It would be interesting to see what the tolerance is on the VAR system, with the goal line technology were only talking in monitoring a static line of 8 yards, with offside were looking at monitoring a dynamic line of 68 yards over 105 yards (average pitch sizes) yet we’re saying we’re accurate to a centimetre or so when the ball starts going forward, which in itself is a best guess.
Going back to the Spurs Leicester game, VAR shouldn’t have been used on the Leicester goal, that was obviously offside and the assistant should have flagged, the Spurs goal I don’t think the system is accurate enough to be 100% sure….Pagan_____________________________

22nd September 2019 at 11:32 am #47976It’s pedantic and the millimetres thing sucks from a Tottenham POV. We had it last year with the Man City goal. Look at the ‘fatness’ of the actual line of the marking…
It happens in Tennis too by a whisker.
When it’s presented afterwards away from real time, that one particular angle shows Son just a tad. I don’t know whether in future as far as offside is considered whether the attacker would be allowed a thresh-hold in his favour.
The problem with this though is the stir it will generate. Maybe sending out the ‘black and white’ message is best and ethical practice all round.
I don’t like these computers showing me. I wanted to see this properly from a Camera.

22nd September 2019 at 11:37 am #47977I have no problem with VAR, I do have a problem with human interpretation of what has happened.Being a cynical soul I see it as a thin edge of wedge for somebody to control results eventually unless it sorted now. What is the point in having technology interpreted by humans, may as well stick with a Referee and use VAR for say goal line technology instead of somebody’d toe sticking over a line planted on a screen by another human

22nd September 2019 at 11:43 am #47978Mr. Balance, I have no problem with the accuracy of goal line technology, it’s a static line monitored by static cameras, and as such can be extremely accurate. Off side is another matter as everything is dynamic.
A proper camera angle is nigh on impossible as the camera would always have to be level with the second last player, and as such would have constantly be moving….Pagan_____________________________

22nd September 2019 at 11:44 am #47979The problem with raising the flag Pagan is that it can be confusing for the players and players can stop playing if they see it. Much better imo with VAR in place to let play continue and rule the goal in or out retrospectively.
Offside is the simplest thing for VAR to rule on and whether people like it or not it’s black and white as it is with goal line technology and Hawkeye in Tennis etc etc etc.
Anyway what did you think of the game and the job Rodgers is doing at Leicester and what about the goals scored by Kane and Maddison?

22nd September 2019 at 11:52 am #47980999, in tennis as goal line technology the camera is monitoring a Static line and seeing if a ball has crossed it or not, offside isn’t as simple as that, see my previous post.
As for the assistant putting his flag up, basic footy, you play to the whistle.
Kane’s goal was fantastic, and shows what you can do if you don’t just play for the foul, and I think he should be getting plaudits for it…..Pagan

22nd September 2019 at 11:56 am #47982AnonymousBoth Kane and Maddison’s goals were sensational. Kane’s focus was unbreakable. The way he manages to hook it in quite cleanly, even though he’s tumbling to the ground was really something. That’s a man who knows he’s fighting a losing battle with gravity (thanks to the shove he got just before he entered the box) but he still sustains his influence over the ball, which is all that matters.
Maddison’s goal was a great strike and maybe an “FU” to me for not having him in my FPL team.
As for Rodgers Nine, I would actually be interested in hearing the non-Liberoools supporters opinions of Rodgers, on the whole. What about yourself?

22nd September 2019 at 12:04 pm #47983Mak, re Rodgers I enjoyed the football his Liverpool team played especially in the title challenge season as you said he could be a bit of a plonker at times in his interviews and it’s difficult to really asses what he did at Celtic because it was such an easy League for Celtic.
But I’ve been really impressed with him since he came to Leicester and the football he’s got them playing.
I can see Leicester developing further under him and ultimately him moving back to a top PL or a top European team.

22nd September 2019 at 12:15 pm #47984Mr Pagan, I do sympathize in how the Spurs supporters would feel. It’s ultra-tight.
Perhaps in the past, that might have not been noticed on the naked eye by the Linesman.
It wasn’t blatant offside, but just a feather. The game just turned on it’s head and I do feel for Spurs, but credit to Leicester.

22nd September 2019 at 12:17 pm #47985Don’t know what Everton are about at the moment. That really is a big 3 points for Sheff United and really pleased for them. Tough game for us next Saturday. I can see them staying in the Prem.

22nd September 2019 at 12:19 pm #47986Rodgers is doing a great job at Leicester, you have to give anybody credit who can get a side to be better than the sum of it’s parts. Not only are the working for each other, they’re also playing good football….Pagan

22nd September 2019 at 12:44 pm #47988Rodgers turned saurez into a top striker. Saurez has said that himself. He put that liveroool team together that nearly won the league with feck all money
He’s a very good coach but like says? He can talk rubbish

22nd September 2019 at 2:02 pm #47990AnonymousSean, I’m very tempted to predict a Liverpool loss also but I just can’t bring myself to do it. There are too many questions to be answer about their defence, even if on the whole, I think they are better than people realise. They gave us a real game in the Super Cup. before people say “that’s just a friendly”, it really wasn’t. Liverpool took it very seriously, with Klopp going absolutely mad on several occasions.
Nine, agreed, I don’t even count what he did at Celtic, although given that he broke records (had an invincible season?) and won the treble, maybe that’s worth something but what? We can’t compare it to anything really. That’s why that job was a mistake for him, in my opinion. He couldn’t have done better there and everyone is still “ehh…*shrug*..”.
As for him going to one of the big teams, I wouldn’t rule out Leicester just becoming one. PL TV money and the way it’s distributed makes this possible. Of course, it’s still a very tall order but they’ve sold a player for £85m, haven’t needed to directly replace him and have instead spent some money on other areas but I think they have more in the tank for the next transfer window. 3 smart purchases and other conditions going well for them and that team might be able to challenge for a CL spot. For now I think they’ve got to settle for 5th to 8th but you never know of course.
ADDITIONAL : I wasn’t entirely clear above. What I meant about the £85m is that by being smart along with having such a lucrative TV arrangement for the entire PL, there is potential there for teams with ambition and and ability to spot a player.
Look at Liverpool. yes, we’ve spent A LOT of money but not all of our big names were jaw dropping figures. The now world famous front 3 cost us about £105m combined. Now, prices have gone up since then, granted but people/the media thought we’d over paid for all 3 at the time.

22nd September 2019 at 2:10 pm #47992Why is Maguire passing the ball to Linderhof when the build up from the back should really be leading from both him and Matic?

22nd September 2019 at 2:11 pm #47993It is probably true that almost all Managers do not like being interviewed although, regrettably, it is part of the job these days, some just cannot do it well. This does not make them a bad manager though. I must admit I like Klopp and Rodgers, we need these guys in the EPL. I also admire Dyche Pelligrino and Rafa
I think Lampard should turn out OK at Chelsea but he needs that vital commodity TIME. At some point we will have to look at a successor to Pep but I think we have him now_____________________________

22nd September 2019 at 2:26 pm #47996Mak, I think there’s every chance of Rodgers taking Leicester on further and I certainly wouldn’t rule out trophies but I can’t see another PL title anytime soon.
Very difficult for Leicester to become a top Club ie a regular trophy winner imo.
Roger’s is obviously a talented guy though so I wouldn’t rule anything out and he seems a lot more down to earth in his interviews now.
If things continue as they are at Leicester they could be pushing for a top 4 spot sooner rather than later which in normal circumstances is probably their maximum.
