16th August 2022 at 3:17 pm #197731Let us not forget about this match…Crystal Palace are not a bad team…they have beaten us at home and PV is making them very difficult to play against. We play them soon I think, so they will now fancy there chances again now. Nunez was daft but I would not make a big thing of it, Liverpool have plenty up front to give any team the jitters. I also think Diaz will be more potent than Nunez

16th August 2022 at 5:05 pm #197732Last Night was a disaster there’s no two ways. Above all we have to take into perspective, we didn’t lose the match and found away under the circumstances to earn a draw.
In some weird way, it reminded me of us playing Spurs at Anfield last season when we needed all 3 points.
I have to say though Zaha’s finish was absolutely stunning and they timed that run to perfection. Palace can be a tough nut. I think last season at home we struggled a bit. In saying that we created chances, but should really have made something count.
These opposition teams need the Respect they deserve. If we continue like this, there’s a possibility of an outside Top 2 finish, maybe 4th. Tougher League.
My position on Trent has always remained the same with him being great going forward. For him to be mentioned one of the best in the world has really lowered the standards of great full-backs in my opinion – I’m talking Javier Zanetti and Ac Milan as an example. Rob Jones was one of the best in a Liverpool shirt, but unfortunately plagued with injury.
I know these days, there’s a thing about assists, but my attitude is first and foremost Clean Sheet and Defending. At times, he’s a liability I’m sorry to say and will always be as long as implements his playing style.
4 points adrift of the leaders is not the end of the world. A Nightmare for Darwin which I’m sure he’ll put right. Another Monday Night game which I hope we don’t flare up – surely not for the third time!

16th August 2022 at 5:45 pm #197733There must be a joke along the lines of Darwin needs to evolve but I’m not smart enough to come up with one!

16th August 2022 at 6:12 pm #197735Threeps describes it perfectly about Trent. The system doesnโt help the chap
I think Reece janes is a wonderful player. Really top class full back. Problem is people compare him and Trent and itโs very unfair. James has 3 centre backs behind him. Robertson on the left had van dyke behind him. There is an issue with how he defends his bsck post but heโs 23. Heโs a scouser and future Liverpool captain. Outstanding player.

16th August 2022 at 6:31 pm #197737Football is a game won by the team that makes the fewest mistakes. I’m afraid for all Trents world class ability up top, he costs us too much at the back over a season. Yes, the team’s won big trophies with him, but not the same amount as City have over recent years. The midfielders are also aging and out of form and so exacerbating the problems. There are also issues up top. As I’ve said before, Klopp can paper over these problems with great effect with the high work rate and press of the team. But I think its now got to the point where he’s struggling to do that. C’est la vie.

16th August 2022 at 6:51 pm #197738Mikus, fully agree with those points.
This is exactly my position on this/Trent. I read on the comments page of the official highlights, Trent worked hard; so he’s basically been doing the duties a midfield should have been doing in the first place.
I don’t agree with that in the slightest because first and foremost, he’s a defender and that’s his number 1 priority. What is the Right-sided midfielder installed for? What is he doing throughout the match?
I’m am too a bit critical on Klopp because he needs to be able to variate his tactics and style so that it’s less unpredictable and the opposition don’t find us out. Unfortunately too we are struggling without Tiago and the void of Mane. Nunez is going to need time.

16th August 2022 at 7:28 pm #197739Mikus…I go along with the “evolution of the game” principle as it happens to most teams. Fans cling on to there period of dominance, Liverpool, Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs for a time. At the time everybody thought this dominace would last forever, of course, it never does and in my opinion, no bad thing. City have it at the moment, at some point point this will change and another will “Pop” up. Newcastle maybe, My soft spot for Everton who I remember well when they had a fantastic team possibly revive themselves. If I look at the tables now, all leagues, find teams like Sunderland, Blackpool, Preston and more…they were class acts and then think how did they get where they are to day? I know the dynamics of Finance now plays a big part to day but it was still relative long ago. There was also less player imports or I should say virtually none. Players thought twice before leaving unless you were a big star like Stanley Matthews to Tommy Lawton
I do remember a buzz about a player called Frank Soo of Stoke City and Roboleda at Newcastle who even had an AMERICAN footballer called Albert Stubbins I think;;;I wonder about that, an American called Albert!!!The point of this ramble though Mikus is…the game evolves, players come and go and teams have ups and downs and always will. The reason why I cannot get emotional about a football team to that extent, love watching it happen but after 90 minutes it is over until the next game. For some fans though…the team is there life..and I can understand that as well

