Rudiger is a good centre back nine. Poor for the 3rd goal but in general , heβs a good strong centre bsck in my view
Kepa is still very young for a keeper. Not sure frank trusts him and Chelsea might need to take a hit on him as he was 71m
Left bsck badly needed as good as Alonso is in a back 5. Heβs poor in a back 4
Is Alonso dirty or is he just really clumsy ?

2nd July 2020 at 3:30 am #126005AnonymousInteresting debate between Sean and the Ed but I will throw my hat further into the ring by saying that I think we’ll beat City. I am not in the slightest bit being cocky, they’ve been on great form and will want to do a number on us but we’ll also be motivated to beat them after they 98 pointed us last season. We’ve claimed the title but this is our first game back after the confirmation. City have battered teams heading in and have more minutes under them, true and if it’s telling then fine, I was wrong but I see us beating them.
It’s the matches after that that you’ve got to convince me that we’ll care as much as the opposition about. Chelsea are one of maybe 3 teams so far this season who were able to contend with us at all. In fact, I think they were every bit as good as us in the first fixture. Our mentality showed and got us over the line, barely!
I do care about the points record but I don’t think its enough to motivate players day in and out, on the training pitches. Bayern had a similar lead once and once they won the league, they dropped loads of points. I hope we can keep going, really lock in a legendary team but I have my doubts.
anyway boys, I was just watching some Liverpool video and it talked about us as new champions and .. wow, it is just weird to hear this. I tell you, it’s gonna sound weird next season when the match commentary refer to us as “the champions” … It’s always been Man Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs (jk) and recently City… it’s going to be really cool to hear us in the same manner. Am I weird for looking forward to that little detail?
I’ve had further thoughts regards the guard of honour also. You lads know I have massive respect for Pep, maybe there was that incident that kinda flared up when I thought of it … but I’ve since decided to let it go and to try and appreciate and respect the humility and honesty of the City players, if they do offer us a guard of honour. You lads know that I’ve a lot of time for Pep and apparently he’s said that they will and I acknowledge that it can’t be easy for them. It would be a touch of class though and tomorrow, I’ll raise my glass to it, as I will do all of you lads on here.

2nd July 2020 at 7:09 am #126007AnonymousIβd say legendary status comes with a sustained period of winning. Donβt think people will look at the 100 point season and say wow. Theyβll look back at Cityβs domestic dominance and say wow. If This Liverpool squad wants to achieve legendary status they need to keep Klopp and keep going and then they will do that. A few titles does it, not one 100 point season.

2nd July 2020 at 7:40 am #1260102nd July 2020 at 7:50 am #126011Very nice, Ed! Mr Panenka would be very proud!
On a side issue, I really think we missed a trick on this site not inviting Nil back, if only for the moment Liverpool won the league! Would have been good to see!

2nd July 2020 at 7:57 am #126012He may have been but a Panenka is something else ?. A Panenka is one of those chipped penalties like Messi did for his 700th goal. Rabona is the one where you hook one leg around the other. I think Lamela scored one of the best ones for Spurs.
Yeah Nil emailed me and asked about coming back. Completely forgot to get back to him. As always, happy to consider it as a short term thing as long as there’s a consensus. Really don’t want to be losing posters as a result of him coming back

2nd July 2020 at 8:29 am #126014I’d love to see Nil back, and I really can’t see how any grown men can really get their knickers in a knot about anything anybody posts on a bloody interweb furom.
If he grinds your gears, just scroll past.

2nd July 2020 at 9:55 am #126016I couldnβt care less about about a guard of honour to be honest.
This team will go down in pl
Folklore Paxton as it had broken many records. We have lost 2 games in 68 games
We won 18 games in a row which equals cities record
We went 44 games unbeaten.
We lost the league by one point after getting 97 points .
We won the champions league.
Some other records broken. Itβs up there as one of the great pl teams but not the best.
Jose Chelsea team in 04/05 was formidable
Cities recent teams have been unrealFergie built so many good teams and arsenal had the invincible.
100 points would be massive and would be very fondly remembered
Look how city celebrated when they got to 100 points.,

2nd July 2020 at 11:00 am #126025Anonymousno doubt the achievements are very impressive but you need more to be considered a legendary side or at least one of the PL greatest. this may well be the best team based on a single season in the league but you need more seasons of this. if Klopp stays and the squad stays together then I can see this Liverpool team being one of the absolute greats of English football but they need a couple more titles or cups first.

2nd July 2020 at 1:30 pm #126028Liverpool are a great team to become a legendary team though they have to add more PL titles to this one.
I think there’s every chance of them doing that but I also think that there will be more challengers for the PL title over the next 3/4 years which can only be good for the PL.

2nd July 2020 at 2:15 pm #126031Waspy- agree with S.Nichol here,Rudiger is not a very good defender @ all, just like the likes of Jones,Otamendi,Stones,Mustafi, and a few more. The entire Chelseas back line is a liabilty, starting with the goalie. The thing is,there arent any VVD or Ramos or Chiellinis out there anymore to be signed. You can waste Β£80m on a Maguire but its nowhere near good enough to have an impact like VVD does/has.

2nd July 2020 at 2:16 pm #126032Yeah I’d agree with that. I think there’s a difference between a legendary title win and a legendary team.
Leicester, for example, had a legendary title win but weren’t a legendary team. Huge achievement which is unlikely to be matched any time soon but their inability to come back and have any sustained period of success including many title wins with a core team prevents them being mentioned alongside the greatest teams, for me at least.
I think you almost have to separate them and look at which the greatest title wins were and which were the greatest title winning teams. Leicester, Arsenal’s invincibles definitely part of the former. Utd, Chelsea, City, Arsenal all examples of the latter during the PL years. Liverpool walk into the former category but have some way to go to be part of the latter.
