11th March 2018 at 5:15 pm #17790I always try to show respect to every poster in any forum that i visit. i have no problem in people showing their dissent towards my opinion. and i’m not right always. but what i like is things to be kept respectfully. there was one incident that has discouraged me from going and contributing regularly at the Team talk Genral site. Footydebate was the first place that i went and seek comfort. and i have to say its a wonderful site run by a wonderful editor, and in footydebate we have a wonderful group of posters. with that said after a period of reflection i have taken back my decision and will continue to be in the site. thanks for your support. as for Paxton, i have no ill feeling to wards you. its good to show respect to another other. and i stand by that.

11th March 2018 at 5:43 pm #17794Spurs a little bit lucky, Son’s goal marginally off side and Bournmouth equaliser ruled out for a marginal push on Sanchez. Fine margins

11th March 2018 at 5:51 pm #17798Suspected ankle ligament injury for Kane which depending how bad it is may keep Kane out for 6 to 8 weeks. Not good news for Spurs if that’s how it works out but he should be ok for England.

11th March 2018 at 9:02 pm #17813Jim, he did mate and I guess it depends on what the scans show Kane has suffered from the same injury previously and it kept him out for circa 8 weeks.
Can only wish him a quick recovery just not within two weeks.?

11th March 2018 at 9:12 pm #17814Sean, Spurs are much more than just a Harry Kane team but the stats show Spurs are better with Kane in the team than not. 58.6 % win percentage with v 50 without and 2.2 goals per game with v 1.6 per game without according to Sky Sports.

11th March 2018 at 9:32 pm #17815C Man, good to see you back on here and hope you keep posting.
I was just thinking back to my post on this particular thread earlier today about preciousness and from what’s come about from the Spurs win leaving us now in 4th position.
I just feel as far as the mindset and the attitudes go, some fans (me included to a degree) that qualifying for the Champions League means the prospect of better players coming to or ‘filtering’ to clubs in England.
We know as underlying, money talks a great deal not to mention Agent influence. Something earlier Danny Kelly’s programme tonight re Talksport making on a sort of a trivial level how the last English player or players to play for Barcelona were Mark Hughes and Gary Lineker.
Haha, now that effectively was a another generation ago. Why we don’t seem to be able to produce through our academies more English players I don’t know. We might not then have this ‘scaremongering’ of players not wanting to join us from another continent because we’re not involved in the Champions League.
Money is a double-edged sword and whilst it of course enriches a club financially to go onto better things, there is also a hindrance and that being trophies ala both the FA and the League Cup are not taking as seriously.
I refer to my own club. Yes, I’d like us to finish second and as strongly as possible for THAT very reason, and in all honesty too, I’d like for us to push all the way to the final of the European Cup.
Otherwise just clinching 4th even though it genuinely is a tough battle given the competition of 5/6 capable teams in my eyes isn’t really an achievement to be proud of year in year out.
There are no trophies rewarded and it stipulates nothing in the history books or actual representation of Honours.

I don’t think Champions league qualification alone is enough to sway players decision these days. its only a small fraction. nowadays the Salary at hand, the climate of the City and the position you play on players hold the key. that is why players will always choose Spain over England. prestige aside, several factors dictate players joining a club. and i have also forgotten the families are big part of the players settling a certain location. for instance Di Maria could settle at United because his wife couldn’t settle at the City. you now have Courtois wanting to return to Madrid, Costa wanting back to Madrid.

11th March 2018 at 10:19 pm #17819C Man,
I’m happy to accept that prerogative from players when deciding on their move. I rather we had somebody in our team that’s committed than just quite simply a journeyman.
The point is that to me, based on attitudes of some fanatics, qualifying for the Champions League is the be-all-end-all, if you can’t win the league, and when it comes to shopping for players, EVERY club heads in the same direction being Europe.
There are very little homegrown players nurtured and very little to take a punt from somebody from a lower league club or Scotland.
Everything for the last 20+ plus years has hinged on signing a player from Europe.
As far as recent history goes, clubs in England are sort of used as a stepping stone, so as soon as Barcelona or Real show a glimmer of interest, that is game over.

Again there is this issue. ok a player may want play for a certain club in a certain City. but his family fails to settle in that city. will the player stay and sacrifice his family happiness? i think it may be no. nowadays players wives has more influence than their agents even. and that is why clubs are always in trouble unless they are Barcelona or Real Madrid.
