The goal line technology error last night could be the difference in Villa staying up and sending another team down and Sheffield United not finishing in a CL/EL place.

18th June 2020 at 10:26 am #119200By the time the end of the season rolls around, all 20 teams are likely to be able to point to multiple incidents where VAR or whatever either cost them or gained them points…

18th June 2020 at 11:06 am #119227Nothing quite like that though Chucky Hawkeye has never erred in over 9,000 games.

18th June 2020 at 11:12 am #119232I decided not to watch the match live on YV and opted for the radio….not as bad as I feared or I would have switched that off as well. I would disagree about the training match comments though, I thought the players gave a good account of themselves, after all, it was a real game just Arsenal found themselves second best/. I hope Garcia is OK, I have been waiting for him to be given a chance and he was doing well up to the incident A young talented player who would have been a regular with Laporte I think

18th June 2020 at 11:38 am #119256Anonymousi didnt think it was like a training game. thought city were excellent. if I was an arsenal fan I would be seriously pissed though. first of all the team selection from arteta was terrible. then Luiz cameo gifting two goals and getting sent off. but worst of all for me was aubameyang. he was wearing the captains armband last night but was completely anonymous. did not put in any effort. didn’t provide any support to his team mates. was a shameful performance. at least Luiz actually tried and then came out after and didn’t hide from it all.

18th June 2020 at 1:57 pm #119346I get the feeling, to the extent in line with mine. Ok to watch our own team but no rush to watch others.
On reflection it was unfair to describe it as a training game as both put in the effort. Perhaps we’ll adjust but even more so it shows how important the fans are.
By the way I thought the ref had a decent game even though he supports Utd.But David Luiz………..

18th June 2020 at 2:18 pm #119359We are where we are for good reason and there’s going to be no fans in the Stadiums for some time almost certainly into next season and even when that ends there will be restrictions on how many fans allowed into the Stadiums.
We all have to accept that and get on with watching what we have.

18th June 2020 at 2:24 pm #119364I thought City were excellent last night though Arsenal certainly made it easier for them. City would be an even better ream if Pep played Sane instead of Sterling who again I thought was pretty average last night.
As for the viewing experience, it was very strange. Think you have to watch it with the crowd effects otherwise it is just too anaemic. It’s not the same, but it’s a sight better than no football at all.

18th June 2020 at 4:10 pm #119428Hopefully i start to get into it better nine but it was dull without any fans.
Villa game was dreadful. First 30 min of city game was as boring as feck.
You can’t be getting calls like sheff utd goal wrong yday with var around.
Agree about aumbyang , he was brutal
I think arsenal are in serious trouble for a few years
Bizarre starting 11

18th June 2020 at 4:13 pm #119432Some of cities moves after 30 mins were very good. Some good saves by Leno aswell but I just couldn’t get into it
As nine says, this is football now but I really hope I don’t go off it as I really didn’t miss it and the return yday was as exciting as a dose of shits

19th June 2020 at 9:51 am #120071Re the Sheffield goal…I have feared this from the start with the system we have. Somebody’s interpretation of what happened is down to human decision not technology, that gives me a bigger problem. If humans cannot interpret what the camera sees and what looks clear evidence then we have a major problem with humans….again. It also shows how periously close we are to match fixing in a covert way. All it has done is shift responsibility from REF and Assistants to some “unknown” arbitrator. Please tell me I am wrong

19th June 2020 at 9:54 am #120075PS…One of the reasons given. “it was obscured by the post”. For goodness sake. it is goal line technology and that includes the post. Other cameras should have picked it up anyhow and if it was over and from what I have seen, it was, the ball had past the post anyhow.

19th June 2020 at 10:04 am #120081Anonymousbrian – it was just a one in a million anomaly. there will be an exceptionally rare occasion where the view of the cameras is obstructed and it cannot detect the ball crossing the line. hawkeye have come out and apologised for this. the biggest problem for me is, despite it being clearly obvious the ball crossed the line, neither the linesman or VAR decided to bring it to the attention of the ref.

19th June 2020 at 11:03 am #120118I know it’s not particularly fashionable to say this given where we are with everything but I’m quite looking forward to the Spurs v United game tonight it’s a good match up with plenty to play for.
From a Chelsea perspective I guess a Spurs win would be the best result and a draw not a bad result.
With Jose on the bench I’m tempted to watch it without the crowd noise too.?

19th June 2020 at 12:07 pm #120158AnonymousThe keeper was clearly pushed over the goaline so it should have still been a free kick to Villa,it doesn’t matter if was his own team mate it’s still a foul under those circumstances

you really are a comedian, if that was the case at every corner/free kick a defender would “foul” his own keeper. Probably the funniest post I’ve seen on this forum…..Pagan

19th June 2020 at 3:03 pm #120267Paxton. “neither the linesman or VAR” reacted also gives me more questions. It is no good Hawkeye apologising, how does that help Sheffield Utd? Why is VAR employed if it is not part of the decision making? I am uneasy about the episode Paxton, I think there will be more like this. As a matter of interest how many cameras do they have for goal line technology? take care

19th June 2020 at 3:13 pm #120274Paxton…just as an extra question for you. How many decision makers are now covering the game. The company that owns and operates Hawkeye , is it the same as the one that operated VAR?
My take
1. Ref
2. Assistants
3.VAR. (Plus 2/3/4 adjudicators or whatever they call them)
4 HawkeyePlus….as above)
Any more?canyon see where I am going with this? Of course, I maybe totally wrong but you have to admit , it is a long way from where the game originally was.
I do agree with technology, when foolproof, particularly Goal line technology but VAR is another can of worms to me and suspect. If technology is not 100% then no advantage over a Ref. However, I would admit the FA, or whoever, need to raise the standard of Refereeing for the modern game…significantly

19th June 2020 at 3:32 pm #120287I don’t get the excuse from Hawkeye, there were no bodies between the assistant referee who was on the side the ball went in on and the post, therefore what obstructed their view.
For me the assistant had a perfectly good view of it and should have flagged the goal. What we’re seeing now is the refereeing team letting the technology make the decisions for them rather than them using it to assist them….Pagan
