28th November 2020 at 11:51 pm #171108It really is like a breath of fresh air going to watch a non-league game – no diving, no feigning injury, no play acting, no little skill, only about a tenner to get in and above all, NO VAR.
It would be interesting to hear if any others on here go and watch lower league or non-league football._____________________________

29th November 2020 at 1:00 am #171110AnonymousSean, i said it recently, I don’t like how Klopp deals with the press. He takes the most negative meaning from questions all the time and answers in a hostile manner.
I will say that from a personal perspective, I totally get it and were it myself I’d give more hostile answers sometimes but given that we know he’s extremely gifted in communication, he really doesn’t need to do this. I think he’s right to dislike the media but he just lets it show too much.
You might ask what someone as accomplished could possibly learn, id say this is one thing. I dont have a big problem with his kinda sarcastic interview today as he didnt have a tone. Im usually not a fan of this style of communication in real life but here it had a purpose, he knew he would be demonized for the answers they are trying to set him up to have and with normal people, we don’t get this is real life.
it didnt come off as petulance, like Jose anyway, I was absolutely livid about that penalty at the end. I wouldnt have had enough time to cool off before that talk. They’d have got it both barrels.

29th November 2020 at 1:07 am #171111Anonymousand ya Adlab, no team has worse injuries than us right now. It isnt just about the number of injuries, the key players and the fact that they are largely centered around the defensive side of things… Im not saying other teams are struggling, cause otherwise we wouldnt see so many coming around to the idea of 5 subs.
Liverpool right now have 2 players in our back 4 who are Championship level players. I’ve never seen City have to go that far with things.

29th November 2020 at 6:47 am #171115AnonymousSorry but in all honesty that Brighton penalty equalizer was a 100% penalty, I can’t understand anyone saying it wasn’t. If anything would rather be upset over Salahs disallowed goal, for me offside should only be given if the feet are offside not any other part of the body especially when it’s so minute.

29th November 2020 at 8:28 am #171116Sean, the lines are drawn perpendicular to the touch lines by computer, the VAR operator will pinpoint the point on the body closest to the goal when he thinks the ball is played forwards and technology will do the rest.
My problem with all of this is it was asked for to sort out the howlers, it was sold to everyone as such and now it’s being used forensically in order to justify itself as we’ve now proved that the actual officials were that bad after all.
Another anomaly is the fact that European games don’t seem to have the same issues the Premier league has, they seem to have a quick look and if they can’t see anything clear and obvious first look then play goes on, the Premier League seem to want to micro analyse it, whether that’s driven by our broadcasters who have always tried to find fault with officials I don’t know as I’ve never really watched broadcasts from overseas TV.
VAR is not mandated by IFAB, it’s a system that’s approved by them to use if a league so wishes, the Premier League chose to use it and at the end of the season could choose not to for next season……Pagan

29th November 2020 at 8:47 am #171118Liverpool do have a lot of injuries currently the injuries to Van Dijk and Gomez are the most injuries serious ones because they will probably miss the whole season and their loss is even more damaging because Liverpool sold Lovren and didn’t replace him and went into the season with three recognised Centre Backs in the squad one of which in Matip has been highly injury prone as to a certain extent has been Gomez.
The other injuries are short term injuries and those players will be back shortly.
City suffered similarly last season with injuries to key players like Laporte which was worsened by the loss of Kompany.
Unfortunately injuries are part and parcel of the game. Hopefully both Van Dijk and Gomez recover without any complications.

29th November 2020 at 8:55 am #171120Pagan, yes you’re right Conor Gallagher returning to Chelsea and being successful is a difficult one to predict it would be Frank’s call though like Mount I would like him to be given the chance.
Re Harry Wilson I must admit I expected Frank to make a move for him given their previous and especially as he’s seemingly available for a fairly low fee I guess the fact that Chelsea are strong in the wide areas might have had something to do with it if it doesn’t happen and Wilson needs regular game time now which might be a struggle for him currently at Chelsea.

29th November 2020 at 9:24 am #171122Sean, I’ve just watched MOTD, that shows exactly how the lines are put on, it’s almost like a cross hair put onto the body point nearest the goal when they judge the ball is played forward.
For me all 3 contentious decisions by the letter of the law were eventually given correctly by the evidence presented by VAR, however in real time, with match officials making the decisions they could have gone either way and I’d be happy with whatever they’d given. Theres absolutely no way in real time the assistant referee could have been 100% sure the Liverpool players were offside or not in either chalked off goal so he’d have to let them stand. The penalty, the ref in real time didn’t give and I think that what happened is all part of the game, if he had of given it we’d be saying that’s a bit harsh but we’ve seen them given before.
The only way to explain how VAR is being used is to imagine there’s a really nerdy, pedantic person, who’s never seen the game played sat in a room with a copy of the laws of the game making decisions on single frame of the action……Pagan
I think we’re getting to the stage where we get rid of the Assistant Referees and just have line judges to see if the ball remains in play as it seems that’s really the only decision they’re now allowed to make……Pagan

