12th September 2019 at 5:47 pm #47375But it’s not silly at all Sean. What was silly was giving such a huge job to a manager who won some stuff in Norway and took Cardiff down. Nothing whatsoever silly about there being pressure on him at this point. If he becomes a success at the club, it would be a miracle considering his managerial record to date and the squad he has available to him. We don’t have a single proper striker at the club. Neither Rashford or Martial are strikers IMO, nor do either have great records in front of goal.

12th September 2019 at 7:52 pm #47382What seems to curretly determine whether Man Utd get a good result, is what mood the players are in that particular day. At the moment James is the only breath of fresh air for them, and it obviously isn’t quite enough, and add to that Solksjaer just seems to lack any kind of authority over them. This is very akin to Rodgers last season at Liverpool, where it just looked a matter of when not if the axe fell. Is Allegri prepared to cut short his sabbatical?

12th September 2019 at 8:32 pm #47385It’s slightly bizarre, for the first time in years, I think all the games I really want to see are all at 3 o’clock… that doesn’t happen too often…

13th September 2019 at 3:15 am #47391AnonymousWell Chucks, I think that’s because there aren’t too many interesting match ups this weekend. The Utd and Chelsea fixtures probably being the best of them, with the Bournemouth V Everton game as a tertiary option. Of course there are a few others where some teams can look to show their intent. I think West Ham have got to do better than last season. That Haller guy looks like he’s going to have an impact on the PL and he’s got the creativity behind him to make sure he is fully utilized. Of course their lack of cover up top is downright strange.
In my own selfish desires though, I’m hoping for Mane to have a less frustrating experience. He’s had what I would call unhappy spells in this team through-out the years and his performances have suffered. Last season he was our most consistent player though and I’ll hope for that to continue on in this one but our forwards are going to have to work together a little bit better.
I know people say you want your forwards to be selfish and I think that is often the case but when you’re looking at the way Liverpool play, it’s definitely better to have them working well together and to all be happy. If we have one of the 3 on the ball and at least another is in a much better position to score, you bet your ass that I want to see them pass. The golden boot is a worthless piece of crap if it costs us a single point, so if I were Klopp, I’d remind them of this without making an issue of it.
We’ve got to get 3 points no matter what though because you know City will and we can forget about keeping up with GD early on, as City could score 7 or 8 tomorrow. If they absolutely needed that amount of goals, you know they’d find a way.
Anyway, cleansheet and 3 points with no injuries please!

13th September 2019 at 7:02 am #47393Peggy… I was trying to get to Plymouth so I don’t know what was going on… π
Micky… yeah, the Chelsea and UnYooUtd games are the most interesting, along with the Mighty Spuds of course, I guess I’m in for a surprise at 5 o’clock Saturday when I discover which one is on the telly. As a neutral, got no interest in watching an ass-whopping which will be occuring in the Liberoools/City games. Might keep one eye on the scores and if there’s still some sort of contest with 20 to go I might swtich one.
Going to the zoo Sunday, nothing remotely interesting with the football there… π

13th September 2019 at 7:46 am #47396AnonymousOur own clubs games are interesting to us, regardless of opposition but were I not a liberoools fan I wouldn’t care to watch it at all.
I’ll be honest, putting Liverpool aside, the most interesting thing about the PL this season is who, if any can make the step up from mid-table to top 6 contention. I think for the first time in a long long time, it’s actually a realistic possibility that we might see a change in the “old” narrative. I put that in quotes because the ‘Big 6’ is not actually terribly old. Remember when it used to be the ‘Big 4’? Now, that got quite boring after a while and with the 6 forming a break-away, that also got , well, less interesting anyway… although it’s definitely a lot more interesting than 4 going for 4 places.
Quality competition is key for the continued success of the PL, it’s what made it what it is today. If we are looking into a season where a ‘Big 8’ could begin to form, or where the number is finally so large that the segregating title were to vanish, this could only be a good for us as spectators, surely?
What I’m getting at is that although I am typically been an almost entirely Liverpool only viewer (with the odd big club game here and there), I’m thinking about watching the likes of Wolves, Leicester, West Ham and Everton, at least in terms of extended highlights.
Has anyone else had similar thoughts? Besides Nil, we know he dislikes all of them π (relax, this is light banter me old chap).
anyway I’ve prattled on long enough.

13th September 2019 at 8:02 am #47397Ed, ole was the wrong appointment from the off but Neville says he needs 2/3 seasons to get it right which he is not going to get
Were do you think Rashford best position is? His finishing letβs him down.
Martial has all the attributes to play centre forward in my opinion.

13th September 2019 at 8:33 am #47398AnonymousWhen Neville first started out in this I was really surprised at how knowledgeable he was. Over time though, I’ve just found him to be less and less so to the point where I don’t rate him at all anymore. Ole won’t get 2/3 seasons because they will eventually wise up to what most of us have known since last season, that his appointment was a mistake. The moment you realise you’ve made a critical error, you’ve got to work towards amending it.
The problem with Utd is that we’re looking at a symptom and not the disease. Honestly, it never ceases to amaze me at just how poorly the club is being run. Most clubs with these types of issues are at least dealing with limitations (money and reputation). For Utd the sky is the limit, yet their bumbling of pretty much every key decision since Fergie left is seemingly unending. There is some excuse for issues here and there but any fool can see that Woodward is ruining the club. I say any fool but what does this make the Glaciers? They are obviously completely out of touch with the game, even more so than Woodward and although Utd fans can take solace in knowing that their club is such a financial juggernaut that it can take this on the chin for now, it will eventually reach a point where irreparable damage has been done.
If that fool Woodward gains a single moment of clarity , he’ll sack Ole and offer to make the best available manager on the planet the highest paid in the game, to come and arrest this utter disaster.
Until that moment, I’ll continue to wonder if Woodward isn’t a closet Liverpool fan because only that could explain his utter ineptitude.

13th September 2019 at 8:38 am #47400I think the influx of money for the so-called “medium teams” has certainly leveled out the playing field.
It took a huge wedge, some might argue to big a wedge, to get Maggie from Foxy Ladies to jump ship to UnYooUtd, and even with that happening, there’s still a very good chance Foxy Ladies could finish above them. Sure, they have a bit of pulling power, but based on the actual performances from last 2/3 seasons, you would have to say that move was maybe a bit of a sideways step rather than a step up.And it’s all well and good for the UnYooUtd boyz banging the “we’ve” got the biggest wedge of them all, but there aren’t many teams that actually need to sell these days…
The traditional top teams, going back the Top 4, or now the current “Top 6”, can’t just wave their checkbooks about and expect players to come running.
In fact, I would even go as far to say we have a Top 2, rather than a Top 6…
More like Top 2 followed by “Wacky Races Brigade”!! π
