For it to be self pity or moaning though assumes that one believes one is entitled to more. There is none of that.
You can disagree with the assessment that “chelsea need to be better in final third to win the league” but that doesn’t mean it was not an assessment, just means you have a different assessment.

30th November 2021 at 2:00 pm #190242You know all this is bonkers when Nil is handing out advice about how to handle disappointments in football.π
Everyone is still missing the point the frustration wasn’t about the United game it was about the number of chances Chelsea missed v Burnley and v United whilst completely dominating both games which led to the dropping of 4 points which shouldn’t have been dropped in the belief that both City and Liverpool wouldn’t have dropped those points in similar circumstances.
This wasting of chances dates back to last season and beyond where Chelsea’s top scorer last season for goodness sake was Jorginho with 7 goals all from the penalty spot.
Lukaku was bought to help solve that problem and once he gets fit again and is firing on all cylinders he still might.

30th November 2021 at 3:05 pm #190253In fairness Nine, all 3 have been dropping silly points in games they should have been winning. Chelsea are far from alone there. City losing to Palace and dropping points at home to Southampton. Liverpool the same. Not one of the three is as strong or consistent (so far) as the City or Liverpool teams from a couple of seasons ago. If we’re going by individual (head to head) games, City are the clear favourites as they completely dominated Chelsea at their own ground and would have won at Liverpool had they (Liverpool) got the red card they deserved yet they still sit below Chelsea in the league.
Chelsea, if any team, are suffering the fewest slip-ups evidenced by the fact they sit top of the tree. For all the Burnley and Utd game frustrations, there are games like Villa at home where Chelsea were probably quite fortunate to come out with a 3-0 win in a game which Villa were the better side. Swings and roundabouts.

30th November 2021 at 3:10 pm #190254Obviously Lewandowski won’t have much to show on the international front but he’s been far superior than Messi for a couple of seasons. Scores more# involved more, works for the team more and wins his domestic league more. Messi shouldn’t even be in the top 10 he spends most of the time sulking, standing with his hands on his hips or insulting everyone when things don’t go his way. Does nothing for the team when under the cosh.

Those silly awards should be scrapped anyway.

30th November 2021 at 3:17 pm #190256All true Ed but it doesn’t change the fact that Chelsea haven’t had a consistent goal scorer since Diego Costa 52 goals in 89 appearances Lukaku is hopefully that player.
I still don’t think either City or Liverpool would have dropped points in similar circumstances v Burnley and United.
It’s been done to death now though.
The lesson perhaps is for Chelsea posters not to discuss their concerns re Chelsea on the General site on here but save them for the Chelsea TT site.

Well, no, maybe not. But, Chelsea didn’t lose at home to Palace did they? City did. Chelsea probably wouldn’t draw at home to Brighton like Liverpool did, either…
As for having a consistent goalscorer, I think Chelsea look a better side without Lukaku if I’m honest. This season, Chelsea scored 1.7 goals per game WITH Lukaku and 2.7 without him. So, I’d argue that’s a moot point. City don’t have a consistent goalscorer either yet they destroyed PSG who have probably the best front 3 in world football. I think we’re moving away from reliance on traditional goalscorers.

More than welcome to discuss on here. I think it’s what makes this site what it is.

30th November 2021 at 3:36 pm #190259Fair enough. I’ll exclude Norwich. It’s 2.1 without Lukaku vs 1.7 with him. Still doesn’t scream “Chelsea are a more effective side with a consistent goalscorer” (which Lukaku undoubtedly is)

30th November 2021 at 3:43 pm #190260Lukaku’s missed a lot of games Ed and still isn’t fit enough to start he was bought as the answer to Chelsea’s goal scoring problems.
Is he or isn’t he? We’ll have to wait and see when he’s fully fit and had a run of games.

30th November 2021 at 3:55 pm #190262Lewandowski in 2021
64 goals, 10 assists. Won Bundesliga, Club World Cup & DFL-Supercup.
Messi in 2021
41Β goals, 17Β assists. Won Copa America & Copa del Rey.
Fantastic year for two fantastic players, tight call but I side with lewandowski based on stats alone, but they dont tell whole story

30th November 2021 at 4:00 pm #190263Nor am I Lucky. It’s one thing having no out and out striker and saying “look how many chances we created and we didn’t even have a striker. Imagine if we had a striker to finish those chances”. But that completely ignores the fact that the amount of chances created was probably a result of having an extra creative body on the park, which you obviously would no longer have once you bring a proper striker in. It’s always a game of optimisation. Your conversion rate likely goes up by having a better goalscorer on the pitch but you likely don’t create as many chances due to the reduction of creative players. Hence the popularisation of the false nine.
