Commiserations Ed I missed the game cos I’ve been taking in the sun on the Costa del Somerset.
Like you I think United have put themselves in a uneccessary difficult place and I think Ole needs to forget trying to recreate the 1990’s and the Fergie years it’s not possible now imo and football has moved on United need a good summer transfer window and hopefully for you things gel from there.
Worryingly I read in the paper today that Ole wants to make limited signings in order to bring through the United youth a la Fergie an admirable objective but fraught with danger imo.
Personally I would like to see a strong United side competing at the top of the table with City and Liverpool again but you wonder when that might be and whether Ole will still be the Manager then. Cheers 999

21st April 2019 at 4:10 pm #38410AnonymousOh you absolutely are and likely will, Adlab. Who knows, maybe you’ll see the arrogance back, battering the remaining teams. Obviously I hope not but.. We have got to hope that something goes wrong.

21st April 2019 at 4:15 pm #38411Chucky, as I’ve said many times, Spurs have done some very good business in the transfer market. We’ve spent loads of money and terribly. But that doesn’t change the fact that Poch has had a lot of money to spend and spent it pretty well. I’m not going to praise Poch for having a squad that “didn’t cost a lot” when he basically inherited the best striker in the world who cost nothing and a very good team of players who were all bought for a decent amount. I’ve never once criticised Spurs transfer policy which is very good. But giving Poch credit for the transfer policy? Not sure about that. All down to Levy IMO who is a very good negotiator.
Looking at squad cost merely measures how good a club is at transfer policy. The fact is that Spurs have a squad which is probably the third best in the league. More than likely, they’ll finish third…
Here is a link that looks at how much each squad is roughly valued at in current market value. A much more accurate figure in terms of determining what resources each manager has to work with (in terms of squad quality)

21st April 2019 at 4:16 pm #38412What an embarrassment against Everton. Ever since OGS was announced as the permanent manager it’s all gone tits up. I must admit I was one of those who were blinded by his great start and history with the club and wanted him to get a shot at managing the club.
Now I think he’s a dead man walking. United really has become a poisoned chalice it seems.

21st April 2019 at 4:24 pm #38415Don’t get that at all Eddy, what the squad is “estimated” to be worth??? What does that prove? If anything, it proves how brilliant Poncho is spending 300m to put together a squad that cost 241 million that’s now worth 740 odd million!! 🙂

21st April 2019 at 4:32 pm #38419And you’ve every right to come to that conclusion Chucky. Personally, I think the days of praising managers for a club’s transfer policy are long gone. So many people now involved in buying and selling players and a manager is most often a head coach now.
Few would disagree with the fact that Spurs have the 3rd or 4th best squad in the league. That’s also where they’ll finish, 3rd or 4th. It’s hardly the stuff of miracles. That’s not to take away though from the fact that Spurs have clearly bought and sold very well the lest few years and not had the misfortune of losing any top players. Even Wenger lost one of his best players every year and kept getting top 4 like Poch, although got the odd trophy, unlike Poch.

21st April 2019 at 4:48 pm #38427Just admit you want Poncho and we can let this one go… 🙂
So, who would be next? I really can’t see past Allegri, to be honest (or Poncho! 🙂 )

21st April 2019 at 4:50 pm #38429A first half where Cardiff basically nullified us. We turned it around last week versus Chelsea and I’m sure chances will be created in the second. Might need to change the 11 a little bit, can’t afford to drop points.

21st April 2019 at 4:55 pm #38432Ok I admit it. POCH IN!!! ?
I think it will be Allegri. I imagine we’ll see a cautious summer window now from Utd. In some ways, I hope what Nine suggested is true because I’d be a bit worried about giving Ole tons of money to spend. A bit like the Di Matteo situation, we now HAVE TO give Ole chance to start the new season and then it’s just a matter of time it feels.
Important thing now is to get the right person into the DOF role and start scouring the planet for a coach that can do the job.
