Yeah Ed, when City get De Bruyne back I expect normal service to be resumed. Neither Liverpool or Arsenal good enough this season. Also Liverpool about to lose Salah and Endo in their respective continental cups. Unless both bring in others next month, can’t see it changing.

28th December 2023 at 11:04 pm #211589Gotta be delighted playing 19 games and sitting top of the tree. Nothing won but would anybody really would have predicted this is way it is?
I always beat the drum though of treating any of the opposition with the respect they deserve. We ourselves dropped points when we shouldn’t have and from one example of a winning position; Brighton (at their ground).
Equally, we won when we shouldn’t have; Palace and Newcastle.
Just gotta take it game by game and I’m sure places will be swapped more than once. I’m convinced even it City do win it, it won’t be by any big margin.

28th December 2023 at 11:26 pm #211590Key distinction above all is that City have the players who have already ‘done it’ with back-to-back league titles.
That’s where others lack. What do we say percentagewise from our current squad who won the title back in 2020? 25/30% at best? We lost a lot of players. So have Man City, but they’ve achieved in succession.
It’s for the other team to have the ingredients to get over the line and stop the trend.

29th December 2023 at 4:43 am #211591Ed, ya City will most likely take it. The weird thing is that Liverpool are doing better than they should, but they’ve also had some really crazy ref/VAR stuff that has cost them points. I mean, usually, when you say this it can be kinda subjective or something but it absolutely has.
In other games though, they’ve not played particularly well but still scraped a win. Some say this is the sign of a champion but I say that you can’t rely on this too often. You’ve got to impose yourself on teams most of the time if you want to win titles.
There is the discussion about why they aren’t quite there and I think most of it is down to the team not quite gelling yet. They struggle to play at a high tempo so often and Nunez is both not good enough a finisher ATM and gets caught offfside a frightening amount of times. Because Trent tends to run up through the middle, Salah is not being overlapped and cutting inside as much, and is more isolated out wide.
I don’t think Diaz is playing very well either and it’s been more than enough time since his real-life troubles for him to be back to his best. Klopp further reminding these players that they are fighting for a place in the team, would be a great thing to see.As for City, they will have KDB back at some stage and the PL better prepare themselves for that as best as they can (best of luck:P).
If Klopp can’t get what he needs, there’s always the January market. Maybe we actually need to go and sign a natural goalscorer? I don’t think so on this but I do think we need a top number 6._____________________________

29th December 2023 at 10:15 am #211592Ultimately with those mentioned of a comeback, the likelihood is treading with Caution especially on KDB because of the nature of his injury and the expected rehabilitation recovery time (although, this can vary depending on the individual).
Let’s say though, these players are up and running in Feb, the fixture list does good and potentially all winnable games and that’s also when the second phase of the CL comes in and a charge up on players is going to be needed ready to push on.
I think with us, I would love us to bring a new signing purely to boost us for the second half of the season.

29th December 2023 at 10:23 am #211593A hard ask, although I did like and appreciate Amazon’s Coverage; if only they were a bigger stakeholder.
This is what happens when you’ve monopolized for 3 decades and that’s Sky getting big for their boots. I see it slightly creeping in with TNT (formerly BT) Sports.
I don’t want us to be hyped or spoken about for any Title. It is what it is. Jurgen placed the brakes on that conversation straight away. “I’m okay, not happy”. He knows, the rebuilding job is in progress, but still steps to take.
It’s something to be proud of, but ultimately, we’ve won nothing and it’s just about trying to overcome the next opposition and giving them the respect they deserve, whether Anfield or playing on their soil.

30th December 2023 at 4:49 pm #211595Familiar territory. Guess who joins Liverpool at the Top Of The Table and guess who has received such an ovation on the pitch?
Villa as it stands have flaked.

30th December 2023 at 7:53 pm #211596Well that was absolutely dreadful. The usual one step forward and two back from Utd. Each big performance like the second half against Villa is followed by the usual rubbish. It’s just not good enough and serious questions need asking of Ten Hag.

