Sean, he had a brilliant record against the top sides last season. I’ve no complaints there. Double over Chelsea and City last season. In the top 6 head to head league, only Liverpool were ahead of Utd and not by much (19/20). This season not as good but I felt we deserved more against Chelsea and the Spurs game was ruined by the red card. The Arsenal game was a strange one, too. Same with City game. No excuses there but we could have easily walked away with all 3. We certainly weren’t outplayed.
So I have no concerns at all about us in the big games. It’s the home games against the Palace, Newcastle, Burnley that cause us problems. We have no idea what to do when teams don’t come at us.

21st December 2020 at 11:13 am #172615If it was Ferguson now in charge he would be getting untold praise for improving the team, unfortunately for Ole most United supporters have already made up their minds about him and it’s going to take a massive achievement of some sorts to change their minds like winning the EPL.

21st December 2020 at 11:42 am #172617That’s just not the case Blaze. No way would Ferguson have been given untold praise for doing what Ole has done. Yes, we were very good yesterday but we had our worst start for 48 years, not winning a single one of our first 4 home games. We also collapsed in the CL despite looking certainties to progress.
None of that is good enough for the amount of money we’ve spent. Ferguson would never have been praised for being 3rd.
When you say it will take a big achievement to change our minds, that’s something I agree with though. We have no reason to believe he will be a success based on his past managerial career, so only a trophy will change that perception. Goes without saying. Would be delighted to be proved wrong about him.

21st December 2020 at 12:15 pm #172618AnonymousEd, if you remember, I was as bemused as you were when they gave Ole a proper contract. The timing of it was still wrong if you ask me and all points granted there regards going out of the Cl and also the lack of any kind of performance against City.
The thing is though, regardless of a lot of valid criticisms, I was just shocked to realise how potentially close Utd are to the top of the table. I still don’t know how that snuck up on me but the fact is that utd are where they are. Lets see at the end of the season as you say. There’s a lot of work to do in them finding their identity under Ole and then after that, consistency.
Its amazing that you didnt win a single game from your opening 4 but are here. how?!

21st December 2020 at 1:08 pm #172620Opening 4 home games Mak. For away games, we’re actually close to equaling an all time PL record for consecutive away wins. We’re on 10. The record is 11. Only City and Chelsea have even got to 10 before, never mind 11. So, that would help explain how we’re still up there. No chance of us breaking it, though. Equaling it would mean winning away at Leicester. Not out of the question, sure. But beating the record would require us to win at Anfield 😁

21st December 2020 at 1:26 pm #172622At this stage last season, after 14 games Liverpool were on 40 points (9 points more than they are now). Man Utd were on 17 points after 13 games (9 points less than what they are now).
So what you have is a double effect of Liverpool dropping 9 points & Man Utd gaining 9 points from last season, so far.

21st December 2020 at 2:28 pm #172623Reason United and other teams are down and up again is because everyone is dropping points on a regular basis maybe not Liverpool anymore but everyone else, probably due to all the weird stuff that’s happening in 2020 the trend continues just about in every walk of life.

21st December 2020 at 5:20 pm #172627Sean, that’s why I don’t get carried away by a few decent but dull performances.
Jose has to take some blame bringing Bale on at h/t and taking N’Dombele off stupid decision, and then Lo Celso get’s an injury so no creators on the pitch and we could still be trying to score this evening.
Aurier reverted to type after a few very good weeks and not much I can say about the own goal apart from if we spent more time in the opposition half these mistakes would not happen so much !!!!!_____________________________

21st December 2020 at 5:27 pm #172629What is Arteta going on about here?! 😅 I genuinely feel sorry for the Arsenal fans at the moment. The sooner you get rid of Arteta and get a proper manager in the better.
Mikel Arteta: "Last year we won against Everton with a 25% chance of winning, you win 3-2. Last weekend, it was a 67% chance of winning, any Premier League game in history, and a 9% chance of losing, and you lose. 3% against Burnley and you lose, 7% against Spurs, and you lose." pic.twitter.com/NgrAj7FvAk

21st December 2020 at 9:17 pm #172634Timo Werner is having a shocker tonight. He needs to start finding some form soon. Really like the look of Bowen at West Ham. Always making things happen.

21st December 2020 at 9:59 pm #172635Chelsea back to winning ways and it tightens those positions below Liverpool. Hard to see anyone giving Liverpool any real competition this season, though.

21st December 2020 at 10:26 pm #172636Chelsea were really poor tonight losing both full backs and no Ziyech didn’t help but we’ll be lucky to get a EL place playing like that.

22nd December 2020 at 8:22 am #172647Strange coincidence…both Liverpool and United concede 7 and 6 on the same weekend back in October and score 7 and 6 respectively on the same weekend in December!
