It’s been a decline for a couple of seasons… look at the team that was tearing up the League (by our Spuds standards!! 🙂 ) a couple of seasons back…
GK: Hugo
RB: Walker
LB: Rose
CB: Jan & Toby
DMD: Vicky and the Moose
AM: Dele, Wee Erick and Sonny
Str: Kane…Now look what we got:
GK: Hugo still (but past his best, bless ’em)
RB: Weirdy Beardy (enough said!)
RB: Davies (solid at best but nothing going forwards!)
CB: Dirty Sanchez and Eric… (absolutely a step backwards)
DMD: Disco and Dinksy Winksy (even bigger step back)
AM: Sonny, Dele’s sister, Lamamemememlalala (with very average Lucas and Berghienewwindd)
Str: Sir Kane (who just hasn’t been the same for 18 months now)So, apart from Sonny, we’ve either downgraded (severly in some cases) or the players, for reasons unknown, just aren’t the same as they used to be. As a team, just going backwards…
Is Maureen the man to change this?? Nope…
18 more months of this and we’ll see who we’ll get in the dugout, but until then it’s going to be mid-table nonsense and possibly (but unlikely) Europa League…

6th July 2020 at 9:29 am #126243Do you think jose will win a trophy at spurs nine? If he dies, it will be his biggest achievement
Surely Sean’s best autocorrect fail yet ?

6th July 2020 at 9:39 am #126245Haha Ed glad I wasn’t the only one that spotted that!
I think Chucky has made a good point regarding the squad. When it’s laid out like that you can see a massive decline in quality.
So a large rebuilding task is in order most likely on a shoestring budget. One where the manager would need his players to punch above their weight by inspiring them and creating a strong dressing room atmosphere (I think not criticising players in public might be a step towards this!). Using exciting progressive tactics that the fans can see the positive direction the team is going in (think Klopp 1st season) and gets behind the team.
Does Joes sound like the man for such a task?!
Thing is Spurs a likely stuck with him as I’m sure sacking him will be expensive. That man has made a lot of money by being sacked recently, if only I could do this in my line of work!!

6th July 2020 at 10:37 am #126247The more I think about it, Maureen is basically managerial Marmite.
Over the years, there have been plenty of players who love the man for whatever reason, and plenty of others who do not. It’s simply a question of giving him enough dosh to go shopping for Marmite players… so unless you find some Marmite in the bargin bucket at Poundsavers, we’ve got no chance, especially when the majority of our squad are currently Peanut Butter (Extra Crunchy).

6th July 2020 at 10:39 am #126248Going back to my Before and Afters teams, pretty much all in the After’s Teams are squad players, and pretty much all of them did a pretty decent job filling in for the Before’s team when called upon. But now, we’ve got all our After’s team playing at the same time… and now we know they’re rubbish.
I miss the Moose the most, it’s really all been down hill since he buggered off for some extra specail crispy duck fried noodles.

6th July 2020 at 10:46 am #126249And considering our current pantry, I’d go with the following for tonights game against the Toffee’s:
3-4-3… with very attacking Wingbacks…
GK: Hugo (not much of a choice)
Back three of: Toby, Sanchez, Jan
Midfield: Weirdy Beardy, N-Dumb, Dier, Wee Ryan
Up Top: Sonny, Sir Harry, Berggeeywyeeieinrwn_____________________________

6th July 2020 at 12:16 pm #126253I believe Jose style has suffered due to the lack of quality defenders and leaders, especially center backs in the game today. He loves to play counter attacking football, which worked well at Chelsea twice, when he had Terry, Carvalho, Cahill, Inter with Lucio and Samuel, Madrid Ramos, Pepe/Varane. When the opposition made a mistake, these players came out of the back and got a counter attacking move going. At United, he had Jones, Smalling, Rojo and Bailly, then Lindelof later, at Spurs, he has a ageing centre back pairing and a error prone Sanchez.
There seems to be a fair bit of emerging attacking talent coming through, yet there are a shortage of quality defenders coming through, especially center backs. United still have not filled the void left by Vidic and Rio, Chelsea have struggled to replace Cahill and Terry, Pep struggled to replace Kompany last summer. Biggest indication is Klopp, Liverpool needed a center back for years, the transfer committee probably had a long list of players, Klopp waited until the right player came along and got him, he knew the others on the list were not any better than the players he had already.
I have seen a few fans now say their side needs a center back, from City, United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs, there is a reason so many are struggling to bring 1 in. Compare to who the league had 10-15 years ago to now, Rio, Vidic, Terry, Carvalho, Carragher, Hyppia, Agger, King, Campbell, Kompany.

6th July 2020 at 1:28 pm #126280i think any discussion on how bad a state the spuds are in is just super dooper and should be at least 100 pages long with every single tiny facet expounded upon ad infinitum 🙂
cheering me right up this is 🙂

6th July 2020 at 2:10 pm #126282Whilst there was a vast amount of time off, there have been teams able to benefit to work on the players that have been missing (due to injuries) and getting them back to playing.
United now have a better compliment of players which I don’t think in fairness to Ole, he’s not previously had, plus something extra in quality i.e. Fernandez. Mason Greenwood of late has been a joy to watch and United are starting to get a good pattern of results together so this takes away pressure and spotlight off them in a negative way. You’ve got to have some form of continuity which some teams at the moment don’t have. It’s gradual progress too.
The problem in this industry these days more than ever is every other defeat is picked upon by the Media which doesn’t help with ease of tensions and pressure.
There are lots of teams in my eyes still in a transitional period and unsettled. Thus why we have the examples of Spurs, Arsenal that are where they are.
This league in general has shown anybody being able to beat anybody.
I still believe Man City will be one of the favourites to take the crown next season, but you wonder whether this 90-100 point benchmark is now the regular precedent set for a Team to win the Title. It is crazy and just immense pressure.Players would have to be machines week in week out. You have to allow Time, trust in players to be able to flourish and patience.

6th July 2020 at 2:31 pm #126284999, Will it though? Can anybody be sure the season won’t be declared null and void, and Liverpool be screwed over by the PL once again?

6th July 2020 at 2:39 pm #126285Nine, hope you and your Family are Well too mate. I haven’t spoken to you and others on here possibly since January. A lot has happened, but generally all well. I’ll probably go into more detail on one of the other threads.
Yeah, Nike it will be. Thanks for the kind words. Everything still feels weird with Leicester remaining in lock down. It still in my mind hasn’t sunk in properly that we’ve finally won the League. Maybe when the season finishes.
Ultra grateful though the authorities found a way to recommence Football. It looked at one point null and void, plus I wouldn’t have wanted just for the Title to be handed to us – very fortunate we got the opportunity to win it the right way.
Cheers
