Man Utd have some very good players, but they do seem to lack charters and leaders on the pitch. The Southampton goal summed them up today. Fernandes outmuscled off the ball, some quick play by Southampton and a goal. I think Southampton outmuscled them on several occasions which would concern me if I was a fan. Also, although Man Utd can be very effective, do they have a strong enough identity to have that belief in every game?

Surprise Surprise Sean thinks Utd will easily win π
Usual today. Failing to turn dominance into 3 points. It was our downfall last season in these games that we should be winning and it’s looking like being the same this season.
Thought Southampton got lucky with their goal which looked a clear foul on Bruno in the build up.

Proper away day mugging there, I would be a bit miffed if I was a Wolves fan… but then again, I think Hugo made maybe 3 saves all game, no good having all the ball if you do naff all with it!

Mikus, I don’t buy that at all. You don’t have the amount of points gained from losing positions Utd have from not having enough characters/leaders in the side. I always give us a chance when we go behind.
Utd have now equalled the record for the most away games undefeated in the PL. Avoid defeat at Wolves on Sunday and it’ll be a new record.

Ed, I think last season Man Utd got into a very good groove which also helped confidence in such situations. I’d just worry they are more a team who can go on runs but can’t sustain them over a season. They just seemed to fizzle out today not long after they scored. I think they’re desperate for a Roy Keane type figure in there.

That’s it Nine. I kind of see what you mean Mikus but I’m not sure the type if player you’re talking about, a Keane type, exists in the modern game. We’re certainly short of top quality in defensive midfield though. Magic doesn’t have the legs any more.

Ed, I just mean someone to get a grip sometimes in the middle of the park. I agree that kind of defensive midfielder is out of fashion now – what you tend to have now is midfielders who are either very mobile and put a shift in like Kante, or can read the game very well like Fabinho. That’s the modern equivalent of what I think you need.

I’m trying to understand the 62% possession quoted for Chelsea. The balls appeared more in their own half, but Arsenal just letting themselves down in that final attack. They need more shots on target and test the Chelsea keeper.

Yeah I don’t disagree Mikus. Very difficult to find top players in that position but it’s definitely somewhere I think we’ll look to strengthen

There is no easy game. I would expect a reaction from Arsenal next week.
Kane ? I dont think he will be coming to City. Will we make another signing? We do have a habit of keeping most things quiet on the transfer front apart from this season. We’ll see.
Utd were ok today but still missing something. Leadership?
