It’s a bit like going on holiday for two weeks and it rains for most of the two weeks you can moan about it or just try and make the most of it no matter the weather.
We are where we are for all the reasons we all know as are all the League’s in Europe and this is the way it’s likely to be for some time.
It’s a tough gig for the players imo, they’ve had limited full scale training after the longest lay off in history are having to go through all of the necessary precautions re Cov19 and are playing in empty Stadiums for the majority of them for the first time in their careers.
Given all the circumstances expecting too much from the players too soon was probably a bit optimistic.
Chelsea yesterday reflected the majority of their season to date totally dominating the game with 90% possession at ht yet going in a goal down, two or three were poor but credit to the players and Frank in turning the game around to take the important 3 points.
There will have to be a significant improvement v City on Thursday night though.

22nd June 2020 at 2:03 pm #1228979, not sure how it a tough gig for the players, not having 40k fans criticising everything you do would make life a little easier….Pagan

22nd June 2020 at 2:59 pm #122929Anonymous“Now you see, that I canβt understand! How can you turn a game involving your tam off? ”
I never turn games off but all I can say is that I just had enough of it as a spectacle. I guess it helped that i had a friend waiting for the match to end and we’d play Rocket League (PC game) but again, I’ve never been tempted to make that kind of switch in the past but I was here and I didn’t regret it. It was the dullest, weirdest game I’ve ever seen and I honestly only regret not turning it off sooner.

22nd June 2020 at 3:05 pm #122932AnonymousI agree Nine, I hope they carry the 5 subs rule into the game, proper. Really, only good comes from it. As for the water breaks, the players aren’t match fit, so we’ve got to make sure we look after their health. We don’t want to risk a player getting a heart attack.

This is a pretty good analogy and I totally agree. I was a bit annoyed/tired and drunk when I said that I would give them one more game etc etc.. I’m sure that the next match or 2 will bring a better performance and increase the players sharpness no end. As you say though, we’ve got to make the most of what we have and what we have is either this , or no football at all… and I’d rather my club and all the others around didn’t go broke. I wills till look forward to the next game, even if this last match was maybe a sign to ease off on expectations.

22nd June 2020 at 4:38 pm #122986Anonymous999… It is what it is mate, no doubt about that, but the magic of the season, excitement throughout has gone for me. I said months ago, well done liverpool on winning the title. This is just the after birth we’re having to sift through. The season did end for me in March. it was a struggle to watch my own team yesterday. And to be honest, im not sure comparing it to a moaning holiday maker is a good analogy… especially if you were stuck on a cruise ship recently. π
Many on here have eluded to the quality of what has been on display but there is a bigger concern, Simply put, the “brand” of “football” is in massive trouble. There is no “brand” without fans as they provide the “Loyalty” and cough up money as if its a church collection bowl. If this continues into next season and there is a very high chance of that, clubs will take a wack on season tickets sales and match-day income. Clubs do not need gate revenue to survive up the ladder… but, if any business looses the revenue that clubs make it will blow massive holes in any clubs financial planning, it will sink smaller clubs.
Figures 2017/18
Arsenal made 100 million through matchday and gate revenues.
Chelsea made 74 million
Liverpool 81 Million
Manchester United 286 millionOnly eight more games before we can put this wreck of a season to bed and forget about it. Congrats to Liverpool on the title.

22nd June 2020 at 8:52 pm #123122442, I will be suprised when we finally get to say goodbye to this season if we aren’t facing the same problems next season in respect of fans not being allowed in the Stadiums.
Who knows it could even go until November/December or further and even when fans are allowed back into the Stadiums I suspect Stadium capacities will be constrained even a 1 metre distancing policy would likely lead to only one in three seats being able to be occupied.
There’s no doubt the impact of the lost match day revenues this season and probably next season is going to seriously impact on every Club it’s the reason why Spurs have borrowed Β£175m from the Government because they are not only losing match day revenues but also major Concerts and Boxing as well as NFL football.
It is also the reason why UEFA have announced that they are combining both the 2019/20 season with the 2020/21 Season for FFP purposes and why they are going to make allowances for revenues lost because of Cov19.
The Spurs example demonstrates it’s going to be difficult for even the biggest Clubs and that Spurs won’t be alone in that in the PL even the smaller Clubs in the PL are going to find life difficult and outside of the PL we are sadly likely to lose some Clubs..
You’re right you wouldn’t want to be on a Cruise Ship in these days of Cov19 sadly you can’t even go on holiday currently in fact my Wife and I should be entering the second of our three week holiday in Spain but unfortunately that had to be cancelled a while back as both France and Spain had closed their borders to visitors.
In respect of Chelsea yesterday with or without fans in the Stadium I thought the players put in a decent shift albeit they were a bit ring rusty and I thought our ability to give away sloppy goals and not make the most of our dominance was comparable to how we were playing before the enforced break.
Hopefully we will improve in the next 8 games and given the current and planned signings there will be further improvements next season. Cheers 9’s

