I still feel Liverpool are so reliant on Salah doing well. Nunez and Gakpo aren’t good enough IMO.

17th December 2023 at 6:46 pm #211409Ed, I increasingly think in Nuñez we’ve bought an expensive impact player. Someone useful to come on later in a game. But not good enough to start.

17th December 2023 at 6:48 pm #211410Ed, we struggle with there’s a low block; the extra runner wide running closer to goal was probably our best weapon. Of all players, the best chance falls to Gomez!
Either a screamer, some dodgy pen decision or that extra man running wide was the only way we would score today.

17th December 2023 at 7:14 pm #211411No problem with the result. As expected. Very difficult game. Utd actually had better clear cut chances. All about top 4.

17th December 2023 at 7:22 pm #211413Im not sure if people will remember how pro-Nunez I was but he’s actually becoming a liability now. I’ve been calling for him to be dropped for 2 games now and he couldn’t have been more useless today, if he genuinely tried.
I don’t think he was our main issue though, even if he spearheaded our uselessness. Our main issue was this low tempo BS.
There really was no need for us to be playing the ball around as slowly as we were. the commentary kept on complimenting Utd for forcing us to play that way but I didn’t see it. I saw Utd being able to get into or stay in shape because we were playing it around casually. they weren’t hounding us. we had plenty of space and time on the ball. maybe we had too much?
I don’t like how we’re utilizing Gravenberch and I don’t like how Szoboszlai is settling into the team. His effectiveness is collapsing. IUU don’t want to give out about him but he’s not been good the last few games and Klopp needs to find a solution.
personally, I think I’d start Elliott instead of SZb next match and try to get more out of Gravenberch. I don’t want to blame the forward too much, because if the midfield are this slow, they are never going to be able to time their runs and Salah isn’t made of magic. Playing the ball to his feet, with his back to goal is a fallback, it isn’t Plan A. Ya he’s decent like this but it’s his utility, it’s not the best way to utilize him. Big difference.
Ed, II don’t know if you , noticed but Utd suddenly came alive with bout 3 mins left or so and wow, for a short window they were really lively and intelligent. Even in my own mist-filled mind of mwantring Liverpool to , win, I stopped myself and thought “well they can play when they want to!”… it’s there if they choose to bother… I just thought that i’d nearly be upset to see it were I a Utd fan.
Those players that started actually caring with 5 mins left have got to go. I don’t remember who it was now but that’s yer problem.
as for Liverpool, you can see that we’re not quite there, as I was kinda getting at previously. We are very very good in ways but there’s just something missing. it’s like we have all the ingredients but the pot hasn’t heated up enough yet. the chemistry isn’t quite there.
I think we have to find it fast because City and arsenal won’t stick around. I think we have more potential but they have more current ability.

17th December 2023 at 7:28 pm #211414Mak, I don’t mind at all that we were quite passive today. We were open last season with a full strength side and got torn apart and Liverpool had a brilliant home winning streak going. We were never going to go toe to toe with Liverpool with the side we had available and with Ten Hag clinging onto his job. I thought Mainoo was class in the middle. But yeah, intensity is something we’ve lacked all season for whatever reason.

17th December 2023 at 7:56 pm #211415I did feel more encouraged with a 4-2-4, but probably a little late in the day.
We need to look at alternative formations to when the main area of the pitch is packed. I do feel we shot ourselves in the foot today. Just the little things we missed that shape the overall dynamics:
– overlapping runs from full-backs or wide players
– shots from central
– surging runs from center half’s (Matip) maybe a bit more from Konate and Van Dijk. This game really was for the taking today and one of the weakest and timid ever Manchester United sides ever. Steve McManaman and Robbie Fowler would have won that game for us comfortably as they did 28 years ago today.
Mane is missed. Where’s our dribbler? I don’t know what distinction is Zobo and Gravenberch; what are they there to do?
Needed Jota today. Demote Nunez and place Salah Central. Hopefully this Wednesday Night’s a better night for us.

17th December 2023 at 8:00 pm #211416Ed, that lad was excellent alright. he showed the kind of drive that the others should be showing week in and out. That is the benefit of turning to youth players. Maybe it’ll give Ten Haag some food for thought because what he really needs even more than wins is a team that fights and fights.

17th December 2023 at 9:32 pm #211417Seeing in fighting between posters elsewhere. Carra and Neville meanwhile at each other’s throats on ‘atmosphere’.
I do get where Neville’s coming from; a Total contrast to the game in example of 28 years ago to this day. It’s supposed to be Christmas. Just weird though with us uncharacteristically attacking the Kop first (having lost the flick of the coin) and every other person expecting a fleet of goals.
No way on this planet would that happen albeit fielding our best and potent Liverpool Teams and we’re not those heights atm (let’s be honest).
Keane is livid on Van Dijk’s post match interview. It’s all going Pete Tong. Just calm it down a little and take a breather.

18th December 2023 at 7:41 am #211418Ah nil that’s what happens with big games. Carragher wearing that Jumper was silly. We were never going to slaughter utd. Utd had to sit in. Missing loads of players and far to open this season. Absolutely no issue wuth the result ydsy
Still will give nunez and gakpo time. Dis is a bigger concern as hadn’t played well in awhile. We aren’t creating chances for nunez now.
We are well ahead of we’re I thought we would be. All about top 4 for me
Arsenal we’re excellent yesterday and huge win fir villa

18th December 2023 at 11:37 am #211420Sean, I just think Carragher is a little too immersed with Liverpool and more of a fan than Pundit (the best of times).
We I believe are in a good position but we struggle when we’re missing key players and we plugging players in for the sake of 4 3 3 and that’s not coming off. No overlapping down the flanks and movement off the ball. Basic logic if we’re need ing to pull apart a stubborn block of players.

18th December 2023 at 11:41 am #211421Sean, its points build up for me. I’m targeting for us to hit 40+ and ideally up to 50 before Feb.
Top 4 looks competitive with Villa, and Spurs. Plus, there’s always room for an outsider to sneak in if they rack up some wins. That’s why we cant afford to carelessly drop 2 points from matches.