30th December 2023 at 8:31 pm #211597Shocking display and this was all down to the manager.
Why bring on McTominay who is not a holding midfielder for Mainoo and completely disrupt the balance.
Why play Gernacho on the left when he had the best game of his United career on the right.
Understand injuries can change things, but why not try a left footed player like Antony on the left or play Rashford there and give a youth player a chance as a striker._____________________________

30th December 2023 at 8:35 pm #211598For me United are not as bad as the results suggest.
I think their biggest problem is that Ten Hag doesn’t adapt his tactics to the opposition. I think tonight they would have been better trying to keep the ball rather than the constant dash forward. But what do I know.Looking forward to having KDB, Haaland, Doku and Stones back. Should help a bit!

30th December 2023 at 11:48 pm #211599Awful, again. No fight, no spirit, no passion, again.
Add in Ten Hag thought McT could hold his position and itβs the usual calamity.
Absolute joke.
Genuinely would sell all but two or three players from the whole squad.

31st December 2023 at 11:17 am #211600I think Jamie Redknapp contradicts himself in this clip.
Everything Gary highlights if you unpick this is 200% accurate.

31st December 2023 at 11:22 am #211601On the subject and story of the burglary on Jack Grealish’s home, this also happened to Raheem Sterling. We don’t hear of the news breaking quite often surrounding footballers.
We have as a visual and supplementary aids technology at our disposal to be able to trace movements and sight, i.e. in camera form and one example being the ring doorbell.
We just don’t have the ample number of officers needed to quite simply be able to take ownership of localized incidents. It’s the same with shoplifting in Supermarkets. More and more criminals know they can get away with this.
It’s just a crime reference and some form of recovery/compensation, but the criminals are not as such caught and brought to justice. It’s an epidemic in our country.

31st December 2023 at 12:16 pm #211602Alas, that is sadly becoming the case nil and you are right to raise this as it is now in danger of becoming normalised and some footballers may actually be put off from coming to the league. Didnβt Di Maria actually leave because of such a thing?
The actual police numbers per head of population I believe are still quite high compared to back when they used to conduct preventative foot patrols in the 60s. The problem is the police now tend to react to crime rather than prevent it. Until local police stations are reopened and mass preventative foot controls are once again conducted putting authority back on the streets rather than the method of reactive policing we have now where I donβt think the police even always turn up for every crime, nothing will change and the criminals wonβt have much to fear. The police were actually set up by Sir Robert Peel centuries ago to prevent crime through preventive foot patrols in the community (hence the term bobbies) and gathering intelligence on the streets. That needs to come back and no political party is serious about it. Donβt be conned by slogans of βmore bobbies on the beat.β It wonβt happen on no where near the scale it needs to.
Added to that by the time most criminals end up in prison they are already habitual criminals having been let off so many previous convictions through non custodial sentences. But as I say, good luck finding a politic party with the will to reform the police and criminal justice system.

31st December 2023 at 1:30 pm #211603Surely they can put a fancy alarm system in place, this will at least alert neighbour’s or it can also be linked to the nearest police station or scare off the criminals hopefully. I mean they can easily afford an elaborate alarm system. There’s no safe haven anywhere nowadays.

31st December 2023 at 1:50 pm #211604Mikus, couldn’t put that better myself and wholeheartedly agree.
13 years of this government has otherwise ripped the heart of local communities. Cuts cuts cuts.
We need greater numbers to fill our district, and you’re right; no presence and no visible deterrent; just an easy ride and confidence grows for the opportunist.
Rover you are right too. Logically speaking, the Police you’d have thought would have been alerted. I don’t believe at all from Jack Grealish’s point of view of his set up being naive, but it seems it’s been cleverly thought out and tackled.
Mikus, insurance would cover it of course, but as you’ve highlighted with Di Maria, a family man effectively is going to be traumatized. And of course, it’s had the same effect with Grealish’s family.
