out this as a distraction. I mentioned last night inadvertently a decoy.
Players could use this as a tactic and a loophole by not touching the ball, being a dummy, but in an offside position. The ball was intended in essence into the path of Rashford even though the eventuality of it was Fernandes taking the final touch.

15th January 2023 at 1:53 pm #202987I am surprised more players have not exploited this rule more over the years. reading the rules, there seems to be a contradiction when it comes to offside as well.

15th January 2023 at 2:11 pm #202989I know CM. It’s an interesting loophole and can be sold as a decoy to pull defenders apart.

15th January 2023 at 4:05 pm #202993Big win for Newcastle.
Conte talks about money yet spent 45m on Spence and biousma and rarely plays them. Biousma can’t even get in instead of sarr.
