Looking at the wear and tear of since the restart of the Premier League through a different Lens, I’d say it’s been refreshing so far with almost a month in.
I’m bound to say that obviously 😀 but I think back to not so long ago when the season potentially could have been null and void.
With The League done and dusted, the excitement comes from the Teams fighting for Champions League and Europa Places. It’s been great because of the increased level of competition.
The itinerary also having games almost on a daily basis during (unusually) in July feels like a Tournament of some sort.
Drinks Break No Problemo 😀 🙂

10th July 2020 at 9:25 pm #126712The drinks breaks will go but I think the 5 subs/3 substitution rule with stay. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised to see a larger number of subs/squads. And as long as they stick with the 3 substitution rule I wouldn’t be too bothered about it either.

11th July 2020 at 7:55 am #127078Chucky, there’s a split between the PL Clubs as to whether the 5 substitute rule should continue it will probably have to go to a vote and would need 14 Clubs to vote in favour of it .
I’m with you though and would like to see it continue._____________________________

11th July 2020 at 8:46 am #127110Only sing when yir winning, eh, Waspy? 🙂 🙂
No harm meant, but with the shitshow at the Lane, I’m going in the complete opposite direction!
Going back to the subs thing, I think it’s here to stay, the footy calendar is so messed up now, a delayed start to next season, Euro’s next summer, a postponed ACN with no known date for its return, and then the calendar has to be re-arranged again for the WC in Qatar… it’s all over the place and the precedent has been set now. The only direction it will go is to be expanded by way of more on the bench and more players allowed. As long as it’s only 3 times per game (or at HALFTIME, I’ll give them that).
But anything at all that allows more slowing down of the game, no thanks.

11th July 2020 at 9:04 am #127120Personally I think 5 substitutes are enough going forwards.
It protects the players, covers injuries and allows for tactical changes anymore thank that and it resembles a friendly.
There still needs an agreement on the 5 yet though.

11th July 2020 at 10:55 am #127185I can only recall 2 or 3 days of humidity a few weeks back which was what I thought the drinks break was for to allow players to hydrate.
I think as far as Subs go, this would help players rest and recover plus inject freshness on the pitch using the depth of the squad.

11th July 2020 at 1:34 pm #127250Problem with 5 subs is, it’s a better advantage with the clubs who have bigger and better squads/players etc

11th July 2020 at 1:40 pm #127254That’s the problem Sean and the Club’s at the other end of the PL table with the weaker squads are understandably anti it only needs 7 of them to vote against it. We’ll see.

11th July 2020 at 2:17 pm #127271Agree guys with the above. It can obviously happen to teams with a lot of injuries too. One big positive this pandemic has allowed is those that were injured to recover and catch up with the rest to reach a full level of fitness.

11th July 2020 at 2:21 pm #127274AnonymousSo we’ve Niko Williams and Curtis Jones starting today. This time we’re resting Trent, with Robertson starting. I’m fine with this, as long as he’s brought on. I was worried that Klopp would rotate Salah out today but luckily the front 3 all start.
Hopefully Minamino will get at least 30 mins today though. Bring him on after the lads have knackered the opposition a bit.

11th July 2020 at 3:33 pm #127304AnonymousSunshine fans 442!
But lads, I had a little smile at the face Trent gave from the bench after Salah blazed his early-ish freekick over. It was a very “No competition” look.

11th July 2020 at 3:35 pm #127305Is there really much point pointing our “unfairness” in the game with regards to squad sizes?
There’s always bigger clubs vs smaller clubs, always has been and always will be. If we want to make it “fair”, then you need a salary cap that the small clubs can afford (not the big clubs!), or squad sizes that the small clubs can do, (not the big clubs), limit on transfer fees that the small clubs can afford (not the big clubs). Do you really want that? All of our clubs on here would not be benefiting from these rules, Spuds wouldn’t be buying N-Dumb, YooUtd wouldn’t be buying Dancing Queens in January, LiVARberoOol’s getting no Dick Van Dykes or Alices’ in goal… the list goes on.
And at the end of the day, if a Premiership club can’t put 19 players in a matchday squad, then they shouldn’t be in the Prem, most of these clubs have 30/40 players on the books.
To be honest, cyber chums, it’s a bit late now to show “concern” for the smaller clubs. The horse has bolted and the door is wide open.

11th July 2020 at 3:53 pm #127314Really pleased above all with our application for this first half. We’re playing as though we’re fighting Man City for the Title even though it’s already been done and dusted. The players look energetic and hungry even in an empty stadium.
When was the last time we had a 3pm game?! 😀

11th July 2020 at 3:59 pm #127318Anonymous“Do you really want that?”
NO.
I’m sternly against all of these types of measures to make things “fair”, with the exception of financial juicing… but that for me is not so much an exception but actually just a side step.
Clubs should be allowed to exploit their own self-generated resources and I find it amusing to look over at the various systems that Americans have in place for their various sports. The nation that openly mocks socialism/communism to a really strong extent, have systems in place that fly in the face of their capitalistic values.
I’m all for the PL sharing money to lower leagues but if we were to start implementing rules that hamstring teams who are really only coasting on the backs of their own successes on and off the field, then I’d definitely lose a little faith in this sport.
Sorry if that’s poorly written but I hope you get my meaning all the same.
