The other thing that gives me a bit of optimism is that in our first 8 games, we have already played 3 of our toughest games all season…more than any of our rivals. Spurs and Chelsea away and City at home. City have played Arsenal and Liverpool away, and Chelsea have played Arsenal and Liverpool at home. Spurs have only played ourselves at home, and Arsenal have played Chelsea away and City at home.
But of course, all that means nothing in the grand scheme of things. Both the City game and Chelsea away we were only a couple of minutes away from losing both games with the missed penalty and Sturridge’s late goal. We could very easily have been 4 points behind City and Chelsea instead of level on points. It’s going to be an interesting season!

9th October 2018 at 4:46 pm #27052Sorry, Chucky, I was only including the teams that I thought might challenge this season. That’s why I didn’t include YooUtd!
But you’re right, I guess, Utd away is one of the tougher games even if they are shite at the moment…sorry Mav, Ed etc

10th October 2018 at 5:46 am #27055AnonymousIf every top 6 team appears to be having an easy run when and where will they have a tough run meaning more than just a couple of games.

10th October 2018 at 8:30 am #27056Moos – in the next 8 game run of fixtures Spurs have to play 3 of the other 4 challengers, and Liverpool and City only have to play one of their fellow challengers (still not including Man utd!). Chelsea and Arsenal play 2 each

10th October 2018 at 9:23 am #27057Hightown that is the beauty of mathamatics and statistics….you can move the scale wherever you want and make a case. We all tend to read too much into these things instead of looking forward to the next game. I believe there are no easy game, just some maybe a little harder It really serves no purpose because the only thing that matters is how your team perform on the day Just watch and enjoy forget about numbers or fixtures

10th October 2018 at 2:22 pm #27058Spot on Brian Liverpool could very easily have now been on 18 points were it not for Sturridge’s last minute equaliser and the Mahrez penalty miss trailing both City and Chelsea by 4 points.
Good fortune and difficult fixture runs even themselves out over a period of time for everyone sometimes playing one of the teams fighting for survival can be just as challenging as playing against the top Clubs.

10th October 2018 at 4:29 pm #27060I think you’ve all misunderstood me. I’m not saying that because we have had the toughest first 8 games, we’re going to go on and win the league, and I’m not saying that we, or anyone else if it comes to that, are nailed on to beat the so-called lesser clubs. I’m not stupid…I know football isn’t as clear cut as that, and of course it evens out over the season…doh!!
But it doesn’t alter the fact that Spurs away, Chelsea away and City at home are 3 of our most obviously difficult games all season, and we’ve played them without too much damage being done, which as I stated in an earlier post, gives me a small reason for further optimism, that’s all. And 999, I did state that we were only a couple of minutes away from being 4 points behind yourselves and City

10th October 2018 at 4:41 pm #27061Hightown…you have every right to feel optimism my only point was that if you quote any selection of games from any period of the season it can always be countered by another, that is the reason I do not get wrapped up in statistics, they are there for the media to fluant to supposedly wet our appetite for more. As mentioned the only thing that matters is the next match, not the last ones and the result. I do see where you are coming from but be careful not to convince yourself too much. City play Burnley next, to me this will be as tough as the Liverpool game.
On the Liverpool/City game I was sure it would be 1-1- or 2-2 before the kick off_____________________________

10th October 2018 at 6:39 pm #27063If it would not be for a penalty miss by Mahrez and a goal that clearly should not have stood and we would be on maximum points. Such is football.

10th October 2018 at 7:04 pm #27064Fair enough, Brian, but it’s not just the next match that counts. If we’d lost the first 8 matches, our next match wouldn’t matter in terms of the title race! But you’re right, statistics can be twisted, but I’ve taken as wide a spread as I can possibly do i.e everybody’s first 8 games – 20% of the season.
Anyway, as you say it’s all bullshit really – it was only meant as a talking point, so I guess I achieved my objective!

10th October 2018 at 7:09 pm #27065999 – not a problem, man! I’m realistic. Like you I feel City will stretch their lead fairly soon, especially with KDB back. But if someone had said to me we’d be joint top after 8 games having played Spurs and Chelsea away and City at home, I’d have laughed at them

10th October 2018 at 9:43 pm #27066Hightown, you’re not far away mate and I think there’s been a massive step in the right direction with the signings of Allison and VVD.
I certainly wouldn’t rule you out of the title race although I do think big CL games followed by PL games exposes your squad as being a bit thin v City’s in similar circumstances and they still have KDB to come back and he’s probably a £200m player.
It won’t be easy for anyone to finish ahead of City but there’s a long way to go and if Leicester proved anything it was that anything is possible.? Cheers 999

11th October 2018 at 7:57 am #27068Do you guys think city and luveroool changed tactics on Sunday? Both were a lot conservative on Sunday in my opinion. Gomez didn’t cross the line in the 1st half. We weren’t getting men forward like we usually do and there was no suooort for the front 3. We were the same ahainest Napoli. I’m
A huge fan of Klopps because he usually attack’s any team anywhere. At home to city maybe he was right because go to gun ho and they would pick us apartNot sure what has happened to our pressing. We look wrecked already
I thought city were a bit conservative aswell. Only one full back attacked at a time and the other pushed into me 3 at the back. City’s back 4 also took a few steps back and didn’t play as high a line as usual. Shows the respect both teams have for each other
City will walk the league. It’s only a matter of time before they pull away.
I’ve watched a bit of Chelsea and they are well in the hunt. Reakky fast football, lots of passing and high press. Very good team

11th October 2018 at 8:03 am #27069Hightown, delighted with our start mate
We have had a little blip and international break came at a good time for us but we’re already lacking numbers in midfield. Milner our for a month. Lalanna night aswell not be there. He’s always injured
The squad is to weak to challenge for the title. We need to start rotating a bit more. Fabhino and keita need more games. Both are taking time to settle in but they need to integrated into the side
Sturridge and Shaqiri need more starts.he needs to trust the squad
