19th December 2020 at 4:54 pm #172462Good win for City in a very difficult game at Southampton. Aguero fit is a necessity if they made going to challenge for the PL imo.

19th December 2020 at 6:29 pm #172466Why on earth was Pepe marking Pepe at the corner Everton took the lead at complete mis match and presumably down to Arteta? And it followed a brilliant save from Leno too.
Calvert Lewin is a beast of a Centre forward Chelsea couldn’t deal with him and neither could Arsenal and ultimately I suspect a few others too.

19th December 2020 at 7:36 pm #172468Ancelotti was available when Arsenal were looking for a manager, but appointed Arteta instead. I think they tried to be too clever in appointing him, thinking they were unearthing a future gem.

19th December 2020 at 8:03 pm #172471The problems at Arsenal have been around for a while and date all the way back to the last few years of Wenger’s reign. Arsenal need investment whoever the Manager is and Kroenke doesn’t seem keen on doing that.

19th December 2020 at 8:44 pm #172474That’s exactly it Mikus. It was a huge gamble to give Arteta his first job in management at that level and it’s looking like it has taken them back years. Very hard to see him saving his job there now.

19th December 2020 at 8:53 pm #172475Perhaps that’s why they appointed him Nine, thinking he wouldn’t demand a big budget and get the best out of what he has. Not working though is it. But he’s still out of his depth either way. I just don’t know what the strategy is at Arsenal. Kind of reminds of when Liverpool appointed Hodgson when they looked pretty rudderless. Arsenal need a breath of fresh air. They ain’t going to get that from Arteta.

19th December 2020 at 9:38 pm #172476AnonymousThink Arsenal should keep Arteta for the Championship next season… Frankly, Im loving it. Wenger was a genius to keep that club where it was. Arsenal used to date porno, now they just rent, supporters wondering where the good times went. F-ing loving it and might do a double on Arsenal Leeds with WBA to be relegated. Sorry Stevo.

19th December 2020 at 9:42 pm #172477AnonymousDid the players take the knee to support the American Pressure group and its politics of using non lethal force on African American’s during police stops in the United States again? A bit twee when they could simply kneel while wearing a kick it out campaign shirt…

20th December 2020 at 1:51 am #172478AnonymousGuys, before we judge Arsenal in hindsight, Chelsea did the same with Lampard. I didnt really agree with either because of the risk, however Chelsea had a transfer ban that would turn off most, so it made sense at the time.
Of course some players are just born to manage and we couldnt know which or even if either are up to it longterm.
Compared to an available Ancelotti though, they did take a risk. Could he have come in and inspired Ozil into being that creativity that they need? We xant know what is going on behind the scenes but he seems to just have shunned him instantly.
There are players to inspire and there re players to remove, Arteta has done neither and I feel it will cost him his job.
Klopp had his issues with Sakho amd next window, he was gone.
Ole and Arteta dont seem to be up to this kind of thing yet but its still early enough in their careers.

20th December 2020 at 1:59 am #172479AnonymousI didnt see the game Mav but you know that is not really how it works. I didnt really mean “utd will probably beat us” but I am saying that they have a better chance of beating us that almost every other team in the league. Well that is my opinion. I wont go into this match afraid for my life but the nature of a derby is just different.
Also, the fact that Utd are actually doing so much better than i had realised, in terms of results…
was this win against SU down to the few really top quality players you have, or was it about the way Utd play?> i bet it was the first 1 and I haven’t seen who scored yet.

20th December 2020 at 5:11 am #172481AnonymousArsenal seem to have more than a few chances without converting so they can’t be that bad, every top team goes through a bad run but it’s not going to save Artetas job, likewise Lampard if he does nor get favorable results in the next few games he could also be in big trouble. Hope not as he is a legend but we dropped 10 points already against teams we expected to beat and maybe more coming up.

20th December 2020 at 7:07 am #172482Mak, it’s not really the same as the Lampard situation though. Granted, I thought that was risky too, at the time and, in fairness, Lampard has it all to prove still.
The huge difference though is that Lampard had some experience (albeit not a lot) of being a manager. Arsenal gave Arteta his first job, which is just madness. Even Pep had managed a B team, at least, at Barcelona. Being an assistant is a completely different job, as we’ve seen when so many good assistants get big jobs and fail to make the same impact as the number 1 man.

20th December 2020 at 8:55 am #172488My point really was that it doesn’t really matter who is managing Arsenal they’ve been fading ever since Kroenke took over and Wenger in his last years Emery and now Arteta have all failed to steady the ship. Rich owners can’t just buy a Club as an investment and then not be prepared to invest in their investment over a very long period of time and then there was the Stadium and poor selection of new players too.
I agree with the Ed both Lampard and Arteta were very risky appointments given their lack of experience as was Ole too although in fairness he was given a Caretaker role and would have gone had it not been for that successful run of games that led to United giving him the permanent role.
Doesn’t matter whether you are an ex player a legend of a previously successful Manager if you don’t get results you’ll get the sack in the end.
Arsenal have Chelsea up next in the PL on Boxing Day. Watch them turn it around!😊

20th December 2020 at 9:16 am #172489For me a manager not being supported is the likes of Steve Bruce
Arteta has had money to spend. Not much but he has still had money. Partey 45m etc. Arsenal paid 72m for Pepe.55 Aubameyang in recent years.
It’s like people saying ole hasn’t been supported when he has 200m net spend.
Money is being spent but some players are not working out
It can’t always be about money. Show you can coach. Arsenal are abysmal to watch. Score a goal and park the bus. Playing Aubameyang out left. Chipping and changing the front 3 constantly. He’s brought in about 3 centre backs and they are all terrible. Willian has been shocking
Arsenal are terrible going forward
I’d rate frank Miles ahead of him. He has game plans which change from game to game. Chelsea play some fantastic attacking football at times. Watching Arsenal is just terrible

20th December 2020 at 9:18 am #172491Completely agree Nine. As you say, Utd appointed Ole as a caretaker and had absolutely no intention of giving him the permanent job but he made it very difficult for them not to, rightly or wrongly. Slightly different scenario but one I still think United will live to regret nonetheless.
