How did they not score?
What a weird season. I put it down to no crowd.

21st January 2021 at 10:35 pm #174122Ed, we are not challenging mate.
Said it a few weeks ago. We are burned out. Two fantastic years at full throttle and it has caught up with us like it did with city. We deserved nothing tonight. Awful watch so devoid of ideas . Full credit to burnley. Trent and mane were awful
We need to try get some form back to stay in with a shout for top 4 and have a go at the cl
This team has been brilliant and it will bounce back but we are not challenging for the league

21st January 2021 at 10:41 pm #174123I obviously know Klopp has to rest players this season. But would it have not been better to play Salah & Firmino from the off, and then take them off later rather than the other way around? Our plan B players like Origi have very rarely delivered when starting games – they are better impact players. In fact, going back even to the Benitez era when he used to rest first team players from the start and then bring them on later – it rarely worked and the pressure just mounts and mounts. It was too little too late. But we undoubtedly need better plan B players. At Utd under Fergie their fringe players like Javier Hernandez still delivered in these kinds of games. Ours…don’t.

22nd January 2021 at 8:00 am #174125No, I’d say the same in your position Sean but it’s been such a strange season that it’s hard to rule anything out.
If I was a Liverpool fan, I’d be slightly concerned about the way Klopp’s Dortmund collapsed in his final season there. Does the level of intensity his teams reach (in winning trophies) make a subsequent collapse inevitable? I have no doubt he’ll turn it around but it’d be a slight concern to me, that.

22nd January 2021 at 8:38 am #174126Liverpool haven’t become a poor team overnight and Jota will come back soon which will add a bigger goals threat but so many players are off form and low in confidence and that’s a difficult thing to turn around quickly as Chelsea are finding.
Winning at OT on Sunday would be a significant confidence booster though which they could build on albeit that on current form that looks unlikely, this is a massive massive game for Liverpool now as a defeat would add to their lack of confidence.
One of the problems is that many of the players have been going full pelt for 3 years and are looking jaded whilst also lacking in confidence.
Big challenge for Klopp this one probably the biggest challenge of his tenure at Liverpool but you wouldn’t bet against him turning it around whether that will be enough to win the title this season is open to conjecture.

22nd January 2021 at 9:13 am #174127Ed Iโm not concerned mate. Look at city last year. Totally write off after one bad season after two seasons with 198 points. You canโt keep that level up. City regressed last season.9 league losses and everyone was writing pep off.
If itโs still happening this time next deal, ye itโs a concern mate.
We are on the worst run in his reign. We need to be patient. No point going overboard and blaming everyone. I always think were we were ten years ago. Some Liverpool fans writing thisgo off already ffs. Some fans moaning about klopp etc. Thatโs not supporting the club . Bad run. It happens. Get behind the team and manager
Get a win from somewhere.get some form bsck and priorityโs should be top 4 and the cl. Forget challenging for the league

22nd January 2021 at 9:14 am #174128Totally agree nine. You can see as a chelsea fan mate. You are grounded. Your not flying off the handle like some Chelsea fans
Our fans need to relax. We have never had it so good in years. Itโs a bizarre time so just get behind the team

22nd January 2021 at 10:28 am #174129Good to see you being so rational Sean
As you say you canโt win at full throttle in so many competitions and not get tired then we have a surreal season no fans packed scheduleMany pool fans said they would be happy just to win the pl and get the monkey off your backs and be happy but of course it doesnโt happen we get used to success and want more
Really is anyone seasons still
Crazy season abs goals have dropped off which is a shame

10 years ago we were badly in the shit. Just keep going and hopefully get top 4 and give the cl a go
Just takes one win or a goal in off the arse to get us going again chum