29th November 2020 at 9:27 am #171123Morning all. Hope everybody is well.
If we look back the posts from yesterday its all about VAR and not about the football. I was listening to the radio this morning and one comment on VAR said it “has taken the soul out of the game”…Couldnt agree more._____________________________

29th November 2020 at 9:36 am #171124Pagan thanks mate. It’s a good summary of var but my issue it can still be called wrong . Totally agree about the European leagues. It’s a very quick call abd they don’t spend 4 minutes analysing a decision. Also they don’t seem to be looking at every single decision
Nine, our injuries are shocking at the minute. Thisgo will have missed 2 months. Fabhino a month. Taa a month. Amusing a month. Ox 3 months abd then the other two for the season
It’s worse then cities last year mate. We are now really struggling to put a team capable of winning the next two games. That’s not an excuse. I certainly don’t agree with jurgens moaning about the fixtures. It’s the same for everyone. Lovren shoujd have been replaced bigtine. Totally agree but now it’s our midfield. Winjildium be next get injured as he’s in the red zone and playing far to much
I think if we can get through our next two games againest Ajax and wolves we be fine. Players be back etc. We are having to play to many inexperienced players. That’s the reality and we need to get on with. It’s still a brilliant squad. We just need to stay up there

29th November 2020 at 9:40 am #171125Pagan, also I’ve absolutely no problem with any of the decisions yday mate. None at all. We weren’t good enough to win the game. I’ve no issue with yesterday at all
As adlab has said people are saying it’s taking the soul out of the game. It’s just not enjoyable at times but I’ve really enjoyed this season. Some cracking ganes and it’s going to be a very tight leagues but var is taking over the game
In anyway guys done very good discussions with some excellent points from everyone

29th November 2020 at 9:43 am #171126There’s some matches today which is obviously good and today’s a brand new day. Hopefully VAR doesn’t ruin those matches. It’s the anticipated uncertainty now whenever one scores a goal that’s leads to some kind of an validation and approval.
That’s not why we asked for improvements to our refereeing.

29th November 2020 at 9:53 am #171129Nil also you and mak need to not take a poor result do badly mate. It used to ruin my weekend chum. It reakky did but what’s the point? We are still in very good shape. It’s not like it was years ago. Hightown akways told me to enjoy the moment and instead of getting kissed off, I just look forward to our next game
Horrible dropping points in the last few mins but we will bounce back mate
Enjoy the ball today and it’s been great having you back
Also great to see stevo on here yday. Through these bizarre times this forum had been a great distraction at times with some many different opinions but that’s what makes it a great forum

29th November 2020 at 10:26 am #171131It’s also very annoying when nil and mak start crying cheating and match fixing and everything else
All clubs have had these var decisions and crappy playing times etc
Var is equally bad for all in its decisions but like pre var when it was just the “wanker in the black” some teams benefit more over a season ….
Another loss for us today …. lost all confidence in my team …. and Arteta if I’m honest …

29th November 2020 at 10:27 am #171132Sean, you too mate. Some good points. Yeah work is becoming pressurized at the mo with Lockdown rules changing and Christmas around the corner. Obviously really fancied us to beat Brighton. It’s the last-last-minute decision going against you. Not the first time away from home. It’s bad luck and a bitter pill we just have to swallow and cope with.
Leeds win cheered me up a little bit. The game is competitive than ever and entertaining. It’s these rules that have become a bit heavy-handed and need to be eased otherwise it’s ruining the whole enjoyment of it all.
Good matches lie ahead of us today. Have a Great Day mate 🙂

29th November 2020 at 10:54 am #171133Adlab – think you’ve hit the nail on the head – and it’s not very often you and I agree! – VAR has sucked the life out of the game. Do we really want decisions reviewed to the nth degree, with that meaning the flow of the game is taken away, the celebrations are put on hold, and above all, it doesn’t even take away the controversy out of the game? I’m more annoyed about the offside yesterday than the penalty. Pre VAR, if that pen had been given, I might have had a little moan, but accepted it as a subjective call by the on field referee. Similarly if the linesman had flagged at the time for Salah being offside, I would have had a moan, but accepted it as reasonable human error (or not), but for the decision to take 3 or 4 minutes while all the players, pundits and fans are waiting for some faceless authority to make a decision miles away from the scene, is just ridiculous.
I want to talk about football, but every weekend VAR is hijacking the agenda, and that can’t be good for the game. We all know it’s not a conspiracy, Liverpool aren’t being ‘picked on’, the problem is endemic in our game, and indeed ruining it!

29th November 2020 at 10:57 am #171134gj – glad for your 2nd team, Chorley yesterday. My 2nd team, Marine, are in a similar position today with an opportunity to reach the 3rd round for, I believe, only the second time. I used to go and watch them alot when I lived on Merseyside as a teenager, but confess I’ve not been for probably 25 years now, though I still look out for their results. Anyway, hope you’re well, and looking forward to meeting up in the New Year sometime, Covid restrictions permitting.

29th November 2020 at 11:04 am #171135SS I’m sure Arsenal at home will beat Wolves despite them being a very difficult side to defeat most of the time. Everton I thought have been very unlucky in recent games they lost including yesterday but they nice to watch.
