Jackson’s the main danger guy now along with Chukwuemeka 🙂

22nd August 2023 at 7:31 pm #208686Didn’t expect Mac Allister’s card to be overturned from Liverpool’s launched appeal and the evaluation from the FA. Naturally delighted by the outcome. We need him for Newcastle.

24th August 2023 at 11:49 am #208714These stats are incredible. I know I go on about De Zerbi a lot but I really think he’s in line for a top job if one comes up this season. That he can do what he’s doing despite Brighton continuing to lose their players every season just astonishes me. I know he’s fortunate to be at a club with Brighton’s almost unmatched ability to identify very good players for not much money, but he’s competing against some of the richest clubs in the world, often playing the likes of Danny Welbeck up top 😄

24th August 2023 at 11:53 am #208715The highest XG of any team since he came in? The most shots on target?
It brings back to prominence the whole subject of how important a manager is, which myself and Lucky have had discussions about before. Could you put another manager in at Brighton and expect the same results simply because the environment is set up for success? I genuinely don’t think you could. With that said, I don’t believe De Zerbi would quite have the impact he is having at any other club (albeit I still think he’d do a great job at most clubs). It’s a perfect mix of a perfect environment and a very capable manager.

24th August 2023 at 12:38 pm #208716There certainly is a lot to be said for the “right fit”, so to speak, with a manager/players/club just clicking in the right circumstances and over performing… and the wrong managers/players/club just not working… as the last three managers at the Spuds have proven.
The mind in boggling thinking what Zerbi could have done about 3 years ago with Son/Kan/Bale up top… (and, as I’m being silly, Moose in midfield, and a back four of Walker, Toby, Jan & Rose…
I’ll even chuck in prime Dele and Madders from the class of 23…
Just need a goalie now!

24th August 2023 at 12:42 pm #208717Rsgarding the debate about the importance of managers, I still think they ultimately dictate the direction of a football club. Yes the right recruitment is of course vital, but it takes a good manager to galvanise the whole thing and create positivity. When there is seamless success between managers you look at Ranieri at Leicester and there’s no doubt he took advantage of the qualities instilled by the previous manager, even if he still of course added his own qualities to it. You could probably say the same with De Zerbi following Potter. The things these follow on appointments have is there was already a good spirit in the team when the new man came in.
