watching the Cardiff – Leeds game and many other teams as well I sometimes wonder where I want wrong and how so many of these players get to play for top teams.

21st June 2020 at 1:37 pm #122016Can one of you settle an arguement at home.
Why do many players like Alexander-Arnold, Calvert-Lewin, Walker-Peters, Loftus-Cheeck have double barrel names given they are all English. She thinks its both parents names. I reckon its Caribbean culture.
Does anybody know_____________________________

21st June 2020 at 1:52 pm #122027Guess most of us think that moos, think it’s various factors besides ability such as opportunities and determination. Also the more professional environment you in the better player you become.

21st June 2020 at 2:08 pm #122038Not the PL but that was a massive win for Cardiff and puts them right up there in the fight for a play off place. Dissapointing for Leeds who were probably the better team.
The Championship is going to be very interesting in the fun in Cardiff are away to Preston next week which is a real 6 pointer.

21st June 2020 at 3:11 pm #122074Adlab – I have a double barreled name and am white British. It is both my dads and my mums surnames heifenated together. They both kept their own last name. My wife took my last name, so my son has both his grandparents names on my side. I couldn’t tell you if it’s also part of carribean culture or not though, it could well be. For what it’s worth I was always considered a posh boy because of it.

21st June 2020 at 3:34 pm #122090I would think that double barrelled names come from historically important families who didnβt have male heirs to the estate and wanted to keep the name alive.
As D1rty-H4rry said, it was always associated with posh people…..Pagan

21st June 2020 at 4:07 pm #122111Thanks for that Dirty H.
So (and last on this), when the family drop a generation or two does the surname change assuming mother’s family name is maintained? So for somebody now Smith-Jones their grandchild might be Davis-Jones, Davis being the childs mother’s family name and Jones the family name?Promise no more on this. Just interested.

21st June 2020 at 10:43 pm #122346AnonymousI never turn Liverpool matches off but I did when it hit 80 mins. That wasnt worth watching, it wasnt worth waiting for. I get the feeling that our lads were less fit than Everton and I have to ask why. Luckily I dont care too much but I will say that they just pissed away 2 points from a potential points record. if the next game isnt a big improvement, I’m writing the season off and not watching any more of this.

22nd June 2020 at 8:25 am #122687Now you see, that I can’t understand! How can you turn a game involving your tam off? How many times in recent years have we scored a last minute goal against Everton? Admittedly, it didn’t look like happening yesterday, and then saying you won’t watch for the rest of the season? Really? On our greatest ever season? Wow!

22nd June 2020 at 8:39 am #122697True, Steveo – maybe I would think differently if I were an Arsenal fan at the moment – you’re a bit likee we were under Hodgson – had one or two world class players, and just so much dross!

22nd June 2020 at 8:57 am #122707we do have a lot of dross but on paper we have some decent players, we cant defend for our lives, still have no identity, no settled starting 11 or settled tactics, Arteta must have used the most players in his teams than anyone, some real strange team selections and persisting with the likes of Luiz/xhaka et al
was really hoping arteta would be a little more brutal than he is being, like the fact a lot of kids are getting a chance but its to disjointed in approach…..ah well it can only get better, thats the thing when you set the bar so low!!

22nd June 2020 at 9:17 am #122719Yeah I’d be extremely concerned if I was an Arsenal fan. I can’t see that Arteta has improved anything if I’m honest. I said at the time it was a bizarre appointment and I stand by that. When will big clubs come to the realisation that being a good number 2 has no bearing whatsoever on someone’s ability to succeed in the top job? Arteta looks clueless and, as he’s unlikely to go in the summer, it’s difficult to see any positives for next season even for Arsenal.

22nd June 2020 at 10:28 am #122761And they thought David Luiz for 8 million was a steal. Well I guess it was, for Chelsea. Way past his best now.

22nd June 2020 at 10:38 am #122769HH, I agree mate. I never turn a game off
I thought that was absolutely dreadful last abd the football in general since the return has been rubbish.
They are like pre-season games. Stoppages for water , to many subs etc.

22nd June 2020 at 11:09 am #122788Sean, personally I like the new subs rule and would like to see it continue it adds to the tactics imo and can’t be used to waste more time than the previous subs rules.
I think the drinks break needs to be tempered by the weather we’re playing in June and it can be hot but there’s been water breaks when the weather isn’t hot perhaps it should be governed by temperature.
I thought both the City v Arsenal game and the Spurs v United game were entertaining but a number of the games have been poor. To be fair to the players they’ve had the longest break ever and they’re getting used to no fans and all of the precautions of Cov19.
I didn’t watch very much of the Liverpool game last night but from what I did watch they weren’t at their best that’s one win in the last five v Bournemouth for Liverpool and they’seem to have hit a bit of a wall which happens, no Salah and Robertson didn’t help either but they’ve had a fantastic season and will almost certainly set a new points total. Cheers 9’s
Every other team in the PL would gladly swap places with them.? Cheers 9’s

22nd June 2020 at 11:38 am #122807Not watched a full game yet, caught the end of the Arsenal game, but did watch a bit of MOTD Sunday morning.
Two observations
Why are they having drinks breaks, theyβve never had them in August and itβs hot then.
30 games into the season and the pitches look brand new

22nd June 2020 at 12:24 pm #122836AnonymousHH… Mate, it was a struggle watching the chelsea game… to the point it simply became background noise to other things I started doing. At one point I forgot My team was in action. I tried to watch the city game last week, spent a half with the crowd sound and half without it. It’s just like watching a higher version of park football played in county cricket ground type atmospheres.
given the number of subs, drinks breaks, it is a pre sesason, given the injuries picked up as well across the league clubs, its also having an effect on the players. I also cant but help notice all the marketing on crisps and cans of soft drinks etc bigging up the Euros… and of course, we dont have them.
We got three points yesterday but I simply dont think the league should have resumed… Where I am based, the pubs are open but theyre empty as well. Think next season could be a struggle as well.
