13th January 2020 at 8:48 am #59690Fair weather, shitty weather, Finnish weather, call it what you want cyber chum, but I’m old enough and ugly enough to know when you’re hitting your head against a brick wall and it starts to really, really, double really hurt, then it might be a good idea to stop!!
At least I still checked the result in between episodes of “Gotham: Season 6”!! 🙂

13th January 2020 at 8:53 am #59694AnonymousWhat’s wrong with these goal scorers taking off their tops whenever they score knowing they will be booked. How dreadfully selfish and immature.

13th January 2020 at 11:34 am #598119s-Laporte or not,Citys defence is all over the place.Even this crap United side beat them comfy @ their own backyard, and it should have been 4 or 5 in the 1st half alone. And all that without our best player.Just like Barca, they have no defence at all.

13th January 2020 at 1:57 pm #59920Mav, wouldn’t disagree too much with that buddie. Defence has always been a bit of an Achilles heel to Pep.
Offensively though City can be brilliant as they demonstrated at OT last week and Villa Park yesterday the return of Laporte though strengthens City’s defence as well as potentially allowing Fernandinho to move back to his best position too and Sane will only add to City’s offensive potential.
I still think that nobody will want to draw City in the CL as I don’t think they will but that doesn’t mean that City will win the CL though albeit they are currently favourites to do so.

13th January 2020 at 2:20 pm #599369s-Utd were missing our 2 best players in that Qarabao Cup game,in Pogba & MCT,but we tore them to shreds in the league game in their own backyard earlier. It should have been 4 or 5 in the 1st half alone.Villa yesterday were just atrocious, they didnt want to play,it was abysmal. No such teams in the CL.

13th January 2020 at 2:25 pm #59941And City tore United to shreds last week at OT. Neither situation is relevant though as to whether assuming City are in the Qtr Finals of the CL the remaining Clubs in the Qtr Finals of the CL will or won’t want to draw City. My view is they won’t you don’t agree no worries.?

13th January 2020 at 3:12 pm #59970But we were missing our 2 best players mate, and even without Pogba we tore them a new one in the league @ their own backyard. All I m saying is that their defence is non-existant,Laporte or not.

13th January 2020 at 6:43 pm #60095Mav, yep I already agreed that defence has always been Pep’s Achilles heel and I agree even with Laporte City might still not be good enough defensively to win the CL.
But as I said Laporte coming back does strengthen them defensively and potentially allows Fernandinho to go back to his best position in front of the back 4 and Sane coming back would strengthen City offensively too and that’s the area their strongest in.
As I said if City go through to the Qtr Finals I think they will be a team most Clubs would prefer to avoid.

13th January 2020 at 8:01 pm #60140maverick…Utd played well on the counter but it was hardly “tearing us apart” 6-1 is what I call tearing you apart or at a push 3-1 in your back yard. Counter productive this. Utd won the match, City returned in style Pogba your best player???? Somebody who clearly does not want to play for you and has not done that much in PL..How many stand out matches has he had? I will take KDB any day of the week Your best player is Rashford but he is playing in the wrong team and carrying Utd I know…a bit harsh but players out, for either side is no excuse with the squads available or are you saying Utd squad is not good enough. The City squad is strong but reasonably balanced, self inflicted mistakes have costs us. Laporte will help when match fit, Sane will only have a cameo role, he will be off in the summer unless the German club change there mind, which I doubt. Pep knows the players he wants and who will be leaving….now

13th January 2020 at 11:14 pm #60240Just to add to your points Brian, Mendy is looking fitter with each game and getting some pace back. Cancelo, although took a while to adapt to the PL, in now looking a lot more comfortable. And Stones always looks far more confident playing alongside a dominant CB, so in that respect (aside from the obvious reason), the return of Laporte can’t come soon enough.

14th January 2020 at 5:39 am #60418AnonymousDelighted to have 3 of the 5 game block of tough matches out of the way with maximum points. Of course, it’ll all be for nothing if we don’t power through the remaining 2. Everyone’s wanted to call the PL over for a few months now. I think as time goes, it’s getting more and more favourable to any already very strong position for the reds.
I think someone said Liverpool must only win 11 of the remaining games to take the title. That really brings it home just how far ahead we are and is a reminder that we’re pushing past the half way mark now a while.
96 points would hand us the title, pretty fitting figure there but that’s only if City win every game from here on. Now, they actually are capable of doing this and are smashing teams right now, so the key to it is that we must keep winning.
After having a look, it seems that we need 12 wins, not 11. Of our remaining fixtures, 11 of them are either very winnable, or expected wins. The rest are against quality sides and Everton. 2 of the very winnable games are against a rejuvenated West Ham, so who knows which way that will go but having taken a better look at it, the 2 coming matches are even more definitive than I had previously thought. Wins here would would delete 2 off the tougher list and give us room to breathe even on the easier side of fixtures.
“liverpool are a damn machine, almost getting boring now this year with no real challenger and no points being dropped”
I can understand that. It’s not felt boring to us and I don’t just mean because we win every game but because we’re expecting the wheels to come off and for City to start banging 5 or 6 past everyone. City seem to be hitting that form but perhaps too late? You never know. Who saw City losing 5 in the first half of the season? The same amount of people who say Liverpool won’t lose that many in the 2nd half, nobody. It’s a funny old game but if the wheels can stay on for just a little longer, it’s done.
I haven’t really thought much about the CL but we have 5 PL matches between now and the first game against Atletico. It’s sandwiched by Norwich away and West Ham at Anfield. That’s not exactly terrible!

14th January 2020 at 5:52 am #60426Mak, it’s 12 wins or 10 if one is against City.
But as you say, the next two is what we should focus on. Two tough games although I’m more worried about Wolves than Utd at Anfield. Think after these we have the 4th Round of the FA cup, then West Ham (A) and Southampton before the 2 week winter break. After that it’s squeaky bum time with the finishing line coming into sight.
It’s a tough January for Liverpool but we are doing well so far. February and March are easier on paper but for City it looks very tough, some big away fixtures. All Liverpool need to do is focus on winning their next game and not worry about City, even if they start smashing every team by 6 from now on.
