There is lots of football to be played now that the Champions League has reignited for this season. We have 2 tough away trips that can’t be taken for granted and we’d be lucky to win both of those in succession. Points are going to be dropped though late on in the season is always going to prove costly.

15th September 2019 at 10:04 am #47550AnonymousChelseaman. Donβt get too carried away, our defence is shocking. Canβt keep a clean sheet for love nor money. There hasnt been an improvement in it yet five games into the season. Whatever you say about sarri, we were much better organised defensively with and without the ball.
We are also defending from the front, something sarri was good at.
The last three games we had to win if you have pretentious of top four. We will struggle against well drilled and organised sides, because at the minute weβre more arsenal defending (sorry Stevo) and more than capable of throwing leads and games away.
Frank Lampard the attacking coach. 8/10 so far. Defensively, Iβve not seen a worse organised side in about 20 years play in blue at the bridge.

15th September 2019 at 10:10 am #47551AnonymousIn my haste to post last night before going out I forgot to mention Liverpool, I’ve watched them again this morning and they are some side and fully deserve to be top and 5 points clear. Will they finally win the PL? I think they will this season with City a point or two behind , probably the kiss of death ,sorry lads. After those 2 it’s anybody’s guess, there’s not a lot between Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs .

15th September 2019 at 11:19 am #47552Mak, that’s just it though mate. I do think about the ‘what ifs’.
60+ games a season I wouldn’t expect from Van Dijk. He is strong as an Ox, but like any other player, he needs to recovery time.
We do need more of Gomez as he is tops. When it comes to the EFL and the FA, I think it’s already been instructed by our owners to prioritize the League and play out our squad depth. I’d like to see Lallana come in and Shaqs. Hopefully too, Naby Keita is fully fit, but Gomez should certainly be involved.

Foden still not starting games which is understandable considering players they have. Maybe a loan move will do h

15th September 2019 at 12:29 pm #47554442, You do realise that i have expressed the same concerns as the one you mentioned in my post. and i said we are not yet ready for the battle of top 4. however Roma wasn’t built in one day. each day that passes the team seems to be heading in the right direction. first we discovered what Mount could do, then Abraham came to the fold, and now Tomori has announced himself. i have my concerns about Zouma and Azpi. and make no mistake Azpi is my favorite player. but yesterday he was fine didn’t put a foot wrong but didn’t pull trees also. we can’t sort our problems in one day, and i have to say Lampard has exceeded my expectations at this stage.
During Conte’s last season and Sarri’s sole season at the club, our biggest problem was goal scoring. we had been the least scorers in the top 6. now goals are flowing under Lampard. but defensively we look more vulnerable. one of that is down to the fact that we have lost Kante in the middle of the park, and you see how teams easily reach our back four, also we were deprived off the services of some experienced players, for instance Rudiger returned yesterday only to go off injured. and the experience of David Luiz was massive loss. but credit to the young lads who stepped up. guys like Tomori and Christensen players with a whole career ahead of them. also if Zouma can recapture his old form, he will be a beast.
Also, i was surprised with the performance of Alonso yesterday. that wingback role suits him more than the fullback role. he has now given Lampard a headache. even Willian despite his lack of match fitness had worked his socks off. and if he can play to his strengths, we will have a player with skill and experience.
For sure there are issues at the back, but we are moving in the right direction with all these young players replacing Hazard one of the best players in the world. losing experienced players and replacing them with younger one will take time to come good. but i’m surprised, i wasn’t expecting this performance.

15th September 2019 at 12:30 pm #47555AnonymousSean, I thought the Utd win was a surprise but I know I’m in the minority there. Bricks, don’t get us excited yet man π
I saw a crazy stat yesterday and couldn’t believe it but apparently it’s true. Mane has never lost at Anfield in the PL. …. WHAT?
I say this now but I know I’ll change my mind on the night but I don’t really care about the Napoli game right this minute. I kinda wish we weren’t starting the CL so soon TBH and would rather another PL fixture. Not that I’m looking forward to Chelsea away, in the form they are in. I’m not getting ahead of myself, as I remember how much trouble they gave us in the Super Cup and well… just look at Abraham, the guy is unplayable right now. I guess we’ve got to play Chelsea away some time and it’s likely that they will continue in a good vein from here, generally, so we might as well get the match out of the way.
If I were Klopp, I’d have these potential 3 points in mind for when he draws up the teamsheet for the CL opener. We don’t have to rest a load of players but we’ve got quality who haven’t gotten much play-time so far. I say swap out 2-3 lads. Gomez for me as to be the first change made. The sharper he is, the better a job he can do for us if we need him to step in. Nil, I wouldn’t bother with the domestic cups either… I mean, I think our squad can do the job but we need to heavily prioritize the PL and CL, like last season. I’d like to see Brewster get some time in the Napoli game also. I was confident of him making a splash in the PL this season but instead the other teams are doing it with their young stars. No big deal , as long as we get our 3 points without injuries.

15th September 2019 at 12:40 pm #47557Old Trafford was what Anfield has become in recent times. I think there’s a strong Aura/Spirit about us when we play at home and even when we’re in a losing position.

15th September 2019 at 1:14 pm #47558Tba, I’ve been taking a bit of break from the site for a couple of weeks and we’re still down in sunny Cornwall now and not getting back until tomorrow although I’ve looked in a couple of times.
CL you ask? I wouldn’t write it completely off although I would be more than happy for a top 6 place this season given all of the circumstances.
The Ed rightly points out to new Manager bounce and Frank suffering a bit of a possible Ole collapse later on in the season and I wouldn’t write that off either.
Very good win yesterday though not many teams go to Wolves and win let alone put 5 goals past them.
We need to stop giving silly goals away but on the positive side for Frank he still has Rudiger to properly come back he only managed 45 minutes yesterday, he is still awaiting the return of Kante, Emerson was out yesterday and James is just beginning to return to fitness all of whom should help quell some of the current defensive errors.
Additionally Frank still has Loftus Cheek and Hudson Odoi to return and the transfer ban will be over in either January or next Summer and Frank is currently sitting on a very healthy war chest.
When all those stars align Chelsea fans might be able to start dreaming again!?
Hope the recovery is going well buddie take care. Cheers 9’s

15th September 2019 at 1:42 pm #47560AnonymousNil, that’s definitely true. The Liverpool lads will know all about how incredibly nervous our crowds could get, usually triggered by a mistake or a good goal. I myself would get these feelings of “oh here we go again” but I just don’t witness this kind of extreme over-reaction gasping anymore. Now I guess it’s more normal. The team have time and time again, shown that they are mentally strong enough to hold firm or come back and get the result. Like anxiety, confidence and steel is self-sustaining.

It needs more than a Managerial change. Arsenal and Aubameyang not even out of 2nd gear.

15th September 2019 at 6:48 pm #47568Very silly from Guardiola to go personal against Liverpool. it was uncalled for, which suggests like the rest he is nervous about Liverpool’s devastating form. but to congratulate Liverpool after 5 games shows that he was rattled early. the mind games are working effectively for Liverpool.
