8th December 2021 at 5:37 pm #190861AnonymousEd, Ancelotti came and went the second Real came back in for him. That’s what he does and you have to admit, that Everton really pulled above their station that time.
Rafa terrible at Newcastle? I don’t really agree. He didn’t have much to work with and got them promoted back into and kept them in the PL. That was really all you could have hoped for that Newcastle side and he did it. Was it pretty? No but it was a tough job and the fact that Bruce also managed it after him, doesn’t mean it wasn’t more difficult in the previous seasons. Bruce did afterall get to spend money. Rafa left because he had better ideas of where to use that money and looking at his signings at Everton so far, he’s doing alright there.
Although, it does seem the game has moved on a bit from the Rafa and Jose days, I’m still not convinced that it’s totally over for him. He needs time at a club that actually backs him. He didnt have that at Newcastle. He then went off and took a job in china.. He kinda derailed himself with the passion project followed by the money ticket.

8th December 2021 at 5:47 pm #190862Everton or Real Madrid hmh tough choice.😊
As others have indicated it’s the perfect storm at Everton poor squad, overspend on transfers has run them into FFP problems meaning they can’t buy and then if you add a Manager who is probably now past his sell by date who the Everton fans despise and didn’t want even before his appointment and there’s a mountain to climb.

8th December 2021 at 8:49 pm #190880AnonymousNine, it makes what the Everton chairman said, all so much funnier. Especially considering that he was likely told this ironically and didnt realise it.
I still have faith in Rafa though. I think he needs a stable job where he can spend money in the way he wants though. Im not sure he can succeed without this.

8th December 2021 at 9:00 pm #190881I can’t see Rafa succeeding at Everton Mak they’ve got no funds now without they sell their best players? And the Everton fans despise Rafa not only because he was Manager of Liverpool but because he called Everton a small Club that’s toxic.
“Be nice to people on your way up because you’ll meet them on your way down.” 😊

8th December 2021 at 9:51 pm #190882AnonymousNine, whilst I don’t entirely disagree with you, you’re carrying a bit of the symptoms of Rafa’s reign with your words. That is not meant in a negative way, just I think it’s natural and comes across a bit.
I also dont think Rafa can now succeed at Everton. I did when he first joined but the downturn in form (Arsenal result aside) looks to be inescapable , mostly because of the immediate fixtures.
Rafa called Everton a small club when there was a bit of stick going his way from them, in fairness. Rafa isnt randomly toxic. If anyone here can point out a time when he was, by all means do. I include his “rant” about Utd, which many Liverpool fans didnt agree with but I had no issue with it. He calmly read a statement out, that wasnt a rant. His calling Everton a small club was true.
Rafa’s “way down” is his own choosing. He wants to remain in the city and he likes to take difficult projects. That doesnt go against him but for him, in my view. I am biased towards him, when yourself and others are biased against him. Somewhere in the middle, is a variation of truth.
I will be sad when Rafa gets fired in the next few weeks. I never wanted him to be fired at LFC in the first place but only went with it in the end when it was absolutely clear that his position was untenable. Rafa isnt a personable guy, as many of the ex players have said but they’ve also labelled him as the best manager, tactically that they ever worked under.
I will hope on that he can survive until the summer. I doubt he will but if he does, he might be able to work some magic and the guy is brilliant at getting bargain players in who can punch above their weight, in the team of his choosing.
Rafa is and always has been a MASSIVE investment. I dont mean in terms of money but more time and also roles. He wants more control over transfers than most top clubs will give. He also needs 3-5 years. He won the CL with us int he first season but it wasnt until much later on that we were actually a properly good football team. We won the Cl out of his strengths in KO tactics and Gerrards insane abilities.

9th December 2021 at 7:49 am #190884Mak, no Manager will be able to create success for a Club if the majority of the fans don’t want him there.
It was a significant mistake by the owners to appoint Rafa given the depth of feeling against him from the fans they will either have to live with that or do something about it ultimately I think it will be the latter.
Unfortunately Rafa has a habit of putting his foot in it it’s what he did with Chelsea too although I supported both his appointment at Chelsea and through his tenure at Chelsea as imo he was the best available Manager at the time and I think he did a decent job in his time there too but it was never going to last the Chelsea fans like the Everton fans didn’t want him.
Been done to death now though mate what will be will be time to move on.
