18th August 2021 at 7:46 pm #182964Just find arsenals signings so bizarre.
Ramsdale is not even a great keeper and they let Martinez go for 20m
Crazy crazy stuff. Odengard is average aswell.
Over 100m spent and they are no weβre near good enough to challenge for top 4.

18th August 2021 at 8:13 pm #182966Sean…that is what I find so crazy about money transfers. Arsenal, as you say spend 100 millions, now , to a team like say Burnley, Norwich, and a few others that is mega money they could never afford, yet supporters go crazy when larger amounts are spent, usually from the top 6 teams…it is all relative. In truth any supporter from any club wants its club to have an endless supply of money, no good saying it is unfair etc. (NOT YOU) it is the way the game has gone. I categorise it as
1. Those that have it spend it on what they think they want, not always a wise decision, but the choice is there’s2. Those that have it, but for reasons other than re investment in the team divert the money to other directions
3. Those that have it and still prefer to borrow
4. The have nots
There will never be a level playing field with this and ultimately it is up to the clubs to manage there own long term welfare.
I would also add to support No 1 point, My team have spent a lot, no doubt about that, affordable or not, it is what you buy and from our mythical strength in depth I would rate at least 4 would not get into a Championship team. We do not have the perceived quality in depth most think we have, we probably did when we bought them but just not worked out. I feel the same analogy about Kane, another Rodney Marsh story. OK, I am in a pessimistic mood to day, probably because I have not heard from Chuky about Spurs mighty win, maybe it is a case of we have seen it all before!!!!!!

18th August 2021 at 8:33 pm #182967Valid points Brian mate.
Itβs just money wasted though and I can see and Iβm not a football expert.
Ok every aug inf needs time but Ben white excels in a back 3 with two big centre backs.
Chucky was on alright but disappeared again. Seems he checks in but canβt stay for a debate as me and others sit on the fence.

18th August 2021 at 9:37 pm #182977Brian, top clubs tend to dominate when they bring in a top manager. Man Utd dominated under Fergie. Man City didn’t dominate the league until Guardiola came in. But he won’t be there forever. And when big managers do leave, it does create a problem in terms of a team’s identity because quite often that identity will leave the club along with the manager when he leaves. And quite often you see clubs scrambling afterwards for direction as a vacuum is left. It tends be then when clubs go on absurd spending splurges. Some clubs manage better than others, with Chelsea being the obvious example, but then they have never been able to dominate the league as they’ve never had a manager for long enough. But then, a title every 3/4 years would make most fans pretty happy and Chelsea are due a title very soon by the law of averages. But be it top managers, or top player scouts, these people won’t be there forever, and clubs will inevitably have to go through cycles.
Regarding trying to make things fairer for other, smaller clubs, it’s very difficult. I think the sport, like many things, underwent a Thatcherite revolution in the early 90s whereby it became less about a community sport, and more about a dog eat dog cutthroat capitalist business. But…with the very depressing culture we now have with many of our young caught up in deprivation, knife crime, and a complete lack of direction, I think we have to push more of these wealthy clubs to offer these kids more opportunities which would be win win for both sides. I’m not actually a socialist, but you don’t have to be one to realise the catastrophe this loss of community has been. We have to push clubs back more towards their communities, and just maybe we are starting to see more signs of this with more youngsters now coming through.
We need to see more stories like these…
"Daniel told us how important sleep is. Instead of going out to parties, have the strength to say no. Football has to come first."

19th August 2021 at 9:01 am #182989AnonymousDoes it matter how clubs are financed, of course not as long as it’s all legal. Bet if your club is winning trophies you wouldn’t complain and you wouldn’t care.

19th August 2021 at 2:01 pm #182999Agree with you on Martinez Sean I can only assume he as coming u to the end of his contract and didn’t want to stay at Arsenal as a Number 2. I’m sure Stevo can shed some ligh on it.
I’m hoping Ramsdale is below average on Sunday v Chelsea if he plays.π

19th August 2021 at 2:08 pm #183000Bayern put a Β£110m plus price tag on Lewandowski’s head. He’s 33 on Saturday and as good as he still is nobody will buy him at that price.
