Yeah Ed he just come back from injury and never played a minute at this level before today. Liked his movement, decent pace but probably will show more of that when he is match fit.
It’s such a big ask for any number 9 at a top club these days. As you say, so much pressure and no easy opposition really.
Problem for you is with rashford and Anthony as the wide men, will he get the service he needs? Sure Ten Haag will sort that out one way or another.

3rd September 2023 at 7:03 pm #209268HΓΈjlund looks very promising. Big, strong, quick and has a good touch. He was a proper handful for the Arsenal centre backs.
Gutting to lose, thought we deserved at least a point.
Need Armabat in midfield for some energy.

3rd September 2023 at 7:06 pm #209269What I find strange – given the modern fashion of attacking football now, quite a few of the big teams still lack top quality attacking players. Man Utd, Chelsea, Newcastle (if you can include them now). I’d even say Arsenal still lack a world class striker.
There’s a reason why City and Liverpool are being talked about as the two best so far – they have the two of the best attacks in the league.

3rd September 2023 at 7:11 pm #209271Yes mikus but if you can spot and recruit top attackers you would be worth millions π
Its obviously difficult, especially for top clubs who regularly encounter low block teams who are playing only for counters and set pieces. Many a striker looks great playing for the underdog and exploiting space, only a few can be effective when there is no space.
Takes special players with special coaches. City and pool have both.

3rd September 2023 at 7:20 pm #209272I think Hojlund will get plenty of service through the middle though Lucky. Fernandes is one of the best chance creators in the league. Shaw delivers a good ball too if he’s allowed to bomb on and is not inverting or filling in at CB.

3rd September 2023 at 7:23 pm #209273That’s the thing Lukcy. Someone like Osimhen would have probably cost Β£150mil this summer. You’ve then the difficulty now of competition from the Saudi teams. Liverpool have a good attack now but even they’ve spent a ton on money on Nunez who the manager doesn’t seem to know if he trusts or not. I dontthink Cody Gakpo is top class either. A good, steady forward but nothing more.

3rd September 2023 at 7:28 pm #209274Yeah that’s true Ed, and rashford could probably create by running to byeline and cutting back, almost did that for Hojlund today.
Ultimately if the wingers just create space with good movement, Hojlund looks like the kind of player who will be quick to move in to it, so good distribution from central areas as you say could be key too.
One thing in his advantage is that often teams will block centre and allow utd the ball wide, with Hojlund at least you have a target to hit in these situations.
We greatly miss it at Chelsea. If we had a Giroud for example, I think we would be so much better for it.

3rd September 2023 at 7:31 pm #209275I do love Osimhen Ed but you are right, almost out of reach for everyone, not just because of transfer fee alone, but also the wages he will be able to demand.

3rd September 2023 at 7:33 pm #209276Yes exactly and a lot of teams go man to man now so you absolutely have to have height, hence Havertz at Arsenal and more so Haaland at City. Going long for the big man has come back into fashion again. There were some good Tifo videos about it. Before Hojlund, we completely lacked a physical presence to take advantage of Onana’s excellent ability to pick a pass.

Manchester United fans should hold their head up high.
United went to the Emirates with an injury-stricken squad which got worse mid-game but still took control away from Arsenal for large periods. Not only that, but they were an inch away from winning via Garnacho.
Patience…

3rd September 2023 at 7:42 pm #209281Mikus, that’s because those teams you mentioned need a nucleus of players to begin with. That’s all the main playing positions too. Arsenal now seem established, but you’re right in highlighting they don’t have an old-fashion target man, ala the example of Ian Wright.
Maybe it’s the way these teams are set up too.
Plus, if you keep on chopping and changing all the time, then you’re not allowing organically time for the players to gel and get to know each other.

3rd September 2023 at 8:01 pm #209282Arteta really is a strange individual π. Most annoying manager on the touchline and talks some absolute rubbish at times. This is up there with him playing YNWA over loud speakers to prepare his team for going to Anfield.
Arteta: βI said to Havertz: things are hard at the beginning. When I met my wife, at the beginning it was hard to conquer her. It was hard, I had to try and message her, and go, and goβ. π΄βͺοΈ #AFC

3rd September 2023 at 8:13 pm #209284I’m with Micah on this. This also applies to outfield players. Man U have changed personnel far too frequent in my view. No wonder consistency is not there.
