25th February 2018 at 10:33 pm #16611AnonymousClassic Jose team performance, everything that has been missing from our own league form. 3 league defeats on the bounce… can’t complain if top four becomes unobtainable when you lose to bottom placed sides either. Burnley palace etc.
United were not great today but got the three points. Well done and played for them too.
As for Chelsea… the players are not interested in playing for conte. They will play for a move and that result against barcelona prove it. City next who will get the points and we will be four defeats on the trot and I can’t remember the last time that happened even in joses second spell. Troubling times
For a club that won the title last season huh? It’s rebuild time. Bring in the kids… they can’t be worse than Pedro_____________________________

25th February 2018 at 11:49 pm #16612AnonymousWhat’s really annoyed me about alli’s dive today (another day, another dive) is that if he just stayed up, the keeper would’ve wiped him out and he probably would’ve won a penalty, although unlikely given Davies didn’t get one for being wiped out by the keeper in the first half.

26th February 2018 at 12:05 am #16613442, not that it makes to much difference but Chelsea beat WBA 3 nil after the Bournemouth and Watford defeats so it’s 3 defeats in 4.
I’m not sure there was any evidence today of the players not playing for Conte and though it won’t change the result if you look at the stats we were the dominant side across every parameter. But I will be amazed if Conte is there next season.
If we drop it off the CL place this season though you’re right it’s losing to sides we should be beating that’s taken it’s toll.
Anyway on the positive it’s City up next at the Etihad and an easy win for us!?

26th February 2018 at 6:28 am #16614Saw this post somewhere else, not over “there” mind you, this person can spell! 🙂
Of all the big clubs I find spurs the most admirable, and would be happy to see them edge Chelsea and the Manchester clubs out if they possibly can, but honestly, you think there were three penalties there today?
Alli and kane are terrific players, but they go looking for penalties so shamelessly it stands out even in the modern game. At least sterling, Zaha, welbeck, vardy etc can claim to be travelling at speed when slight contact sends them flying (a dubious defence most of the time). Alli looks for the contact more than he looks for the goal, frequently belly-flopping from a standing start.
Nobody ever wins anything without being streetwise, the spurs front two aren’t rolling around holding their faces or anything, and in many ways they are the product of their times.
Even so, at least half the penalties awarded in the premier league are so soft that not only would they not have been given at any stage of the last century, they would have been considered embarrassing. A penalty was never something a player ‘won’. It wasn’t a skill, and you certainly wouldn’t be congratulated for it. It was awarded when, through deliberate foul play, the opponent made it impossible for the forward to keep playing at a vital stage of an attack. Now it’s an aim in itself, and so ingrained that the modern supporter seems to have lost context.
How many times do you hear pundits saying ‘Well, there’s a slight contact there so technically it’s a penalty’? Does my head in, but they are ex pro footballers, and come from a world where they have to do whatever they can to win. We are the paying customer, and whilst we may not need to save professionals from themselves, we might need to save ourselves from them.
English domestic football now is better than its ever been. Fitness, skill, speed, stadiums, coverage… all are vastly superior to previous generations. Do we really need to see so many games decided not by skill and effort, but by a technicality? So many fine players devoting themselves to exploiting loopholes in the rules rather than grabbing the one chance they’ve got in life to find out, and show the world, how good they are? And we are going to pay to watch this? To rejoice in it even?
Send out a new directive to referees: unless it’s a stonewall foul, keep your whistle out of your mouth. No more ‘buying free kicks’ or ‘being clever’. Contact is not the same as a foul. Let the game flow, let the players they have to actually win the game themselves. We’ll all be better off.

26th February 2018 at 10:16 am #16619Big J… damn right (especially the last paragraph!), hard to argue against any of it! I know it was “against” us, but Moose’s booking for his foul on Townsend yesterday was a joke…

26th February 2018 at 10:37 am #16620AnonymousMav – we stopped playing after the ref gave the offside, and there was a clear handball in the build up to the Chelsea goal.

26th February 2018 at 10:50 am #16622Anonymousmav… Probably honours even for the season… united could have nicked a result at the bridge united did one over us in classic Jose style.
999, so underwhelmed by the run of form I forgot WBA… Either way, can we say the City clash is a CL qualification six pointer?
Think it’s time we all turned our attention to the relegation battle, core blimey it’s looking too tight to be right!

26th February 2018 at 1:41 pm #16627Maverick, that’s my bigger criticism mate Chelsea let it slip when they were on top and then settled for a point in the second half poor defending too imo for both United goals particularly the 2nd one. But performance wise overall it was another step in the right direction.
All Chelsea need to do now is recruit Nathan Hawks and we’re sorted for a CL place.?

26th February 2018 at 2:40 pm #16634999 & 442-I felt like Chelsea took their feet off the gas after they went 1-0 and could have easy added the 2nd.Not many United fans were expecting a win, most of us were going for a draw.A draw would have been a fair outcome!

26th February 2018 at 3:15 pm #16640I’ve kept this away from the Man City individual page as there’s should be more about celebrating a great triumph and I’m sure they don’t want to be reading the Arsenal stuff that comes with it.
Firstly, a point to make on both Chelsea and Man City in praise being that evidently with rich or no rich owners, they have taken EVERY competition seriously and have never shown any snobbery towards the League Cup which is still in my view a great little trophy to acquire.
All generation of fans, young, old, even little infants can remember a great day out if they’ve gone for instance to Wembley and ultimately something to show. That’s what a lot of it is about, to be able to have something to show for your support and be rewarded.
I am hugely disappointed with the Gunners and that’s probably one of the most feeble of performances ever to be seen on a big occasion. The bare minimum is to stand up and be counted for and give a good account of yourselves. What can Wilshere alone do, if Ozil doesn’t even want to get his hands dirty?
I see B grade players in which I do find sad when I once upon of time seen individual great team leaders like Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp, Patrick Viera, Ian Wright give presence and an identity. I honestly don’t know what Arsenal stand for anymore and I really feel for their supporters. The fact that 3 veteran type of players were allowed to score speaks volumes. Mustafi has his head up in the clouds when a Steve Bould or a Tony Adams would have clearly won that header with ease.
It was just unravelling all that hard work to get into the final in the first place with the attitude of being able to beat a top quality side in Man City in just second gear – never going to happen.
If Arsenal DO fail to win ANY trophy and make the top 4, then a line has to finally be drawn under Wenger.

26th February 2018 at 3:19 pm #16641Haha, Mav, great video mate. I just seen up to 1:40, and that’s how I would be feeling too.
We’re starting to get on the right track, but 6 years without any Silverware is still a failure for us – like this fan, I care a little too much 🙂
