15th September 2019 at 8:41 pm #47574It’s just all too much to be fair to Pep. There’s to much probing when a result doesn’t go your way. There’s multiple interviews to deliver so it’s only a matter of time when your buttons are pushed.
I don’t think he was sarcastic or nasty towards Liverpool, just that he’s miffed and just wants to go home and chill out with a Bottle.

15th September 2019 at 8:55 pm #47576I do notice on Sky regardless of who’s on at the time on the Box, the Presenter Dave Jones to be a ‘click-bait’ wind up merchant. Souness is permanently in Anger mode, so that makes it worse. Redknapp just prattles on and doesn’t know when to pause himself, as with Carra.
I’ve just got to the point where it’s just all noise to me and I just switch everything off. I think they’re very harsh on defenders like they’ve committed a huge crime.
Trying to find a decent alternative coverage.

15th September 2019 at 9:31 pm #47577Nil…quiet right about the pundits, None of them have achieved anything at the Management level of Pep and that is what gets to them. The one thing you cannot take away from Pep is his experience which is greater than theres. They write and comment on what they think will be a headline hence the dumb questions

15th September 2019 at 9:44 pm #47578Brian,
I honestly cannot get my head around the furore in the first place.
It’s 5 games played. I’ve seen in the past Newcastle racing away, then just faltering.
It’s a very long and hard season and solid expectations. Players are not going to deliver 100% for 60+ plus matches.
You are right. Talk is talk, but none of these individuals sat in the chair achieved anything Pep has.
Nothing has changed my view. It’s honesty from me that Manchester City are strongest of Teams, and it’ll be one hell of a task for any team to snatch the Title away from them.
Cheers

15th September 2019 at 10:05 pm #47580One of the masters of squad rotation, if not the best, was Ferguson. And what was integral to his rotation was having that ability to replace senior players with younger academy players, and the positive results would continue seamlessly. They obviously had the added bonus of having that extra fight and determination.
So I was somewhat left scratching my head as to why Foden never made an appearance for City yesterday. I know heβd also been away with the England U21s, but here is a guy who has been with the club since he was a young kid and you would think would have been itching to get on the pitch yesterday. I know it was at the back City had their problems, but even so, it would have given City that extra bit of badly needed freshness and spark. And itβs somewhat bizarre that Guardiola has recently labelled him as shy and not yet confident enough. Is this poor man management by Pep? Or is there fault with Foden? Thoughts City fans?

15th September 2019 at 10:06 pm #47581Nil…this season will be a defining moment for some City players, Changes are needed and changes will come. What we have learned at City is teams that do not change will not challenge for long, including City. I see at least 5/6 players, maybe more, from the existing team not being with us next year January or end of season. If I look back at the last 10 years the turnover has been very high. I hope we see some youngsters being brought in as well. I would be prepared to sacrifice titles for a season of experience for them, of course, that will not happen . We also need clubs like Burnley Bournemouth and others who are well managed to stay in the division as long as possible and maybe a few “elites” be relegated to get there feet on the ground again. Of course I am dreaming again

15th September 2019 at 10:24 pm #47584Mikus,
I do agree in majority. I do feel though for every new season going in to support that Ideal came a Henning Berg, or a Ronnie Johnson or a Rio Ferdinand.
Kenny’s 1990 Liverpool were all but on their knees and a good portion of our lot came to the point of Replacement.
Where as examples in Neville Brothers, Butt, Scholes of the ilk were the Apprentice that were able to shadow like for like experience.
Ferguson employed a 4-4-2 system and it the very latter 1990s employed the Super-Substitution of Solksjaer-Sheringham for Cole and Dwight Yorke. Cantona has Retired, but they had Keane and Beckham, the Ruud Van Nistelrooy and Seb Veron.
There was always a more steadier and a smoother transitional changes to the squad in which credit to Alex Ferguson was a Mastermind in his own right.

