Not sure how that ended 2-2 or 11 vs 11, annoyed we gave up a 2 goal lead, but I think that was about even stevens in the end. Spuds could have had one or two more in the first half, Goonies could have had one or two more in the 2nd half…
Was hoping to reach the “break” with 6 points, expecting loses against both City and Goonies in our 2 away games, makes the Castle game extra double annoying!!
At least my Spuds looked a bit more back to normal this game…
Interesting on my TV, they’re showing the Boomerang peno which was given at Wembly last year, identical the peno Sir Harry didn’t get in the 92nd minute just now (for the record, neither was a pen in my book!)

1st September 2019 at 6:36 pm #46890AnonymousIt was very frustrating watching Arsenal in the last 5 – 8 mins. Absolutely no offense to steveo or any other arsenal fans that may read this and to be clear I was going for arsenal. Its just that they had no heart whatsoever.
I think with a bit morr character, theu get that 3rd goal but after they had the goal rightly disallowed, they slowly deflated to this… pit of annoyance.
I was quite vocal watching the throw in at the death… what was he thinking?!?
Before that of course, arswnal players weren’t giving their all in 50 50s. They werent giving the man on the ball options by finding space. They have a long ways to go.
Adlab, youve spoken a few times about how you expect more from burnley… you just dont want to give liverpool credit and do this by taking away from their opponents.. this is jusy unfair as burnley proved to be challenging in spells but Liverpool are just way ahead of them in terms of quality.
You dont have to come on here patting ua on the back but you could be more honest about it.

1st September 2019 at 7:13 pm #46894AnonymousLucky, you and I have a track record of going at each other on the old forum.
I got so very tired by the passive aggression on there by you and a few others I left it behind a long time ago and came here.
Enjoy

1st September 2019 at 7:29 pm #46895Sorry 442, I dont remember you mate. But going at each other sounds like a two-way thing to me, so why you want to hold it against me I dont know when we could just be adults and move on. I am sorry you feel this way, but it has nothing to do with what we discussed today, I believe I was perfectly polite in my posts, and also that you were needlessly inflammatory and disrespectful towards fellow chelsea fans in the initial post I responded to.

1st September 2019 at 9:19 pm #46898AnonymousLucky – I am allowed to hold an opinion about Chelsea, its fans, their behaviour as a fellow Chelsea fan. If you deem it to be inflammatory or disrespectful, the offence is sadly yours and only yours to deal with. Hence why you’re now trying to dig me out on this forum for having different opinion to you.
I picked up a passive aggressive tone to your writing that ive been on the end of before on TT with you and a few others, Ive moved on and into here where I enjoy reading the light banter and silly posts from different fans of other teams. They, like you, can agree or disagree with what I post. To date, no one has responded to me like you have, or called any of my posts inflammatory or disrespectful. 😉
Not holding a grudge, I’m simply nipping any more agro in the bud and agreeing to disagree. Enjoy the season, I am despite its frustrations. and do remember, We see things differently.

1st September 2019 at 10:08 pm #46901Brian,
I did a little fact finding, inspired by both the chat about Fernandinho and then watching Xhaka today, found a decent source here https://www.premierleague.com/stats/top/players/fouls and searched by filtering for fouls committed by midfielders.
Turns out Fernandinho is 17th in list of top fouling midfielders (not just defensive mids, includes eriksen and de bruyne etc), with 40 fouls committed which could simply be read as he commits at least one foul per game.
What I find interesting about the list of 16 players that committed more fouls than him is that the aforementioned Xhaka and also pogba are the only players above him who play for teams in the top 6 last year.
I think it makes sense that the better the team, and the more of the ball your team has, the less tackles are needed to be attempted, and the less fouls should be made.
Interesting then that the team with the greatest ability to keep the ball and who have less attempted tackles has a midfielder who commits more fouls than any other of the defensive mids in the top 6 bar Xhaka (who is there because he is terrible and cant tackle) or Pogba who is there because he cant tackle either and is trying to be a whole midfield in one for utd. Man city were 20th in tackles made last year according to the prem league site which suggests their midfielders would be expected to make fewer fouls.
for comparisons, kante made 35 fouls last year but is understandable as makes high attempted tackles, number of successful tackles was 74. In comparison to this fernadinho’s 40 fouls looks disproportionate next to his number of successful tackles, 57.
Some other top 6 defensive mids for comparison (didnt use spurs players as their defensive mids did not play comparable number of games they seemed to rotate a lot)
*** fouls ***** successful tackles ***** Ratio of good tackles/fouls
Fabinho 29 ***** 59 ***** 2.03
Henderson 26 ***** 46 ***** 1.77
Matic 27 ***** 50 ***** 1.85
Jorginho 33 ***** 76 ***** 2.3
Torreira 38 ***** 65 ***** 1.71
Xhaka 45 ***** 52 ***** 1.16
Fernandinho 40 ***** 57 ***** 1.43What the ratio on right represents is how many successful tackles are made per foul, as you can see with exception of the truly dreadful Xhaka, Fernandinho scores lowest here and pretty much averages at 2 fouls to every 3 fair tackles.
What surprised me about this considering the context of the discussion is jorginho having the “best” numbers on paper here, who makes over twice as many good challenges as he does bad.
I know this has probably bored the life out of all who have read it but it fernandinho’s numbers make sense to me in terms of his reputation.
He does attempt less tackles than most because he doesnt need to tackle as much as most. BUT because of the way city play and the numbers they get forward, when he does have to tackle, he really has to tackle. Unlike Jorginho who often passes off an attacker to a team mate rather than always have to commit to difficult challenges, Fernandinho has to be decisive. He either takes the ball or the man, but by hook or by crook that counter has to be stopped.
It is professional fouling, and on further reflection Brian I dont think it is unfair that he has the reputation as a professional fouler.
All that being said I would take him at chelsea in a flash, even now. I think he is the best in the league at what he does, and what he does is priceless.

