You can keep Kepa Lucky π . De Gea is a conundrum and his contract coming up for renewal is pivotal in terms of what happens next. He’s a first class shot stopper but look how much he’s told to hit it long because Ten Hag knows his passing game is his weakness. His highlight reel of saves is probably the best in Europe this season but it’s afoot point because his weakness is preventing us playing how we want. Whereas Klopp, Arteta and Pep all got rid of their keepers to bring in Ramsay, Allison and Ederson for the same reason, Ten Hag simply couldn’t do that because, firstly, the budget wouldn’t stretch far enough last summer and, secondly, because you can’t have De Gea sitting on the bench when he’s the highest paid player in the squad. My worry is that De Gea will renew again simply because there are, again, more pressing issues to contend with in improving the squad and it will not be prioritised.

2nd April 2023 at 8:27 pm #205819Ed, while I do think de gea at his best is one of the greatest shot stoppers I have ever seen, even as an outsider I can see the reasons to change. He not quite as good and as you say doesn’t suit current manager and earns way too much all considered.

3rd April 2023 at 9:59 pm #205882It would appear Antonio’s observations about the Spurs players were spot on…………………which we all suspected anyhow

3rd April 2023 at 10:03 pm #205883Totally got what we deserved, terrible game management from not exactly a deserved lead in the first place… and that’s Top4 done and dusted now… between YooUtd and the Bone Saw Boyz now…
Said it before, GJ, maybe he shuldn’t have said it public, but you won’t find many Spud-lovers disagreeing with what he said!

4th April 2023 at 9:20 am #205885Switched off after a tepid first half. It was that quiet with very little action.
Caught up with the highlights and what is Kane doing?!?!?! Daucoure raised his hands, but on replay it looked more like handbags and just heat-of-the-moment stuff that needed cooling off.
Keane showed passion and desire and deserved his effort on goal.
Big point for Everton taking them out of the bottom 3. I think they’ll survive.
Still tough to call the 3 to be relegated.

4th April 2023 at 9:26 am #205886Sir Harry was a twat, for sure, but you can’t push your hands into somebody’s face like that… just asking for trouble and giving the ref an easy decision.

4th April 2023 at 10:05 am #205887Would Harry have got the decision had he chosen not to go down on the floor holding his face though? Discuss…

4th April 2023 at 10:21 am #205888I agree Chucks, on the face bit. It shouldn’t resort to exaggeration and being dramatic, i.e. Rivaldo all those years ago. I thought Kane was shreds better but he was a streak about him. Hey-ho.
On the game itself; I keep making this point that no fixture is a gimmie. I wouldn’t use the term bottlers and I feel perhaps in hindsight, Conte might have imposed pressure on himself.
Press Conferences should be limited in time and questions but that’s another matter and talking point altogether.

4th April 2023 at 10:44 am #205889Name me a player who doesn’t have that “streak” these days! (Which is a shame!)

4th April 2023 at 10:56 am #205890Much as Iβd love to stick your boot in and it was pathetic there are less players who wouldnβt do that then would from all teams mores the pity
Iβd also love to see a proper rugby style rule brought in
Only captains can speak to the ref and then calm β¦ yellow/red cards if not followed
That would fix it!

4th April 2023 at 11:01 am #205891Been suggesting that for years… nobody to “badger” the ref except for the Captain… I’d also do the “move the ball 10 yards” rule from ruggers too… might not have as much of an effect on footy as you can kick it forward anyway, but would certainly give teams something to think about for opening their gob!

4th April 2023 at 11:38 am #205894I was discussing the team of the year with my mate and it popped who should be in mdfiehd with one holding player. Rodri or casemerio?
Iβd go with casemerio as he has had a huge impact on utd. Absolutely world class
I think Martinez had being great. Lovely left foot and aggressive but utd still concede heaps of goals? They can be got at even with casemerio in there.
Utd never really play teams off the park. Few games recently and this season they have scrapped a few wins. Definite progress under ten hagg no doubt. First trophy is huge and top 4 be a very good season. I read somewhere they have less points then this time last season?bizarre as clear progress
Still fancy utd for top 4 cause of their fixtures. Still in Europa and fa cup so really huge chance if another season

4th April 2023 at 12:05 pm #205896Sean, after 27 games last season, Man Utd had 47 points and were in 4th spot. This season after 27 games, they have 50 points and are 5th (albeit with 2 games in hand on Spurs above them). So on that surface analysis, not much has changed. The positives for them for me would be that there is more of an identity there now and the fear factor is back at Old Trafford. And obviously the league cup too. The concerns for me would be that they have the worst goal difference in the top 8, with them having one of the lowest goals scored and highest goals conceded amongst the teams at the top. So plenty of work still to do.

4th April 2023 at 12:37 pm #205897Yeah totally agree Sean. We’re not much better off at all vs last season points wise. As you say, we don’t really control games yet either. I said when Ten Hag came in that it wasn’t going to be an overnight thing where we suddenly started playing Dutch style total football. Ten Hag has essentially taken over a side built for counter attacking and is slowly but surely changing the side. Look at those first two games of the season where he thought we could play out from the back and we got torn apart. We don’t have the right profile of players yet to play like that. De Gea has now been instructed to go long more often than not. I do think we’ll get there under Ten Hag but it won’t happen this season. If we don’t get top 4, questions will be asked, particularly because of how many other big sides are faltering but I’ve seen enough this season to believe Ten Hag will get it right eventually.

4th April 2023 at 1:02 pm #205898Do you go all out to get the Napoli centre forward Ed?
Weβre else do you think utd need players? Right full? Another cm and would you replace de gea?
De gea has being unreal this season. Alisson would be in my team if the season but my heart does he be in my mouth every time had the ball at his feet.

4th April 2023 at 1:13 pm #205899Yeah I’d replace De Gea Sean. I wrote a post about him. The first post on page 6 of this thread. He’s a conundrum because he’s so good at shot stopping but he prevents us playing how Ten Hag wants. I think he’ll get phased out eventually but it’s a case of whether the budget allows for replacing everywhere we need, hence he may choose to stick with De Gea for a while longer.
Yeah we need an 8 who can carry the ball and keep things ticking in midfield. A rb to challenge Dalot. Up front, I don’t think we’d pay what they want for Osimhen. Keep hearing a lot of Kane talk but I don’t think that would happen. There’s a few interesting strikers about. Hojlund at Atalanta, Ramos at Benfica. Ferguson at Brighton. None are likely to be cheap though. Unless you’re finding a hidden gem, you’re looking at best part of Β£100mil for any top striker. That’s a big chunk of the budget.

4th April 2023 at 1:21 pm #205900I love Osimhen, he is a world class version of tammy Abraham. Little injury prone I think and will be expensive.
Think he would be great addition to the league

4th April 2023 at 1:26 pm #205901Only thing I think with Osimhen is I think he’s a great counter attacking striker. I’m not sure he’s a great all rounded number 9 who can bring others into play and drop deeper when required. I think that Hojlund kid is going to be a superstar but I suspect he may go to Bayern albeit we may have a chance as he admitted to being a huge Utd fan.
