Charity Shield at the beginning of the season but most will not count that but it is there to be won and you have to do the work to get it

4th March 2019 at 4:10 pm #34923Always makes me laugh when the winners of that pre-season friendly fitness booster consider it a trophy… 🙂

4th March 2019 at 4:17 pm #34924Mikus, can’t disagree with that mate and if trophies don’t come along this season or next questions will be asked. Be surprised if they don’t though but it is mega competitive now and a lot of money will be spent in the Summer by all the top Clubs bar maybe Spurs who are hamstrung by the stadium and Chelsea should the ban not get postponed.

4th March 2019 at 4:20 pm #34925Agree with Chucky there are only a maximum of 4 trophies to be won whether you win it or not the Community Shield is just a glorified friendly.

4th March 2019 at 5:11 pm #34926Adlab, I think we set up more not to lose then win. Same againest utd
One thing I always liked about Klopp was he would attack any team anywhere but he’s been negative in the last two games.
He is being to over cautious away from home. You can tell the pressure is getting to him with his comments. Subs were poor
We kept trying to go over the top. The link up play upfront is poor. Salah is out of confidence. We need more imagination in midfield.
I’d go back to 4-2-3-1 and play Shaqiri who hasn’t got a look in recently
9 games to go but the general feeling is we have a missed a good chance. Let’s wait and see.

4th March 2019 at 5:57 pm #34927Adlab, I would pretty much endorse and repeat everything what Sean has highlighted.
The formation switch definitely would accommodate Shaqiri. For the first time notably in the post-match conference, Klopp was laconic and what usually is quite lengthy was done and dusted within 7-8 minutes.
Not his usual chirpy vibrant and measured self, and slight signs of toys out of the pram. He also misunderstood one of the questions asked and was quick in being defiant. This is probably purely down to a bad day in the office.
We got to wipe away these negative vibes and focus positively in winning games. There is a chance of us changing positions soon due to Man City’s FA Cup involvement, and should that successfully happen, then the pressure falls back on them.

4th March 2019 at 6:03 pm #34928Interesting thoughts chaps. Maybe a little bit of pressure is building with high expectation.

4th March 2019 at 6:58 pm #34929I’d just add that granted the poor form/trust Klopp has with some of these players which is partly causing Klopp to be more cautious, I think he’s also drifting into playing it safe more because he is under more pressure and is getting more paranoid about losing rather than going for the win – particularly away from home.

4th March 2019 at 8:01 pm #34930I also remember the same was said about the caraboo Cup aka Milk Cup aka league Cup and all its other names Chuky. Yes, a one off game and what games I have seen you would not call them that friendly but we all have a view and thats how it should be. To get to play in the game though whatever the team they had to win something first

4th March 2019 at 8:10 pm #34931Mikus…I think you have come close to what is happening. It will be an interesting game against Burnley who are fighting to keep distance between them and the relegation candidates, likewise I think Watford will play the opposite and play an open game against us. I could see this being 3-2 or 6-4!!!!! Now it will finish scoreless now that I have made a prediction for which I have a 99.99% failure rate and that is why I do not normaly predict scores..I am hopeless

4th March 2019 at 8:23 pm #34932Brian, the point I’m making is every team get injuries but where most clubs are putting in 2nd string players to replace them, c$ty are putting in top quality internationals, hence winning titles everywhere. No other club can do that.
As for Klopp, he is the best manager we’ve had for years, he’s spent more than most managers we’ve had & assembled the best squad we’ve had for years. Last season we played some of the best attacking football we’ve played for years, very enjoyable to watch. Problem is he is up against the most expensive squad in history & despite spending a lot of money we just can’t compete over a full season & yet again we will win nothing. I ask though who the hell would we replace Klopp with? My only criticism is how IMO he has gone too far away from the heavy metal football of last season & is too cautious this season. For me This is why Salah & co up front aren’t as devastating as last season. I get trying to balance things but it’s gone too far the other way for me & we’ve lost that fear factor. If we are going down, go down swinging._____________________________

4th March 2019 at 9:48 pm #34933Just spent the last half hour reading all the posts on this thread. Must say, some interesting and valid points made by all. There appears to be much pessimism on behalf of the ‘Pool fans, which is understandable but would not be shared by me in your position – yes, City (that’s C-I-T-Y, Oz ?) have a very strong squad but injuries are now mounting – De Bruyne, Stones, Laporte, Mendy, Delph, Fenandinho – five of which would be considered first choice. We are also still fighting on three fronts and potentially have up to 18 games still to play.
If it’s any consolation lads, I’m as nervous as hell about the PL and still think it could easily go either way. May the best team win._____________________________

5th March 2019 at 8:01 am #34937I agree with oz about what people were saying. Few of us predicted a blip and it’s not trying to part of the I told you so brigade. It’s just a bit to predictable with us
Cory is not the worry. It’s ourselves. We have messed up the opportunities presented to us. We are our own worst enimies.
Oz I don’t agree it’s been cautious football this season. In the last two away games then definitely but no the whole season
It’s much more controlled and we are patient. The front 3 are no were in sync like last season
We don’t have enough goals in midfield.
Look at the names giblues mentiins there for city. Yet they can be replaced by top top quality players in Bernardo Silva, kompany, Gundogen,Zinchenko who has come on leaps and bounds. They have sane, Mahrez and Jesus on the bench. It’s some squad and they can compete for every trophy. City looked so fresh on sat
Bournemouth had 11 behind the ball but city just passed it and passed. I don’t think I seen a misplaced pass. Then they pressed like hell
City are playing well. We are not. It’s theirs to lose now.

5th March 2019 at 9:45 am #34938Liverpool weakened their squad by letting Clyne and Solanke go in January and when the game needed changing v Everton they had Shaqiri on the bench who remained unused as well as Keita who cost circa £50m.
I’m not sure how many more “can they or can’t they” debates are possible on here you have to let the title race run its course now and see what happens.
Interestingly both Neville and Carragher came up with the same two conclusions as me firstly Liverpool would be better getting knocked out by Bayern and secondly Liverpool need to stay close to City and hope fixture congestion and injuries will trip them up towards the end of the season.
It’s still to tight to call.

5th March 2019 at 9:58 am #34940Have to say the posts on this thread have been really interesting.
I dont think Liverpool guys should doubt their team or their manager. You are still right there.
From my semi neutral perspective I think Klopp has tactics a bit wrong. If Salah is a bit off form, given he is the main man, then the long ball all the time against an organised defence may not work particularly away from home.In terms of squad clearly, left back apart, we have the best squad. However, if you lose 4 or 5 TOP players it isnt easy. Take Robertson, VVD, Henderson and Salah out…….we have lost
Mendy Laportd KDB Fernandino Stones DelphBut we can still put out a decent team but not as good as if the above were available. The point is that we arent performing as well as we could. Pool fans need fingers crossed not to get similar injuries. I think it might tell on us but we’ll see.
Nine to go!_____________________________

5th March 2019 at 10:15 am #34941Oz…I understand what you are saying about the City squad but we have lost three games in the league, against teams you would have thought we would have won, squad did not perform then. I think we will not go unbeaten in the next 9 games.I doubt Liverpoo will either although they will get draws and we will win or loose
