14th January 2020 at 4:19 pm #60559Mav, I’m sure Liverpool fans would prefer at least two of those not to play. Whoever plays for Liverpool they should be too strong for United at Anfield but you never know.?

14th January 2020 at 4:24 pm #605629-Like I said, its gonna be a case of how many will Pool score, and I fear a proper spanking. But nowt to be ashamed of losing to this Liverpool side, even if its a drubbing.

14th January 2020 at 4:29 pm #60564999 – it’s a myth that Liverpool have to lose 5 games for City to win the title. Let’s say City pick up 46 out of their last 48 points, which I’m sure you’ll agree is entirely possible, they will then finish on 93 points. We would then need 94 to win the league as their goal difference would be far superior. So 33 points from 17 games. 9 wins, 6 draws and only 2 defeats would scrape us over the line, but if one of those wins was a draw or one of those draws was another defeat, then we wouldn’t win. Man Utd at home, Wolves away, obviously City away, Chelsea at home and Arsenal away are the obvious banana skins, but Everton away could be points dropped like last season, West Ham?
Look I know we are hot favourites and obviously I wouldn’t swap our position for anyones, but we don’t have to LOSE games…draws can derail us as well if City are practically flawless for the remainder of the season, and the amount of games we have won by a single goal this season suggest that draws are not that far away from becoming a reality. Like Mak suggested the next couple or three games could pretty much clinch it for us, but equally one point in those 2 matches and we’ll be twitching, I can assure you, especially Sean!!

14th January 2020 at 4:33 pm #60565HH-But Liverpool can easy beat City away, plus City too have to play everyone else, too. But the worst part of the season it over, the December/early January silly number of games and the WCC.On top of everything else,Liverpools injured players are coming back.

14th January 2020 at 4:40 pm #60566Hightown, you can play around with the various equations by adjusting the circumstances but put simply if City win every game the most points they can secure is 95, possible but unlikely.
If that were to happen Liverpool will need another 35 points from 17 games and a total of 96 points to secure the title as I said I will run around Stamford Bridge stark naked if Liverpool don’t win it from here.? And it will be won with a number of games to spare imo too.

14th January 2020 at 5:11 pm #60571You’re right, we SHOULD be able to do it, and we probably will, but you won’t find a Liverpool fan who’ll call it yet. And Mav, I’ve got to take issue with your statement ‘Liverpool can easy beat City away’. Anyone who beats City on their home patch, be it Liverpool or Wolves, don’t find it ‘easy’. It could happen, of course it could, but the result could just as ‘easy’ go the other way.

14th January 2020 at 5:12 pm #60572Hightown, Lol you are spot on mate!
We just need to keep winning.
Rashford is the worry on Sunday but anfield will be hopping.
Always a difficult game
Mav, utd fans said the exact same in October mate. Most said Liverpool would win by a clear margin. It didnโt work out like that all
Shiney said we would hammer spurs on Sunday. That didnโt happen either
Sunday be another right game but home advantage is huge in our favour

14th January 2020 at 5:14 pm #60573I tvibk we will have a chance of the league if we are 21 points clear with 6 games left ?
Iโm very very cautious and have given no thought to winning it as itโs jan and 17 games left

14th January 2020 at 5:23 pm #60574Hightown, I can understand that you’ve all got a lot more invested emotionally than any opposition fans, it’s been a long time coming and you’ve seen it drift away before.
I never accepted it was over with Chelsea’s 5 PL title wins until we were something like 10 points clear with 3 games to go.?
But you’ll win it for sure and pretty comfortably imo.

14th January 2020 at 5:33 pm #60576HH-Of course mate, anything can happen, things like injuries and the likes. But City have no defence,I mean Man City not Lesta. We could have scored 4 or 5 easy against them in the league in the 1st half alone, that without having Salah,Mane,Firminho. You will run us ragged on Sunday, and create chances @ will.Rashford,Martial and Maguire are carrying injuries, and Pogba & MCT are missing, and without them there is no protection for the defence, and nobody to create any chances for us.
ps;but please,dont let 9s run naked,please.

