Before or after the final ball has been kicked? That really would make things really interesting!

24th June 2020 at 3:43 pm #124724“Full CAS statement
The hearing in the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) arbitration between Manchester City FC and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) concluded at 4:15pm (CET) today. The hearing, initiated on 8 June 2020 in the morning, was conducted by videoconference, with participants in Lausanne and London, and expert witnesses in various countries, in accordance with the schedule planned. At the end of the hearing, both parties expressed their satisfaction with respect to the conduct of the procedure.
The Panel of arbitrators in charge of the matter, composed of Mr Rui Botica Santos (Portugal), president, Prof. Ulrich Haas (Germany) and Mr Andrew McDougall QC (France), will start its deliberations and prepare the Arbitral Award containing their decision.
The decision is expected to be issued during the first half of July 2020. The exact date will be communicated in advance.
The CAS arbitration concerns an appeal filed by Manchester City FC against the decision of the Adjudicatory Chamber of the UEFA Club Financial Control Body (CFCB) dated 14 February 2020 in which it was deemed to have contravened UEFAβs Club Licensing and Financial Fair Play Regulations and sanctioned with exclusion from participation in UEFA club competitions in the next two seasons and ordered to pay a fine of EUR 30 million.”

24th June 2020 at 3:43 pm #124725You can only play team or game at a time, that is where the effort should be. I still want second place nailed down so hope we go for a win on Thursday. Let us take it from there afterwards

24th June 2020 at 3:54 pm #124733Sounds like Pep is prioritising the Newcastle game Brian?
Whatever team City put out it will be a strong one chosen by Pep to win the game.

24th June 2020 at 4:36 pm #124757Have to admit, this CAS thing could make for a very interesting end to the season. Just been looking at the fixture list, last weekend along has Chelsea vs Wolves and Leicester vs Floppy Buggers, and the round before that as Leicester vs Spuds, we could literally be watching some CL play-offs occurring…
Hopefully, we’ll have 4th spot sewn up before then… π
Anyway, win for Sheffield tonight and Moneybags tomorrow, please!

24th June 2020 at 7:19 pm #124853Nine…I am sure Pep wants more silverware that is for sure but he is very pragmatic and is now picking his teams for different opposition but he will concentrate hard on Chelsea I think..that is the next game

24th June 2020 at 8:40 pm #124903Important win for United to close within 2 points of Chelsea in 4th place. They’re the form team of all those chasing 4tn place perhaps even 3rd place.
Re 5th place even if City fail with their appeal I’ve seen nothing from UEFA that suggests they will award City’s place to the 5th placed Club.
It would seem logical but we will have to wait and see what UEFA say assuming that the City appeal is unsuccessful.

25th June 2020 at 5:05 am #125212Pretty sure UEFA have no say on the 5th place issue, it’s the FA’s job to “nominate” the 4 teams. UEFA are simply awarding the number of entrants the FA can have…

25th June 2020 at 7:48 am #125322AnonymousChuck your desparation to see Spurs in the CL by any means is sickening but you too thick skinned to let that even be a worry.

25th June 2020 at 8:09 am #125338Chucky, the FA have no say on who competes in the CL had they had a say they would have probably awarded a place to the winners of the FA Cup a long time ago.
However this will please you “Article 4.08 of the UEFA rulebook states: βA club which is not admitted to the competition is replaced by the next best-placed club in the top domestic championship of the same association, provided the new club fulfils the admission criteria.β
Personally I’ve got no desire to see Chelsea compete in the CL purely because of City being banned because it just doesn’t feel right we started the season knowing that to be in the CL you needed to finish 4tb and if Chelsea don’t do that imo they shouldn’t be competing in the CL however based on the above seemingly whoever finishes in 5th place will compete in the CL.

25th June 2020 at 10:02 am #125427AnonymousI also would not like to see Chelsea be in the CL by default. Probably want make it anyway as we have the hardest run in by far. I always knew those home points we dropped to lower league teams would come back to bite us.

25th June 2020 at 10:09 am #125433Puppy, I guess I’m wrong but I thought we had this debate on here many moons ago and we concluded UEFA awrded the number of spots, and the FA decided how to award them, ergo they could award them to the Cup Winners if they wanted too…
But then again, your little post does suggest otherwise!
Hey Buffy, you’ve been missed, how’s it hanging?

25th June 2020 at 11:32 am #125500It’s a UEFA competition Chucky and they set the rules of their own competition and who participates if the FA were the decision makers on who participates I suspect they would have awarded a place to the FA Cup Winners a long time ago.
Anyway UEFA’s article 4.08 clears up what happens should City lose their appeal.

25th June 2020 at 11:35 am #125505Tough times at Arsenal currently Stevo. But you’ve got some great youngsters and Saka looks like he will sign a new contract which would be good news.

25th June 2020 at 11:46 am #125517Anonymous“Pep Guardiola insists that Manchester Cityβs FA Cup quarter-final at Newcastle is their βfinalβ, and he will rotate his side against Chelsea accordingly.”
AKA, dropping points against Chelsea is an easier way to confirm the PL title to Liverpool than possibly having to do so in our home stadium, against Liverpool, where we are actually fighting the PL in order to not even host.

25th June 2020 at 12:02 pm #125531AnonymousJust want to say that yesterday’s game was much much better. You could still see that the players weren’t entirely match fit but they were a lot closer. It took us a while to get our flow going but the great play that I’ve associated with this team showed up in large enough spells.
I had the first 3 goals spoiled by a bit of a tit but they were still great. Was I the only one surprised that we beat Crystal Palace 4-0? I’ve got to say too, if we needed more, we’d have got them.
How do Liverpool supporters want to finalize the title? I’ve been thinking about it and I’m honestly not sure. On one hand, we could hope City are still in it by the time our match comes up. On the other, City will have an extra 2 competitive games behind them. City will be entirely match-fit, while we will be close ourselves but not quite there. Will it be enough? If we had only stayed in the FA Cup, we would have an extra game.
Although I much prefer Chelsea over City, I think I’m hoping for us to get the chance to win the PL against City. If we lose, we get the same chance the week after.

25th June 2020 at 12:19 pm #125548Personally, I couldn’t care less about it not being qualification by default. If Utd get CL because of City being banned, I’ll be fine with that. As it happens, I still think getting 5th or winning the Europa is our only way in. We’ve picked up some form now but I think we’ve left it a little too late. I think Chelsea will win tonight 2-1. City have absolutely nothing to play for and Chelsea have everything to play for. There is no better time to play City.
Lots being made of Chelsea’s tough run but I just don’t buy it. With the exception of Liverpool away, who will also have nothing to play for by then, Chelsea’s games are all winnable. Leicester and Sheff Utd are both struggling for points and Sheff Utd look like they’ve masively lost their momentum. They were very poor last night and against Newcastle. Leicester, too, are clinging on to a CL place with 1 win in their last 6 games.
I actually think there’s a slim chance of Utd catching Leicester rather than Chelsea. I just think Chelsea are in a fortunate position that their toughest remaining games are either against teams rapidly losing form (Leicester, Sheff Utd) or teams with nothing to play for (City, Liverpool).
Don’t get me wrong. I think Utd will continue picking up points where we should. My point is I can’t see Chelsea dropping enough to let us, or anyone else, in.

25th June 2020 at 12:20 pm #125549Ah correction, I see Leicester away is a cup game. Even less chance of slipping up in the league then IMO
