I think we all have to accept that South American players will always gravitate towards Real and Barca and that both club’s particularly Real are considered by the majority of players and certainly South American players to be the best there are.
I have enjoyed watching Eden Hazard play for Chelsea for 6 seasons now and I’ve been lucky enough to see him up close and personal and witness his unique qualities with the ball at his feet and it’s been a real pleasure and he will always be a Chelsea great up alongside of the greatest like Zola, Osgood and Cooke all of whom could do incredible things with the ball at their feet.
I will obviously be sad to see Hazard go to Real as looks most likely but I won’t begrudge him his move it’s been his ambition to play for Real the club he supported as a boy ever since he was kicking a ball at the Garage door.
Personally I don’t judge Chelsea players based on where they come from out of choice I would love to see a Chelsea team packed full of English born Academy players but that’s no longer realistic and we all want to see the best players in our teams no matter where they come from.
On the Champions League it was an impossible dream and whether Chelsea are competing in it or not it’s the best club competition in the World the only shame is that quest to play in it has relegated the FA Cup the world’s oldest Cup competition to an also ran.

Based on your first point, doesn’t that boil down to ‘home comforts’ and culture?
From a single blokes point of view, putting the ‘financial package’ to one side, there must be something too that attracts them to want to play in England, initially?
I’d like to make the point too on this subject that we’ve historically placed ourselves as inferior rather than placing the Union Jack and being proud as a nation. Even so too our top flight league more than ever to be a money-making ‘commodity’.
The issue for me wanting to build something and longevity is the growing fear in trying to hold on to someone once his head has been turned.
As far as I believe only examples in Ryan Giggs, Steven Gerrard and John Terry have resisted to move abroad.
Nine, you’ve done exceptionally well out of Hazard mate.
Cheers Gents
