Managers still try to get influence wherever they can.
Mourinho has admitted that he sees the pre match press conference as the beginning of the match.
Klopp I suspect purposefully talked up United’s recent penalties ahead of the Anfield clash subsequently aided and abetted by Carragher. The friendly former Club pundits are a new extension to it all.
I can’t believe Rashford admitted Mourinho’s guidance on ensuring United got penalties that could potentially against United going forwards.
Managers and indeed players will push the boundaries as far they can to try and achieve the right results.

18th January 2021 at 2:59 pm #173987I never understood why anybody would worry about Ferguson (unless they were a total sycophant) He was put in his place by the owners of Rock of Gibraltar and indeed the noisy neighbours. I often think this influence was overplayed unless United hadn’t scored in which case there had to be at least 8 extra minutes.
I think the refs played to the Old Trafford crowd more than anything else._____________________________

18th January 2021 at 3:34 pm #173991AnonymousIf you subtract all the intimidation and general unfairness and all that goes with that through those specific years you could probably subtract half those titles, even my united mates admit it and simply laugh if as if it’s something to be proud off.

18th January 2021 at 3:39 pm #173993Come on now, everyone. This is the matchday thread. By all means, set up a Ferguson/Utd thread and have your say but let’s keep this on-topic. I’ve been as guilty as anyone but let’s move on now, at least in this thread

18th January 2021 at 4:39 pm #173995Spot on Ed. Last word from me on this clearly you never saw the great United teams Fergie built through those years Moos.
As the Ed said Moos this is a match day thread why come and attack Ferguson on it over 7 years after he retired!

18th January 2021 at 6:11 pm #174001Nil-At a time when the worlds economy is as good as shut, hundreds of millions of people are fearing for their lobs/livelihoods,where thousands are dying from the virus on daily basis, you are depressed about a football game? Bloody hell, mate, try and relax, life is too short. If City walks the league,so what?I means hey were/are the best team in the country, like Liverpool last season.

18th January 2021 at 6:29 pm #174002One positive each day is the banter on a forum like this.
Wouldn’t it be boring if we all agreed, highly rational and unbiased. Of course you all know I am the least biased…but its footy, its tribal I can’t see too much beyond light blue.
But today I have helped two people struggling with over Β£10,000 debts which they can’t clear but I have solved it so they can make a fresh start. One was a bit ify though…a United supporter but still managed to help them.Tonight? 3-0 Arsenal. Newcastle are really poor.

18th January 2021 at 6:33 pm #174003Former Swansea City and Manchester City striker Wilfried Bony says he is willing to play anywhere in the world as he prepares to sign for a new club.
The Ivory Coast international is training with League Two Newport County after a spell in Saudi Arabia.
Bony, 32, would relish another opportunity in English football but is considering all options.
“My agent and staff, they are talking with Turkish sides, Chinese sides, Korean sides, in Russia also,” he said.
“But I leave that to them. I just focus on my training, to get fit and get ready for when the moment comes for me to move.”
There is a good local park team!

18th January 2021 at 6:38 pm #174005Liverpool’s goalless draw with Manchester United at Anfield on Sunday recorded the biggest ever audience for an event exclusively on Sky Sports.
The Premier League clash between two of this season’s title contenders saw an average of 4.5m viewers tuning into the match, peaking at 4.8m in the final five minutes.
That figure surpassed the 4.049m in April 2012 for Manchester City’s 1-0 win over Manchester United which took Roberto Mancini’s side a step closer to a first Premier League
Quite a surprise really. Shows you nothing else for people to do

18th January 2021 at 7:58 pm #174006Gane was built up as usual adlab and was a pretty shite game which was hardly unexpected
Interesting stat Bruno only has one goal this season againest the top 6 and that was a pen v spurs. Quite surprised with that
I was very happy with a draw yday as I really think we were there for the taking
No home crowd, no first choice centre backs and we are playing as bad as we ever have under klopp. Great time to play us

18th January 2021 at 8:08 pm #174007Mav, there is so much wrong at the minute mate abd there is no quick fix for me.
The whole front 3 are out of form. Usually itβs either one of them not playing well but now itβs the 3 of them.
Playing fabhino and Henderson in defence means we are missing them in midfield. The midfield 3 never played together yday and thisgo is no were near 100% fit. Same with shaquri. I thought utd look far more likely to score in last few minutes then us. We look tired
We are far to slow in everything we do. Trent is out of form . Robertson and fabhino have been our best players this season but Robertson has played far to much
Confidence is low but we just need to get going again. We need to freshen up the front 3 on
