True about Ten Hag and his lack of pattern of play. But I cannot remember a United manager since Ferguson who successfully instilled his style of play.
Look at how Ragnick struggled to deploy his tactics for United compared to what he is done at Austria.
Players need to take responsibility too.

1st September 2024 at 7:21 pm #215500Which is why managers at big clubs need to have charisma. The school teacher approach wonβt cut it in that environment.

1st September 2024 at 7:41 pm #215501I believe it is down to lack of leadership on the playing side more than charisma. That is why you see a difference with Ragnick when you compare his tenures at United and Austria.
Part of the reason Ferguson was successful is because of the amount of leaders he had in the squad. Slot has walked in to a side full of leaders, so did Pep.
When Ten Hag took over, who were the leaders?

1st September 2024 at 8:23 pm #215503Absolutely delighted with today. Just wish Zobo didn’t mess around with the ball like he did which was a tad mick-take. We could have finished Top. Early Early doors and things can change within 2/3 results.
Always good to get points early in the bag though whilst the squad is effectively fully-fit and we’re trading in a summery/autumn season.
Played this time round with more authority and purpose. Slot-ball I think means keeping the ball flowing and finding the net, first time in asking.

2nd September 2024 at 7:21 am #215504Eth should have left utd in the summer on gis own accord when it was clear the utd board wanted him out. I think he will be supported for a few more months but he was treated terribly in the summer.

2nd September 2024 at 8:08 am #215505One thing is for sure, when Shaw and Holjund are back after the international break, and Ugarte available, if things don’t improve he will be gone. The run of games should not be beyond them and it will only be Yoro and Mount out injured.

2nd September 2024 at 9:01 am #215506He won’t be gone for until Christmas at the very earliest. All good managers are in jobs. Admittedly there wasn’t a great amount available in the summer but that was the time utd needed to change, and having passed on that opportunity they should look again if needs be next summer. An interim manager again won’t do them any good. Keep with Ten Hag and get someone like Amorim next year.
Speaking of which, maybe an unpopular opinion but I think Utd would have been in a better place today if they kept Rangnick and listened to him and his choice of player.

2nd September 2024 at 9:29 am #215508I see the same tripe churned once again on Sky between Neville, Carra, Keane. It’s the same every single year; Manager-owners-players. Now the latest deep-dive is Van-Nistelrooy and the culture.
You need to lay foundations and rebuild properly from the back; formulate and establish a good 11, stick with it and layer it. You have to decide above all whether Ten-Hag is for you long-term or whether you want to part company.
Gets boring and tiring time and time again, especially when the discussions are on the back of Liverpool-United matches.

I have to disagree. Ten Hag has had more funding than any manager since Ferguson. He has been allowed to change his backrooms staff and so on. No club would have stuck by him by now.
The only thing you cannot blame him on is the mess he walked in to. Rashford is a disgrace. You can tell he has thrown his toys out of the pram because of the way his pal Sancho has been treated. Pogba use to do the same. Due to him having this lucrative contract, he thinks he is better than what he actually is.

2nd September 2024 at 11:49 am #215510Ye fair points cm. You would know the situation better than me.
Hes talking some amount of rubbish these days which usually shows a manager is losing the plot.

3rd September 2024 at 11:08 am #215511Alfie, shaw is a massive loss. Hes the best left in the league when fully fit. Just injured far to much and him and rashford link up really well. Hes a class player.
Ugarte ive only seen him play a few times but seems highly rated. Im really not sure on hjlund. Great attitude but is he going to get 20+ goal a season?
Not having a go or being harsh but utd fans are accepting mediocre players and painting them as really good. Liverpool fans did it for years with certain players
Martinez is loved as people see him as some warrior. I just dont get it at all. Lovely left foot but his passing has been atrocious this season. I wouldnt have him in the top 5 defenders in the league. Ed says when he plays he suits utds style. Utd have no style. Their is no identity to it. He was Dreadful for diaz 2nd goal in sunday. His defending is poor , drop the shoulder and hes done. Utd fans hailed maguire as a top class defender when he was signed for 80m. He was as average as they cone and over hyped
Top class defenders make a difference like saliba at arsenal. Martinez played in a defence that conceded 50 goals in his first season. He was injured all last year and been terrible so far
I just dont get him. Just my opinion though

