Well, we’ve at least maintained our good record at home. Why the team fails to perform away from home needs analysis. Yes obviously some teams sit back at Anfield, but it still doesn’t say much of the character in it if it disappears when away.

9th April 2023 at 6:50 pm #206057Apart from all the other characteristics Mikus we have expressed time and time again on here in fight, guts, belief, confidence and so on, we need to employ the right system with the right players promoting stability and structure.
Pep has adapted and changed things. Unfortunately criticism has to fall on our beloved Jurgen Klopp for not doing the same. We’re still predictable going forward with every other attacking channeling from the left hand side.

9th April 2023 at 6:53 pm #206058It’s not character, it’s tactics and more specifically intensity. The change does not suit our players and it has shown. The few times we have shown it we look a different team.
All the signings in the world won’t make a huge difference if the set up is wrong in the first place.

9th April 2023 at 6:55 pm #206060We know the well talked about issue of the defence and the midfield. Thing us, weve bought some forwards in recently and bar the established Salah, I don’t see any of them who can *guarantee* goals. But I doubt we’ll be bringing in any more forwards in summer.

9th April 2023 at 7:00 pm #206061Not entirely sure they were the right forwards. Said it at the time and still unconvinced. Gakpo maybe as the false 9 but was he bought for that or is a make do? And where does Nunez fit when everyone is available? Expensive bench warmer.

9th April 2023 at 7:14 pm #2060623 ps, we won’t be able to exercise our full compliment of players playing 4-3-3. Our midfield first up is doldrums. Gakpo can make things happen both the middle and up the top. There is this idea of moving Trent in the middle. What about formations 4-4-2 or 4-2-4?
We need alternatives and to be adaptable but that ultimately needs to be licensed from our management team. We need more variety in our attack and be able to create passages of play from different areas of the pitch.

9th April 2023 at 7:17 pm #206063Nil, please explain how the press works in a 442 or 424? Its not as simple as dropping players in that can fit into a formation. This makes me laugh when one in particular LFC fan keeps banging the 4231 drum without ever explaining how the press works or what he would do to create a successful defensive unit.

9th April 2023 at 8:01 pm #2060643ps, copied and pasted:
The 4-4-2 offers a strong defensive presence across the entire pitch, with compactness, balance and cover easy to establish in a high press, mid-block or low block. Finally, it also provides the perfect balance for counter-attacking football.

9th April 2023 at 8:07 pm #2060653ps, I would counter argue that our current system in insistence has failed us miserably. Nearly 10 defeats today whichever way you want to look at it.
I don’t know why you keep using the word ‘Press’. It’s a fashionable term. Liverpool have always ‘pressed’ it’s in our nature be it the 70s, 80s, 90s. We’re just not constantly at 100 miles an hour and this is where Klopp falls short because he is burning players out. All these training regimes too behind the scenes. We’ve always attacked even under Rafa, even under Souness.
Our Ball retention, patience and possession has lacked. 4-3-3 doesn’t work for us as our front 3 was dismantled losing Mane. Nunez still for me is raw. The midfield 3 is out of touch and needs an overhaul.

9th April 2023 at 9:29 pm #206066Sorry Nil but it’s not a fashionable term and if you cannot understand I am not going to waste time explaining it and the issues it causes to our team. Go on with your cicra 1995 442 🤣

9th April 2023 at 9:56 pm #2060673ps, cool mate. I’m not going to argue and it’s not worth my time either or the hassle that comes with it if you’re not prepared to exercise an breakdown.
It was Roy Evans’ 3-5-2 middle 1990s. Personally, I’m a fan of varied formations and one the can shoe horn our strongest players. It’s risky yes, but bold, brave, and ambitious. He who dares wins.

9th April 2023 at 9:58 pm #206069We’ve always attacked and pressed. Gegen-pressing is just something adopted as an exclusive when it’s not.

10th April 2023 at 11:25 am #206073Peculiar to say the least; an official elbowing a player. Both in professional capacity and perhaps summing up of late the current relationship.
We need reinforcements because this is unacceptable. Paul Tierney in my view is one of the worse. Howard Webb is no better so that’s the first set of problems that need ironing out; a better standard of officials.
If it’s criminal for a player to approach and reach out to an official in querying something, then we have a problem. A big baby or not.

10th April 2023 at 12:36 pm #206074I don’t know how long we would have survived as a species if we didn’t evolve the reflex to hit out when being approached from behind by an angry Scotsmen.

10th April 2023 at 1:21 pm #206075A slightly strange turn after the Jesse Marsch move collapses, though I guess staying up now the priority.
🚨 Understand Leicester have opened talks with Rafa Benitez as potential new head coach to replace Brendan Rodgers.
Negotiations ongoing trying to find an agreement with the Spanish coach.
Jesse Marsch option, definitely off. 🔵 #LCFC pic.twitter.com/3K6F7DUKsh

10th April 2023 at 2:29 pm #206078Marsch doesn’t want the job. Probably avoiding another slap in the face. Rafa is more thick-skinned and can get the players to tow the line, plus coach them technically. We have clearly a dearth of managers if we’re turning our heads time and time again when in search to the same faces.
