Ed, very wise. I think we can all agree though that Jim Ratcliffe would almost certainly be United’s best potential new owner.😊

18th August 2022 at 8:47 am #197798How many clubs does Jimbo support? It will be Spuds next week, and the Goonies after that…
He’s just a Micheal Knighton with more money.. 🙂

18th August 2022 at 8:54 am #197799Foxy, utd have been poor for a number of years now but klopp took over pool with an awful team and turned them back into a force within a few years.
The right manager with the right recruitment over 2 or 3 seasons and utd are back comfortably in top 4 imo.
I don’t agree that top managers wouldn’t go to utd for years. That squad is so thin now that if you remove ronaldo then there is no possibility to get in top 4 really. This means the expectations and perspectives will finally get to where they should have been a few seasons back. If the current owners or new owners can accept the reality then they can offer the kind of project to a top coach that pool offered klopp. So many top managers imo would jump at the chance to be part of a genuine 2 to 3 year revolution of the club and team and be part of rebuilding utd.
I think ten hag or poch could probably do that, just needs the players and time to do so and I don’t think any manager post Sir Alex has had enough of both.

18th August 2022 at 9:31 am #197801Chucky, Ratcliffe has been a season ticket holder at Chelsea for a while but that’s because he lives in London. He owns Nice and threw his hat into the ring to buy Chelsea but he is a life long United fan.

18th August 2022 at 11:06 am #197802According to Wikipedia, the Glazers bought Man Utd for around £800 million back in 2005. According to Forbes they’re now worth around £3.7 billion. So the asset has increased by nearly 5 times in just 17 years. And still there are billionaires queuing up to buy these clubs. The sky seems to be the limit.

18th August 2022 at 11:15 am #197803So buy a club with its own money, then sell it and make 4bn? What did the club and fans get out of it?
It’s such a shame they were allowed to buy the club like they did.

18th August 2022 at 11:55 am #197804Lucky/Mikus…what I find difficult to understand is that at the time of the Glaziers buy out, I do not think Utd were in any debt, ED. will correct me if I am wrong, now, they are 500 million in debt..which is real money. I just fail to understand why somebody would buy debt, service themselves, put money in for Utd day to day expenses including new players….there is no short term fix here. However, if somebody took a longer term view say 10 years and could structure finances better it maybe possible In these uncertain days that would be a brave move for even a Billionaire Also, at the back of this, do the Glaziers really want to loose control, selling minority shares will never be a problem…how about fans getting more???? My thoughts on this is, if the Glaziers had put in a half decent structure and gave the Managers the responsibility of players that would be most of problems solved but there are just too many “cooks” and some with a non football brain running the club. It will be interesting to see how this works out but chasing the market for players at this late stage does not look good.

18th August 2022 at 12:02 pm #197805Stadium needs work as well Brian. And training facility I believe. That won’t be cheap either.

18th August 2022 at 12:54 pm #197806The-Club-That-Can’t-Be-Named “AND” YooUtd? The ultimate glory hunter by the sounds of it… 🙂
Shame really, quite like his new car but won’t be buying one of them (which is annoying when I quite like those custom Land Rovers that the “Chelsea Truck Company” make too, but I won’t be buying one of them either!)

18th August 2022 at 12:56 pm #197807I heard on SSN’s today that the Glazers value United at £6m and MUST are saying any new owner must invest in the redevelopment of the Stadium and the team which could cost up to another £2 billion. The above might limit the runners and riders if the Glazers do eventually put United up for sale.

18th August 2022 at 2:00 pm #197810Chucky, Ratcliffe was asked when linked with a buyout of Chelsea why he wasn’t buying Utd and simply answered “because they’re not for sale”. There’s no doubt who he supports but he’d have had no issue buying Chelsea or any other top club because he wants to get into the game at the top.
It all sounds a bit too good to be true IMO. Likely nothing significant will happen.

18th August 2022 at 2:27 pm #197811Sweedy, everything has a price, everything can be bought (look at MoneyCity and “The-Club-That-Cant-Be-Named” as examples.. 🙂 ), if Jimbo was anything more than “talk”, he would be slapping his wedge down on a table and telling people to choke on it… if he really wanted either club, he would have bought them by now. None of you lot will know when I’ve bought the Mighty Spurs until you see me holding up the shirt!!
Like I said, he’s just a richer version of that Micheal Knighton fella… all mouth and no trousers.
You’re stuck with the Glazers until either the Chinese government need some good PR or perhaps the Zoltan’s from planet Gumpff…

18th August 2022 at 2:40 pm #197812Obviously everything has a price but people don’t bid to buy my house when it’s not for sale do they? Not without paying over the odds.
Chelsea had a number of offers when it was clear they were for sale. How many times did we hear of people wanting to buy Chelsea before that became apparent?

18th August 2022 at 2:44 pm #197813As I said before, certainly not holding my breath on anyone like Ratcliffe actually buying the club. Still, I think it’s very naive to say he would have bought it regardless, if he wanted it, before now. You don’t amass the fortune he has by paying over the odds for things, which is what will inevitably happen when you try to buy something which is not for sale.
Don’t for a minute think it will happen and if state ownership by some questionable regime is the alternative, I’d much sooner keep the Glazers anyway.

18th August 2022 at 3:28 pm #197814Ed..as to questionable regime, we need to look at our own record as well. We are still being accountable by people, organisations and countries for past demeanours if you agree with them or not. Stones and glass houses come to mind.I am proud of my countries achievements in history but also feel ashamed at some of the things we have done, we have done more than others to progress the world but our time has past as a major player. If City owners had decided on Utd instead of City we would not be having this conversation and you know it

18th August 2022 at 3:41 pm #197815If I was a utd fan I’d take casemerio all day long. Him and de Jong be excellent as a double pivot
Big money for someone who 31 in 6 months but utd badly need someone like him.

18th August 2022 at 3:44 pm #197816Brian, in your position, considering where City were before the new owners, I can totally understand the feeling of brushing things under the carpet. I simply don’t agree with state ownership and the regimes who usually accompany such styles of buyouts.
I wouldn’t for a second hesitate to say I’d choose a Glazer style buyout over a questionable state ownership every day of the week, though. I’m sure many Utd fans disagree with me though. It’s just my opinion.

18th August 2022 at 3:57 pm #197818When you see fees like that Sean, £50mil for a 30yr old Casemiro looks like a steal 😁. It’s a lot of money but his age doesn’t worry me too much. I couldn’t care less about sell-on value and so on at this point. We just need better players and he is definitely that. We’ll see.
