Varane was quality today. Sancho still needs to settle into the side. Greenwood, what a talent. 3 in 3 now for him. McTominay a big miss. Pogba and Fred is an accident waiting to happen as a midfield pair. Pogba simply can’t play as one of the midfield 2 unless he has a top quality defensive mid next to him and Fred is not that.
Overall Utd were poor today though.

29th August 2021 at 7:02 pm #184041Amazingly, the week ended with both North London teams being on both ends of the table who would have predicted that? hopefully, that won’t be the case come May

29th August 2021 at 7:48 pm #184042AnonymousNil, in real time, I thought it was a foul, after seeing it in slow-mo and with the better angle, i think it’s fair. Not great to see players tackling with a straight leg but it’s really gone for the ball, not under or over the top etc.
Legit goal for me Nil.
Not a good win for Utd but 3 points are 3 points.

This has been discussed since about a season after he returned from Juve. Isnt it weird that they never tried to accommodate him? I mean, they invest so much in him with each contract renewal.

29th August 2021 at 8:17 pm #184047Mak, yeah, I was thinking the reverse. Though the various slow-mo angles show no contact as such made, even though Nevez made connection with the ball first, I think at best there was a slight graze.
The argument made by Souness for example was for the intent.

29th August 2021 at 8:19 pm #184048Chucks, yeah.
It’s understanding ‘the style’. Anthony Taylor gave the impression yesterday in wanting the game to be more flowing. I wonder if that’s the general consensus from the other participating Refs.

29th August 2021 at 8:25 pm #184049Souness actually said Pogba catches Neves the tackle moved Neves shin pad it was a foul Neves not going down immediately probably cost Wolves.
United got away with a win today that’s a good sign for them.

29th August 2021 at 8:38 pm #184051AnonymousI didnt notice his shin-pad moving, it looked like no contact in my viewing but fair enough. Is there any argument then for him getting the ball first? Im on the fence here now honestly. My gut tells me that its fine but there’s this other side that kinda winces when i see straight legged tackles, because they can break legs if they are done poorly.

29th August 2021 at 10:18 pm #184058Manure should have been spanked! Wolves were like that against us too. Chance after chance after chance with no end product.
I think DVB needs to get in on Fred’s protection racket and get some compromising pics of his own of Ole because I cannot for the life of me see what Ole sees in Fred. He is a terrible footballer!!!!_____________________________

30th August 2021 at 8:01 am #184063“Former Gunner Kevin Campbell has questioned why Conte would risk tarnishing his reputation by going to Arsenal.
He said on Sky Sports News: “If Mikel Arteta gets the sack, which big-name manager is going to put his reputation on the line and have no significant funds to go and change what he’s seeing?
“If you back him. Arsenal with all their players fit will be okay.
“But if I’m Antonio Conte and I’m looking at that yesterday, I wouldn’t go anywhere near it.
“Let’s be honest, I wouldn’t go anywhere near it. Because it’s the basics. They’re getting the basics wrong.
“And if you can’t do the basics as a professional footballer…
“The manager can prepare you as much as he wants for a game. Once you cross that game, it’s your job. You can’t let [Ilkay] Gundogan beat you at the back post.
“It’s not up to the manager to go and press people and stay on your feet and communicate and be hard to beat.”
Arteta delivered the FA Cup within months of being appointed and added the Community Shield shortly after that.
Ever since then though Arsenal have struggled and pressure is mounting.
The Spaniard apologised for the poor result at the Etihad and admits he asks questions of himself.
He said: βI am more critical of myself and take the blame every single time we had defeats. I question myself and I have to look at every decision I make and change it if we think we should have done something different.
βIt is time to reflect and look in the mirror, each of us, and try to change the dynamic straight away because we need to pick up results. A lot has happened in the last three weeks and we are in a difficult position.β
Conte is who Arsenal need but I think Campbell is probably right will he be prepared to go there and would Kroenke back him if he did and we all know what Conte does it he feels he’s not being backed 100% plus.

30th August 2021 at 8:25 am #184064Been saying that for ages. I don’t know who in their right mind would go there. Only managers I could see take it on are ones who have a point to prove or maybe haven’t managed at that level before but certainly not a well-decorated manager.

30th August 2021 at 8:58 am #184065RatyRatae, I would suggest a lower league manager that is used to working with little or no money who has to get the best out of the hand heβs dealt. Unfortunately I canβt see a Prem team taking the gamble with a non-marquee managerβ¦β¦β¦.Pagan

30th August 2021 at 11:32 am #184080It might not be a name that particularly excites Arsenal fans, but Eddie Howe is one of the favourites to be next Arsenal manager because as I said in a recent post, now that Arsenal have decided to go down this route of buying young players with potential, it suits someone more like that. He currently doesn’t have a job, he has a strong identity that would suit Arsenal, would I think take the job and would surely be an improvement?

30th August 2021 at 11:40 am #184082Arsenal won’t have a problem replacing Arteta they are still a massive Club if that’s what Areenal finally decide to do they would though probably have a problem trying to convince Conte to go there if you review his history. Personally I think Eddie Howe is a good shout Mikus.
Seemingly though it looks like nothing is going to happen this side of the international break which points to Arsenal being prepared to give Arteta more time.