22nd June 2020 at 9:28 pm #123144Nine fair points but itβs not really moaning
Itβs more an observation from me. Iβve no interest and I really should.
Players are rusty. The quality has been poor and itβs just terrible without fans.
Iβm hoping my love for the game is not fading as I didnβt miss it through all this

Pagan, this is a new experience for the players they’ve had to go through all the restrictions in training leading up to the first game, a limited period of pre restart training, all the necessary checks pre the games for Cov19 and no crowds in the Stadiums which they are not used to and affects the atmosphere in the Stadium.
Just the way I see it buddie if you don’t agree no worries. Cheers 9’s

22nd June 2020 at 10:04 pm #123171AnonymousSean, I’m in a similar boat. I didnt miss the football for huge parts of the time away, especially as time went on. You could say that maybe I’m also losing interest but I think it’s just a combination of the no fans, coming back to play a season that’s already over and the time away from the sport. there are a lot of factors that really put a dampener on things.
Anyway, I kinda take comfort in seeing that it’s not just me. We don’t have long to wait for the Palace game but it’s the City match that will likely revive the spirit in us, I hope.
Look man, til then just stay safe and look after yourself. Try and do something that you do enjoy, as we wait for life to return to normal.

23rd June 2020 at 8:26 am #123565Another bizarre pre prepared four and a half minute rant from Jose in his pre match press conference yesterday ahead of the West Ham game aimed at Paul Merson who had questioned Jose’s tactics v United getting the best out of Harry Kane which to be fair is a bit previous given Kane has been out for circa 6 months injured.
Of course it was all about Jose and how he has always got the best out of all the strikers he has managed citing a long list and their stats under him including Drogba and Ronaldo.
Unfortunately his stats on Drogba were ridiculously flawed “I had a few strikers that played for me and theyβre not bad. I had a guy called Drogba, he played for me four seasons, he scored 186 goals β an average 46 goals per season.” When the actual goals Drogba scored under Mourinho at Chelsea was 73.
You would have thought the claimed 46 goals a season average might have suggested to Jose that can’t be correct surely.?
Merson might be right in questioning Jose’s tactics and how Kane may not prosper under them but I think it will need next season to prove that one way or the other.

23rd June 2020 at 9:49 am #123617Anonymous999… perhaps he was talking about the goals Drogba scored against him in a game on Fifa! π
Sorry about your holidays, and everyone else plans and for this year… its been a bit of a nightmare. Its all we got right now, so hoping the players can earn their money with some outstanding performances, hoping the ring rust leaves them in game two…
What an absolutely curious time.

24th June 2020 at 9:15 am #124484What can I say??
Spuds were a bit better than they were last Friday against Emoji-Flop and the Dancing Queens, albeit against a woeful Wet Spam. Not a lot of love for them, but setting up in an ultra defensive 4-5-1 from the kick-off doesn’t warm the cockles of my heart.
Defence looked a little tighter although not a great deal was chucked at it, attack looked a little more potent but still somewhat rusty with a few miss-placed passes here and there helping the Spammers defence out on more than one occassion.
Sir Harry looked a bit sharper (hard to look any less sharper mind you!) and on another day could have had a hat-trick quite easily, missing a couple of very good chances.
Don’t think it was a handball at all, just sour grapes from sour puss!
But bloody hell, is footy hard to watch in these “conditions” (at least you buggers get the commentary in English!)…. but a win is a win is a win, not entirely out the race for Top4, could get quite interesting as we have Abu Money vs Russian Money and YooUtd vs NewUtd coming up over the next few days. Table could be quite interesting after those two games, depending on how results go.

24th June 2020 at 11:07 am #124553All to play for Chucky with plenty of twists and turns along the way.
Good news for Chelsea was both Pedro and Willian signing short term contracts until the end of the season everyhody will be needed between now and the end of the season with the games coming thick and fast which heightens the chances of injuries.
I would be happy with a point v City.

24th June 2020 at 3:23 pm #124710Pep Guardiola insists that Manchester City’s FA Cup quarter-final at Newcastle is their ‘final’, and he will rotate his side against Chelsea accordingly.
City have beaten Arsenal and Burnley in the last seven days, and take on Chelsea knowing dropped points could finally hand Liverpool the Premier League title.
Guardiola will already be without Sergio Aguero, and Eric Garcia is likely to miss out after suffering concussion in the Arsenal game. To add to the injury list, Guardiola revealed his squad are nursing some muscle injuries and knocks ahead of the Chelsea game.
“We have an advantage that there is five days between [the Arsenal and Burnley games] but the team still isnβt fit. I donβt know when theyβll be perfectly fit with a few players playing every few days for 90 minutes.
“We have some disturbing muscular problems and some kicks from the last game. You have to avoid the injuries to arrive two important games β Newcastle on Sunday and especially Madrid. We can qualify mathematically for the Champions League, weβre in a good position.” Manchester Evening News.
D
Might give us half a chance.?But Chelsea have the same problem with Leicester away in the Cup on Sunday too.