16th August 2022 at 7:44 pm #197740Indeed Brian, I think Klopp came across a perfect storm a few seasons ago with that front 3, a very efficient midfield, and a back five with a very good new goalkeeper and Van Dijk introduced. And some of that has been lost and it’s very hard to recreate it. Problem is City are so good at sustaining their success.

17th August 2022 at 12:12 am #197741I’ve said for a while now that I really admire what Klopp has done at Liverpool. He is the king of getting every single ounce of ability and workrate out of every player. Pretty much every player he has touched has exceeded their actual potential in my view (a few exceptions maybe). However, I’ve also long held the view that this tactic is not sustainable over a long period (ie: creating a dynasty a la Ferguson). It’s akin to revving an engine to the red all the time, it may win you a few races, however the long term health of it is perilous. The amount of work expected from his midfield is crazy in my view. I have been shocked that his midfield has operated at such a high work rate for so long

Clearly on a windup but there are certainly whispers that the Glazers are starring to consider a sale. Fingers crossed ๐ค

17th August 2022 at 6:11 am #197743Not sure who else watched Sky sports with an angry Nigel Pearson saying he had enough of the terrible refs we have now, it’s the worst ever and is a cause of coaches and managers losing their jobs while they simply get away with it game after game. Can’t believe his going to get away with such strong statements.

17th August 2022 at 8:21 am #197744Brian…Albert Stubbins was English, not American, I’m fairly sure. He really became famous playing for Liverpool rather than Newcastle though he did play a few games for them before the War.
He was also famous for being depicted on the cover of the Beatles Sgt Pepper album!!_____________________________

17th August 2022 at 8:54 am #197746Andersen speaks to police after death threats:
After an altercation with Nunez, which led to the Liverpool striker being sent off on his Anfield debut, Crystal Palace defender Andersen has been subject to a torrent of online abuse in the aftermath.
The Denmark defender posted several examples of the abuse he has received, including death threats, to his Instagram story on Tuesday, and according to various reports, he has now chosen to speak to the police.
The PA news agency claim Andersen has chosen to engage Palaceโs police liaison officer and the Premier League, who have a team set up to investigate the abuse.
โGot maybe 300-400 of these messages last night,โ Andersen said on Instagram.
โI understand you support a team but have some respect and stop act tough online.”
Unfortunately we’ve all got our idiots!

17th August 2022 at 9:19 am #197748Ed,not buying 5ft 9 inches Centre Backs to play in a very physical PL could be just as important as new owners a lot of United’s problems are down to poor purchasing over many years.

17th August 2022 at 9:42 am #197753Utd have bought plenty of good players but they just havenโt performed
Sancho has been absolutely terrible but thereโs a really good player in there.
Everything they touch goes wrong. Reminds me so much of Liverpool before Klopp came. Decades of bad decisions from top to bottom
I see the rabiot deal is off now and thatโs a good thing as he was looking for silly money
Absolutely nothing has changed since ten hagg came in. Absolute shambles from the top. No plan for buying players from the recruitment team.
Ten hagg canโt be judged for at least 4 windows. He needs to build his own teams

17th August 2022 at 9:43 am #197754The problem is not money though, the problem is strategy. Utd have bought poorly because of a lack of strategy. Look at now for example. Ten Hag comes in and is being prevented from getting rid of Ronaldo because of his commercial value, a decision made by Joel Glazer. So Ten Hag will probably become another fall guy and people will point to the fact he’s spent money and had a good squad to choose from, which is true, but that completely misses the point about the lack of any forward thinking. It all comes down to ambition. The Glazers have always spent for fear of missing CL money. They have zero interest in making Utd a winning outfit.