15th September 2019 at 11:09 pm #47585Agree it’s a strange one Mikus. If Foden really is the best talent Pep has ever seen, like he said, it begs the question as to why he neither plays him nor loans him out. If, as Pep suggests, he has a shyness problem and needs to assert himself more, I can’t think of anything more suitable than a season in the Championship like Mount had.

16th September 2019 at 6:39 am #47586Well, the number of midfielders at senior level that City has is staggering, so they should be forgiven if they opt not to field Foden. and to be honest, not that many players from the academy have played cosistently for the top 6 in the last 10 years, Liverpool had TAA to show for, United has Rashford to show for, Arsenal Wilshere only Spurs can say and they had Kane and Winks and Chelsea didn’t had one until we are forced to do. so similarly unless they are forced,City will not entertain that. the top 6 teams will look the market for quick fix rather than nature and wait their own players. besides that who ever played for City, would still have lost that match. sometimes you need to give the oppisition a full credit. and Norwich defended for their lives and hit City on the break. and i suspect many teams would replicate that tactics.

16th September 2019 at 7:51 am #47589Would probably add McTominay and Lingard to that list for Utd Chelsea man. That’s only counting the regulars. The likes of Pereira, Greenwood, Chong, Gomes, Tuanzebe are all getting chances for Utd too. Granted, ours don’t have as many top players (if any) to get past.
But let’s remember, this is THE best talent Pep has EVER seen, including Messi, Xavi, Lewandowski, Iniesta, Ronaldinho etc. If he’s really that good, it shouldn’t matter who is ahead of him should it?

16th September 2019 at 8:18 am #47599AnonymousTo speak about Pep “congratulating” Liverpool, he did no such thing. I’m really tired of the media constantly misrepresenting every scenario as much as they can in order to get a story. I think there need to be laws against being deliberately misleading.
I didn’t watch the entire post match interview, so maybe Pep said something after this that was genuinely controversial but I saw the moment where he said “congratulations Liverpool etc etc”… He was being sarcastic to an idiotic question that, as Chucky said, shouldn’t have been allowed. The answer to this is to have a mediator there to stop them in their tracks when they ask a loaded, or idiotic question.
I’ve no problem at all with Pep sarcastically resigning the PL, there’s no meaning in his words, so it’s all good. For that moron to suggest that City could only afford to lose 2 games all season… This is not how PL titles go. They won’t all be 98-100 point wins. I definitely see Liverpool losing a few games this season and we may well see that in our very next PL match… So maybe you can see why this kind of media drama really irks me. What if Chelsea hammer us? Will the same clown ask Klopp if the good times are over and what he’ll do in his next job? …

16th September 2019 at 8:49 am #47601Yeah to be honest it wouldn’t surprise me if that is the only game City lose all season and they still go on to get 100+ points. They certainly have the squad to do it. They lost at home to Palace last season and there were similar claims of a collapse then but I’m pretty sure they didn’t lose again after that, or at least went on an unbelievable run until the end of the season. No doubt, they’ll be back to business on Saturday with a 4/5 nil win at home to Watford

And Brian. Complete over reaction to one defeat for city. Itβs just ridiculous. They didnβt play well. They very rarely donβt play well. Itβs one game.
Ed, agree , how many games did city win after losing to Newcastle last season? 14 was it?

16th September 2019 at 10:00 am #47606Good post Mak. I think these media people need to pass some kind of intelligence test before commenting on some agenda they want to follow It is good to see sensible fans on here have spotted them.
They will also know that Pep is not that kind of person to put the infamotary remarks they have chosen to interpret and highlight, however, that is what they wanted, not a sensible discussion. They just wait for this type opportunity, it will happen to others as well as Pep._____________________________

16th September 2019 at 10:48 am #47607Double B… can’t speak for everybody else, but I tend to ignore pretty much all comments from all “interviews”, even with Poncho involved, as I firmly believe 99% of the ass-hats with the mics are simply there to try and create controversy rather than any degree of actual reporting. It’s all about the “hits” they can generate.

16th September 2019 at 10:52 am #47608It’s a cut throat industry and so they need a headline to reel people in.
I was personally just happy reading premiership reports in the 90s off Teletext and Ceefax.