3rd September 2024 at 3:05 pm #215513The thing with Hojlund is that if the main striker doesn’t get the goals ETH can have no complaints, he has has two seasons to bed Hojlund in and he now has also brought Zirkzee. So, to me, it’s not really if Hojlund gets them or not, ETH has had plenty of time and money to sort it.
Shaw is class, and that is our issue. Do you really replace him when we have so many other areas to improve? Fair enough you can say ETH should be more ruthless, but that only really rings true if you don’t bring in 4-5 first team players in one window. If someone else comes in and brings in, say three big signings I would expect Shaw to be replaced – especially if he carries on with his injuries as he is going.
Martinez – all about opinions mate. He can be shit and our best CB! Though fans like his style and the fact he gets stuck in. I think he will settle down this season as it goes on. He plays quite a high line, as he is always having a dig at the forward so he likes to play on the front foot and that always goes down well with fans.
I think the issue surrounding Utd now is that a lot of people will say they are complete rubbish, and the criticism seems over the top. They are clearly not great, but on their day they can beat the best teams in the PL. They have also won more when being terrible than most over teams have in their best periods for years. I think the fact we have wone more than most recently really grates on some, and so they go over board on the negatives.
We’ll be lucky to finish top four, but I’d be disappointed to to improve on last season’s position. But a lot depends on ETH. Will he drop Rashford (Garnacho and Amad must start on the wings, or even Mount if fit), and then will he play two in front of the back four for a while until we get a few results. If he continues to pick Rashford then we really have no chance as it just shows everyone that you can stay in the team based on salary and not performances – so why would anyone make the effort?
We need to be clinical, nit just in finishing but we also need to be more clinical in creating chances when the opportunity arrives. We started really well on Sunday, just completely fell apart imo. But if we can play like we did for the first 15-20 mins all game then I would be happy.

3rd September 2024 at 3:43 pm #215514Ye very valid points Alfie, i can see why the fans love martinez. Its man utd and the criticism comes thick and fast more so then others because of who they are. I just think hes over hyped and loved because of hos aggressive nature but as you say all about opinions
I had so many false dawns as a Liverpool fan. We were never ever truly back until we were challenging for the league and going far in the cl on a consistent basis
Thats what eth job is. To get utd winning the big big trophies and really becoming a huge force in europe again
Utd fa cup win was huge. Beating your rivals etc. huge day out.
Now fa cup and league are good to win but its has to be better in the league. Money spent is huge. He will be supported until Christmas at the very least.
With the two false nines in bruno and mount utd looked solid as a defensive unit but lacklustre going forward. When he reverted to last season 2nd half v brighton and full game v liverpool its so easy to play againest. He has to find the right balance
Lets see if new signings settle etc. 3rd game in no one should be going overboard about any teams start mate.

4th September 2024 at 1:39 pm #215517The community shield performance from United even though Pep had a weakened team that day was actually good. Obviously the FA Cup triumph too.
That shouldn’t be forgotten. Van Nistelrooy is a good addition to the set up, but emphasis must be built on team spirit and togetherness. Don’t worry too much about a game that doesn’t result in victory or draw.
Looks to me the strengths for United lie mainly on counter-attacking football, build and link up play involving the wide men and the middle.
The one thing I think grinds the vibes down is the media scrutiny after a bad result; it’s like all the past is revisited and unravelled (a lot like Liverpool after a few bad results!).

4th September 2024 at 2:41 pm #215518Why do people think ban nustleroy is the answer for replacement if ten bob goes?
Seems like another ole at the wheel thing with no real substance to base it on ?_____________________________