1st September 2019 at 10:38 pm #46903442, Can you please point out where I claimed you were not allowed to have an opinion on chelsea fans? It really annoys me when people respond to arguments that way, it is just pointless. Arguing against your opinion is not denying it 442, and if you claim an argument is stupid dont be surprised if those that disagree debate it with you, thats what it is about right?
Also why say “we see things differently” as though that it is supposed to surprise or enlighten me? I know we and most here see things differently which is why I engage in conversations and ask questions like “what would you do to tighten things up defensively if its not playing Kante deeper?” Because I know there will be other opinions and iseas that I cant think of and I want to know of them.
Like I said, all my posts to you since your initial post @11:10am have been fine, the only excuse for you treating me like this is that you are indeed holding a grudge, so you can shove your last paragraph where the sun dont shine because you are lying.
What was your name on old forum anyway, was it 442? Cant remember you at all. Only Chelsea fan I really got in to heated argument with was Ashcfc that I can remember, but who hasnt argued with him!? Oh and the wise one, of course, but again who hasnt argued with him?

2nd September 2019 at 7:09 am #46908will start with united game as i watched that first….poor looking united team, played well first half and James looks like a rare ray of sunshine for united…second half though Southamton should have won the game, their CB is immense and was thinking why we never went for him, great defender and scored their goal…united do look shakey as does Ole, Greenwood only 8 mins to make a difference when they were down to 10..? Lingard? pretty sure liongard stopped more of uniteds attacks than the southampton defense did!!
now for the big one
we were robbed ROBBED i tells you!! (my not being able to defend!)
crazy game, gifted them the first with poor keeping then the keeper makes some blinders! Spuds ran out of steam second half and i think our 3rd goal that was offside took a little wind out of our sails but we still pushed till the end. i guess the result was fair but after the comeback i was gutted not to take the win…Pepe really does look good and i thik once he scores it will click for him and he will step up another level….PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE can we buy defender nesxt summer!!! if we could defend we would be dangerous!
Xhaka, absolute liability! shouldnt be near the first team, maybe we could swap him for wee Erik 😉

2nd September 2019 at 8:13 am #46909Hard to argue with any of that, Buffy, a game of two halfs… had to admit I thought your lot were going to win it in the end…
Moving forward, I hope Poncho has a trick up his sleeve for RB, Sanchez is not a full-back at all. Spuds might have done better by simply playing a back 3 and chucking on Lucas to run at the Goonie’s rear guard…

2nd September 2019 at 8:14 am #46910A lot of talk before the season started was that the gap between 2nd and 3rd would be much closer this season but although it’s still very early I’ve not seen anything to suggest that will be the case. City and Liverpool look out on their own compared to the other “big six”.
For 3rd and 4th I cant separate spurs, arsenal and chelsea at the moment. Utd look off the pace, read somewhere that there form since the honeymoon period is that of a bottom half team which must be worrying for their supporters.
Did enjoy the North London derby yesterday, great entertainment for the neutral.

2nd September 2019 at 8:25 am #46911I still fancy us for 3rd to be honest, we’re not even closing to clicking at the moment, the new signings haven’t had a crack yet, and hopefully all the nonsense going on with the window should now be over with. A little breather, even if we do have Palace and Foxes for our next two games and they’re both on a bit of a roll at the moment.