15th January 2020 at 3:44 am #60586AnonymousMav, Liverpool could very easily lose points against Utd and we definitely won’t walk into the Etihad thinking “No problem”. In fact, I think we’ll likely drop points here.
On one hand, when you read what Nine says about us having to lose 5, you’d almost think “christ, are we being unsporting by refusing to acknowledge the obvious?” …
BUT IT’S THE DRAWS!!!
HH has highlighted it perfectly and we don’t need to go far to prove his point. Only last season, 5 draws cost us the title. We have a larger lead this time and somehow we just can’t stop winning but give us just a few more matches lads.
As HH said, you won’t find a Liverpool supporter who will call the title yet but if we can just get over the line in the next 2 games, I’ll probably be the first. It’s an IF those lads, not a when. Mav, I get why you’d be unhappy with your side, they are very wishy washy but we both know that utd will turn up. We know ye have some good players who love the big matches. Look at Rashford’s form against the top teams. He’s scored and assisted against pretty much all of them this season, including Liverpool! I’ve got Martial in my FPL team and he’s banging them in too.
So no way lads. I’m so glad to have the likes of HH here to keep my feet on the ground TBH. I’ve been suffering with a bad case of “getting-carried-away-itis”. Thankfully the vaccination that was last season seems to be working well though.
I may start to levitate if we beat Utd. I can’t promise to stay grounded if we do it. I generally don’t look forward to Utd games anymore but this one feels different. The atmosphere will be electric and that’s going to filter down into the team, hopefully giving them a positive reaction (pun-unintended, i swear, ok I lied).
For the record, I do sympathize with you lads regards to this so far being a non-competitive PL season but it’s limited sympathy. Just give us this one PL and then have all yer clubs rejuvenated in the summer, ready to fight tooth and nail, as the PL should be. Most of the lads here have seen their clubs win the Pl title multiple times over the past few decades. Share the wealth boys ๐

Just for the record I for one don’t think that at all as I said to Hightown in relation to why Liverpool fans are reluctant to accept the title is won “I can understand that youโve all got a lot more invested emotionally than any opposition fans, itโs been a long time coming and youโve seen it drift away before.”

15th January 2020 at 11:28 am #60591Mak-There are 16 games[17 for Liverpool] to be played, there are no easy games in the PL,proved by Norwich,Wolves beating City,Bournemouth,Southampton,WHU beating Chelsea, etc. But Liverpool can & will only focus on winning their own games, plus City, too, have to play all the top teams, and your lads are more than capable of beating City in their own backyard. We did,and should have scored 4 or 5 in the 1st half alone, let alone your team with Salah,Mane,Firminho-3 world class players in attack! As for Liverpool vs Utd game,we are missing our 2 best players in Pogba &MCT,Rashford,Martial and Maguire are playing with injuries, and the game is @ Anfield. On top of all that,United arent that good anymore, everybody knows it….

15th January 2020 at 11:46 am #60592Mav, the stats below of United’s PL win v City at the Etihaf don’t quite back up your feeling of total dominance in that game albeit City are vulnerable to the counter attack and a long way away from Liverpool defensively.
Defence is definitely an area Pep will need to focus on strengthening in the Summer if City are going to go head to head with Liverpool for the title again.

15th January 2020 at 12:13 pm #605939s-Forget the stats,I was going from what I saw in the 1st half alone. and the chaces created, but we all know no team can or will score all the chances they create/ed.Yes things chancged in the 2nd half, but United should have had the game over & done with in the 1st half.Chances that Rashford & Martial missed would have been converted by a more prolific striker.

15th January 2020 at 12:35 pm #605959s-What I meant to say was to repeat the fact that United dont have the players to keep the ball, therefore we can only do things one way, namely counter-attack.But if we had,say an Aguero,Kane or a Lewandovski upfront, any of these strikers would have not missed the sitters Martial & Rashford did in the game.
