25th August 2021 at 9:42 pm #183471Brian, I did think levy would come down a bit in the end and a deal would be struck as like you I thought it needed putting to bed and for spurs to move on.
I don’t think levy has made a mistake as spurs would never get a replacement close to Harry and while no other club would pay over 100m for him it doesn’t mean he is not worth it to spurs.
I like Harry kane I think he has been terribly managed and advised and all young players should take note. I truly believe he does love spurs and levy knows that as long as kane is wearing a spurs shirt he will give it his all, so I don’t see a risk in preventing the move unless it was for stupid money.
Respect to both levy and city to be fair. kane was the deluded one and when you are that good at football you should make sure you get the representation and advice your talent deserves.

26th August 2021 at 9:17 am #183488They all talk about how tough Daniel Levy is. Is he really? Tell me what have Spurs done since he became Chairman? Tough negotiator? Not in my eyes. Any fool can say no but is that always the best policy? I never thought we would get Kane as I said many times in previous posts.
And as for that idiot on the transfer show on Sky Michael Bridge, he clearly does not understand football finances. Why dont tney put people who know about the problems of football finance rather than complete dickheads who would have difficulty understanding the impact of leaveraged buyouts or the impact of massive debt instead of saying this club could pay Β£100m or that club could spend this etc..SPURS..
New stadium…yes. Huge debt to go with it.
Spurs is owned by a non-resident billionaire so its not as though there could be no invesment.
So Mr Levy not so cleaver!_____________________________

26th August 2021 at 9:25 am #183489It’s so easy, isn’t it, Adders? If only we all had limitless funds from a soverign state, a desperate need for decent “PR” to overlook other issues, and the best creative accountants in the world….

Its a tricky draw. Dont underestimate Wycome. It could have been WHU.Yes of course I would have liked Kane. What I was alluding to was the myth about Daniel Levy. He has a very wealthy owner but has been singularly unsuccessful as Chairman.
Tottenham Hotspur owner Joe Lewis β $5 billion and he is now 82.
City owner has personal wealth of an obscene Β£30billion. That is personal wealth never mind the oil rich state of Abu Dahbi.
PSG is effectively slightly different in that it is more state owned although I dont think there is too much different. But back to Levy.
Chucky…do you think he’s been good for Spurs over the past 20 years. I’m not so sure. More he likes to bask in the media hype about being tough. Ask Berbatov, Modric and Bale!_____________________________

26th August 2021 at 10:44 am #183498Adders, do I dislike Levy for not rolling over and having his belly rubbed when check-book clubs coming knocking on his door? No, I don’t.
I genuinely believe he does have the Super Spuds best interests at heart. Sure, he may have made so dodgy calls over the years, some having proven to perhaps not have been the best interest of the club in the long run.
We have arguably the best stadium in the world, certainly in Engerland, there’s been a hell of a lot of comments about how brilliant the training ground is (don’t quite understand that myself, a pitch is a pitch is a pitch!), and a decent squad with some very decent players in it (certainly when you compare it to other squads we’ve had over the years!).
As several other fans on here can attest too, having a billionare owner is one thing, having a billionare owner who’s happy to squander his billions on a “hobby” is another. especailly when those particular billionares have got their billions of questionable sources and come from countries with questionable practises.

I dont doubt he has Spurs best interests at heart. No question. But I question his lack of success.
The stadium. Fabulous, I agree. But it has created huge debt and a team not quite at the top.
Or would you have preferred White Hart Lane and a EPL title etc.The practices of the emirate states…not for me. I mean they allow women to drive now! Seriously though we are lucky but I wouldnt trust them as far as I could throw them although our lot are nowhere near as bad as Qatar. But you also have to ask how Abramovic got his money.
Frankly football finances stink. Not so long ago we had Blatter and friends and there was Platini.

26th August 2021 at 11:22 am #183506Adders, as somebody who’s seent the underbelly of both UAE and Qatar, there really isn’t a lot of difference, cyber chum! That’s really a case of which one of the Ugly Sisters is better looking.
As for the Mighty Spuds, my understanding is that stadium wasn’t quite as expensive as the press like to make out, the loans on it weren’t quite as much as the press make out, and the repayments are more than easily covered by the “extra” events (which unfortuantely haven’t kicked in yet for obvious reasons)- Lessons were learned from watching that mob down the road to make sure the same ‘mistakes’ weren’t made.
I like to think, rather than have a “boom and bust” and spend a boatload for one title, Levy is planning for the long haul (the very sodding long haul! π ), so building a stadium to massively increase turnover etc… isn’t the worse way to do it.
So, unless Mr. Walker goes mental in his old age and decides to go all “check-book” sytly, we don’t really have an option. And selling our best players all the time isn’t the way to do it either. I don’t really care about the balance sheet, selling Kane for 150 million only means we might get one or two top. top players and we all know buying players is a gamble (for every De Bryne, there’s a Werner!). I’d rather keep Harry, we know what we’re getting there, than take the gamble.
At the end of the day, it’s not my bank account! π

26th August 2021 at 11:37 am #183510Itβs a fine place to play and all the extra seating they managed to get by not having to include any space for silly old cups and honours and the like was a master stroke!!
Nancy hate to admit it but your Wimbledon comment did make me laugh π

26th August 2021 at 12:12 pm #183511Aim to please, Buffy (although your joke about our trophy cabinet is older than your pants!) π
Haven’t had the chance to go in it, but I did get to drive past it about 1 o’clock in the morning pre-COVID, all light up for some reason, and if it’s half as good inside as it is outside… bloody hell, it’s just impressive but it’s bloody massive too!!
Did read somewhere that the bean-counters projected an income of 5 million plus per event (including Spuds games) before we even get to the ticket sales (or slice of the ticket sales for non-Spud events), and as they are aiming for 60-80 events a year (a little optimistic to me if I’m honest!), that’s a lot of “turnover” to go on our books… going to be interesting to see what the numbers are when COVID is finally under control and it’s fully up and running.
As for the debt, by all accounts, it’s around the 400 million mark and due over 25 years… or about 16 million a year, or less than the income from 4 events… (yes, I know, costs, etc… mainly the bloody electric bill for starters!)
Fair to say I’m a lot less conerned about it than many of you are… π