22nd January 2021 at 12:50 pm #174133So where’s it all gone wrong? I really think our challenge to retain our title went off the rails the day at Goodison back in October when Pickford, Richarlison and the referee (and VAR) conspired to prevent us taking 3 points. And obviously not just the points, but putting VVD out for most of the season and Thiago out for nearly 3 months. I know we’ve had a couple of good results since then but we lost a lot of momentum and our best defender. Losing Virgil has had impacts throughout the team, not just defensively. His loss has greatly impacted the ability and confidence of the full backs to bomb forward effectively, and frankly, if you stop Trent and Robbo, you put a whole big dent in the team’s attacking prowess.
Trent particularly is looking totally lost out there, and if he is lost then his ability to assist Mo, Sadio and Bobby is lost also. He needs a couple of weeks out of the team undoubtedly.
Top 4 has to be our aim now though I’m not completely writing off the league just yet. But we have a nightmare set of fixtures over the next month so I’m lowering my expectations. Top 4 and make a fist of the FA Cup and CL will satisfy me. Difficult but not impossible! But Jurgen has his work cut out to change things.

22nd January 2021 at 12:54 pm #174135And please….Divvy scoring goals in the CL semi and final should have been his final acts as a Liverpool player. Dont want to see him again in a red shirt. Use Minamino a bit more till Jota is fit.

22nd January 2021 at 1:18 pm #174136The Henderson offside goal v Everton was a difficult one to take as it rounded it off a very bad day
Vvd out upsets so many things but jurgen is making some bizarre decisions now
We will get better but not in time for a title challenge.
Get the form bsck, get top 4 and regroup in the summertime hightown mate
Itโs a bad run but complete over reaction from some of our fans.
Last 3 years was unsustainable and it was going to catch up with us and that time is now

22nd January 2021 at 1:31 pm #174137Managers have life cycles at teams, Joseโs is 3 to 4 seasons, Kloppโs seems to be 7, with seasons 4 and 5 being the peak. Itโs a by product of their style, you can only read the same motivational speech so many times before it loses it effectiveness. Still on the bright side, itโs a nice platform for Steveie G to return to…..Pagan

22nd January 2021 at 1:31 pm #174138Hightown, I personally think Liverpool were looking just as shaky before that game. Leeds almost caused an upset there in the first game putting three past you with the defence looking shaky. Then, there was the Villa debacle which was pretty much the strongest team Liverpool could put out if I remember.
I felt mistakes had started to creep into VVD’s game where he almost started to believe his own hype. There was some stat going around about how he’d made the most errors (that led to goals) of all the defenders in the league at one point earlier in the season.
I think Liverpool are suffering a bit of a hangover from such an intense season and one that they’d been waiting for for so long.

22nd January 2021 at 1:55 pm #174139Ed – we were missing Mane and more importantly Allison against Villa, but I take your point. The Villa game was 2 weeks before the Everton game, but I still feel that the kick in the b*****x (or the knee) that we got at Goodison derailed us more. We played well against Everton, and if we’d come through that with 3 points and VVD still fit, things may have been different. It’s all ifs and buts, of course, and it doesn’t alter the fact that we are in a trough right now, and it’s going to be difficult to get out of it in the next week or two.
Pagan – it’s interesting what you say about Klopp, and you may very well be right. I do think that he doesn’t look like he’s enjoying the job very much at the moment. I think he’s missing the crowd as much as the crowd is missing him. And somewhat controversially, I’m going to say that the team are missing their crowd more than most other teams. I expect that comment to raise a few shackles amongst other fans, but I firmly believe that to be true. As a match going fan for 50 years now, apart from the last 11 months, I think the connect between this team and it’s fans is greater than any I’ve known. It’s something I don’t expect many to agree with on here, and it is something that I cannot factually back up of course.
The bottom line is that there is something wrong at the moment, and it’s probably a combination of things all in all.

22nd January 2021 at 2:01 pm #174140Villa was a freak result like utds gane st spurs and city and Leicester Ed.
But agreed, he didnโt start the season well. Itโs not him just missing from centre back. Itโs having to play fabhino there who we miss in midfield. Itโs playing Henderson in there who we miss from midfield.
He organized the high line to in open play and set plays.
His long diagonal balls are sorely missed. His presence on the opposition box for set plays. We are terrible at attacking set plays now
Him missing has affected us all over the pitch. A huge leader on the pitch. Still, itโs one player and itโs creating and scoring now which is our problem. Totally agree that we are burned out now. Last few season is catching up with us now.Far to many players out of form all at once mate but vvd is an absolutely massive loss
