25th August 2021 at 1:58 pm #183416Chucky, nobody hates Utd’s debt more than Utd fans. It’s the root of all the protests over the years. With that said, leveraged buyouts like the Utd buyout involving clubs with a high enough turnover to service the debt may indeed be the only way clubs can compete with the oil state owned clubs going forward. There are only so many multi billionaires in the world.
Leveraged buyouts wouldn’t be so bad if there at least was an obligation to pay off the debt itself within a reasonable timeframe IMO.

25th August 2021 at 2:12 pm #183418The outcome of the Harry Kane situation was inevitable City were never going to pay Β£150m plus for him which Levy was seemingly holding out for.
Not sure what “staying at Spurs this Summer” is meant to mean though?
Kane made it clear he wanted to go to City but he just couldn’t extricate himself from his 3 year contract he probably needs to sign a new improved contract at Spurs to put this all to bed without of course he’s reached a Gentleman’s agreement with Levy that he can leave in January or next Summer.π

25th August 2021 at 2:13 pm #183419I’m not following Chucky. Which loophole am I using? π.
I think you’ve misunderstood me. I hate what has happened to Utd and the debt. Spurs have the biggest debt in the league too so your lot aren’t any better. I’m only saying that I think taking on debt to buy clubs (with an obligation to pay it back in a reasonable timeframe) might be the only way, going forward, for clubs to compete with the state owned clubs. There simply aren’t many people or states who are able and/or willing to invest at the level needed to compete in the modern game.
I’m not in any way defending Utd’s debt. Again, I hate what the Glazers have done re the debt, as do all Utd fans.

25th August 2021 at 2:37 pm #183425As usual Chucky you lose your s**t in any negative circumstances involving Spurs, you even left the site for good a couple of weeks ago.π€£
It wasn’t me but Harry Kane who said he’s staying at Spurs “this Summer”.
If you want to throw insults around by calling people a “dick” I suggest you aim it at Harry Kane who has been a complete dick over the last few weeks.
As I indicated in my post the best thing Harry Kane can do now is sign a new improved contract at Spurs and put this all to bed!

25th August 2021 at 2:42 pm #183428Nine, I think this is where Levy has lost out, he still has a player who wants to leave and he has passed up an inflated figure. OK, his decision, doubt if Kanes advisors can do anything about it either. I am just happy he is not coming to City, a risk too far for me and he guarantees nothing but with the midfield players we have they can all contribute well during the season. I would still prefer a younger up and coming player, maybe, just maybe Delap will fit that role but I also think it is a little early for him to impact on the EPL, so, we go with what we have got. However, the big saga is over…what has the media lined up next I wonder

25th August 2021 at 2:57 pm #183431Ed..that is perfectly sensible way of looking at leveraged buys and debt. You need a clarity on pay back, but in business terms it never happens, clarity”.. City or the City Group, are taking on debt for the first time to finance a new stadium in New York, I am fairly sure that will have a clear pay back period.
What the Galziers are doing is normal for US business, also, look at the “raiders” on the UK market at the moment, anything from Supermarkets to Aerospace and defence business. I have worked for two major US Companies, one may be described as “the old lady” of American business the other a typical “wheeler-dealer” there are differences in the American world, we just appear to be getting the latter recently. What they are doing with Utd is alien to fans but fans are not in the equation, brands are. It is not right but who or what can change it? I do not know the answer to that_____________________________

25th August 2021 at 2:59 pm #183432Kane not going to City makes the PL title even more interesting. Kane at City with the likes of KDB supplying him would have scored a hatful imo the PL title race could be a bit more competitive now.
Windows still open until 11pm next Wednesday be interesting to see what last minute deals might be done between now and then.

25th August 2021 at 3:06 pm #183433Adlab, Iβd say City are the last club to be claiming βone rule for some, one rule for othersβ after the FFP breaches theyβve got away with over the years while others try to stay within the rules.
A bit naive Ed….All clubs try and get around the rules not stay with them, by staying within the rules they have just not found a way around them
That is the way business works

25th August 2021 at 3:39 pm #183436Sounding like it’s getting very messy between PSG and Real Madrid now. PSG insisting they won’t accept less than they paid for him (β¬180mil) so they refused β¬160mil. Though they insisted Mbappe has promised he won’t go for free. Promises, gentlemen’s agreements…When will people learn?

25th August 2021 at 3:53 pm #183437The point I have always made with my accountants hat on is that the most dangerous thing for any business and any individual is spiraling debt which eventually cannot be serviced and repaid. If there is any doubt look at the finances of Barca. In any other setting they would have had to call in the Receivers.
Real is similar.City are wary of the financial situation these days and are on the track of selling if you wish to buy as exemplified so far this season. So far a net spend of about Β£40m. From a simplified accounts perspective that would probably lead to a small impact on P&l. Plus no effect on debt.
Their approach is very different from the early days of 9 or 10 years ago building the club and infra-structure.
I hope that if we decide to spend silly money it is matched largely by further sales. Were we to sell Bernardo for Β£40m as has been suggested albeit spread, the net spend would be next to zero.
Obviously I dont know about the timing effects of the transactions that is of minimal significance,_____________________________
