Adlab, agree about VAR. Not just because we were on the wrong end of decisions yesterday. We weren’t good enough full stop. But I’m quickly starting to dislike VAR as it just seems so inconsistent regarding when they do or don’t go to it.

25th August 2019 at 10:48 am #46259My whole thing in the 90s was shirt pulling and elbowing. Getting your body in the way and wrestling was part of the game to exhibit your presence.
It can’t be condoned in the modern game what ever part of the pitch you are on.
That is why I was all for VAR. Great that we got our Pen yesterday and Salah wasn’t accused of diving or anything else.

25th August 2019 at 11:19 am #46260Ed, if they lose the match going fans with VAR and this stupid handball rule it will be a real problem.
We’re already hearing “**** VAR” sung in the grounds every week. There has to be more consistency Chelsea were denied a penalty yesterday which VAR inexplicably didn’t even look at.

25th August 2019 at 11:35 am #46261Nine, it’s going to cause so much controversy throughout the season, ironically the very thing it was brought in to eradicate!

25th August 2019 at 11:45 am #46264Interesting info in the Mail today.
Sterling was adjuged 2.9cm offside.(v WHU)
The cameras used to 50 frames per second.
In ONE frame Sterling runs over 13cm.So how on earth can that be given offside to cancel a goal?
Total nonsense or as I am beginning to think, premeditated bias. They are desparate for you know who to win. Who that might be? Who knows!_____________________________

25th August 2019 at 11:49 am #46265Adlab, there might be questions marks against VAR but there clearly isn’t premeditated bias.

25th August 2019 at 11:59 am #46266There is no conspiracy theory at all, it’s getting all the processes right and using the correct equipment the will deliver correct outcomes consistently.
I’ve said this before, it’s literally fractions when it comes to goal-line tech for example or example used in Tennis to determine the ball is OUT or IN, but this is how we are measuring accuracy to ensure the correct call is made and a fair game promoted.

25th August 2019 at 12:15 pm #46267Perhaps no bias but there needs some latitude for such tight decisions when if those stats are true there should be no rule out if say less than ?5cm? or whatever figure. Wolves goal v Utd -Iwould like to see the stats there. This just gives what nobody wants …inconsistency.
It should be easy to build this in to the technology as the equivalent of you are not offside if level._____________________________

25th August 2019 at 12:25 pm #46269I agree adlab, there should be defined margin in which it is too tight to rule with var for offsides, and whenever calls are within this we should allow the goal

25th August 2019 at 1:11 pm #46270AnonymousExactly this.
Once they see something is incredibly marginal, they need to stop looking and award the damn goal.
Marginal call, advantage attacker. Goal awarded.
Thats all they need to communicate. Its faster and people get it. It still weedd out the obvious mistakes.
Var is a joke as things stand but as I said before, its being purposefully hamstrung, in my opinion.

25th August 2019 at 1:45 pm #46272Adlab, still a strong line up mate with Aguero.
Over 2.5 goals easily. Going for a 4-0 Win.

25th August 2019 at 1:49 pm #46273Just seen a Voiceover and an actual talk-through re the Live Cricket and whilst using DRS.
Why don’t we have this in Football too? We need every ground to have big screens synced to VAR so that there is communication and transparency.

25th August 2019 at 1:52 pm #46274What I would do is do some experimentation work with offsides and linesmen – 2 cm offside to a linesman would still look level with the human eye perspective – i.e. the level at which the game is designed to be played at. I would then work out the points at which players are deemed offside by the human eye (which may well actually be more offside than they think when physically measured) and then use that as the defined error margin as Lucky says above – so youβd say when the line is drawn on screen, thereβd then be a second βhuman factorβ line plus 5% say ahead of the official line and use the human line to judge offsides.

25th August 2019 at 2:13 pm #46278I read something about Robot Linesman coming in today. Whatever they do from here they need to get VAR and the handball rules right first imo.
