Yeah, never quite got the hype about Wee Jude, decent player for sure, but not in the 150 million bracket (how fooking daft are transfer fees these days!?!?!? Back in my day you could buy about 6 clubs for that, let alone players!)… even in todays hyper-inflated market, anything more than 60/70 million is too much…
Anyway, still surprised the trigger hasn’t been pulled… a lot of reports about a very split dressing room with some wanting him gone, some actually supporting Conte and agreeeing with what he said… (but the again, it’s the infamous “dressing room source”… so who really knows what!)
I was looking at our sqaud for next season, with all the guys coming back… that really is a decent squad, there are some quality players there, just need to get a tune out of them.

21st March 2023 at 10:55 am #205522It’s absolutely insane Chucks. Is he really that good in the first place?
It doesn’t take a genius to work out that he will not be the ultimate magic wand.
Our time is up. Regrettably, we didn’t achieve another Title, but I don’t think any other club would be able to compete the way Liverpool did way into the 90s point bracket, finish a single point on 2 separate occasions behind one of the best teams in Europe and not end up with a Title.
We need a Reset. It’s a testament to Jurgen that he kept hold of players he inherited and developed them as well as signing his own. That’s the model to go back to. It’s not 100 million on 1 player; but 40 here and there on good players that can grow to be better players. Allison and Van Dijk back then were to take us to the next level.
Realistically, we may bitterly and painfully have to accept that’s where we are and have to restart from the beginning.

21st March 2023 at 10:58 am #205523I see the certain names pulling out of the Inter friendly, yet Southgate moans about not having enough players when there are players that he simply isn’t noticing or giving a chance. What about James Ward-Prowse for instance? What does he need to do to get noticed?!

21st March 2023 at 12:00 pm #205524Bloody hell, ‘Arry has chucked his hat back in the ring… that might be worth it for sheer entertainment value until the end of the season… π π π at least the players would be playing with a smile on their Chevy Chase’s!!
Nil, mate, you’ve got plenty of pots to smile about… π … seriously though, Top4 is getting harder and harder every year, it almost seems like not only you have to be on top of your game, but you also have to half hope at least 3 other teams are having “dodgy” seasons… certainly the most competitive/toughest league in Europe…

21st March 2023 at 12:10 pm #205525So Palace go back to Hodgson. And now Spurs could turn back to a former manager. Like the film industry going back to remaking old films or sequels. They reach back for the comfort of the tried and tested.

21st March 2023 at 1:27 pm #205527Chucks, it is what it is my good friend. Everyone needs to let off steam every now and then. We had a great time and some good years; just a bad season this season that we’re trying to come to terms with and we’ll just have to ride it out.
Mate, it’s refreshingly and has been more competitive as we’re now seeing Brentford and Brighton in the mix and teams taking points off each other.
We’ll have to wait and see what’s going to happen but I still think Spurs have a good chance to nail 4th and shake off Newcastle if they really believe in themselves and knuckle down.
Teams need to commit themselves to 90 minutes and when they take their eye off the ball, that’s what lets them down with the number of goals conceded in the second half.

21st March 2023 at 1:29 pm #205528Well, maybe some out there just enjoy working haha π The Gold Course becomes boring after a while. Nothing like good old fashion terraces and that aura of a Saturday Afternoon buzz with thousands of fans chanting your name. Hello Roy π

21st March 2023 at 1:58 pm #205529Absolutely still have a chance of Top4… the ball is still in our court, so to speak, and until we get in a position whereby we need other teams to drop points, I’ll still be vaguely confident… just need to iron out the Jekyal & Hyde approach we currently have… having said that, everybody’s form is so up and down, it could very well go down to the last couple of games… it’s all there for the taking and some nice 6 pointers coming up after the break…

21st March 2023 at 3:05 pm #205530What I don’t understand with conte is why he feels the need to behave like this.
He came in on short term contract with clear target of top 4 and champs league place. He did exactly what he was paid to do first season and despite not kicking on this season he still has them in 4th albeit with Newcastle with few games in hand. He should have just seen the season out as a pro because then he could have likely come out of this with two top 4 finishes in his two seasons, something his successor will probably not match.
A lot of people, myself included, agree with what he said but I disagree with him saying it at this point in the manner he did.
I remember comparing poch record to Harry’s and concluding that despite the appearance of progress, in terms if win percentage they were very similar and there wasn’t much progress. Now they have had two of the best managers in the world back to back and again the ceiling is top 4.
Should be clear following this that any criticism for failing to challenge for title or trophies can not be put on the manager unless the level of investment in the first team and the quality of recruitment are both improved considerably.
That’s what conte was pointing out and what has really pissed him off.

21st March 2023 at 4:46 pm #205531Lucky, from outsiders looking in; we don’t know what else might have driven Conte to react in such way. Don’t forget, he’s had time off too due to illness.
The job retaining at the top is more stressful than starting at the bottom and trying to build your way up. It’s managing expectations.
He’s a winner mate with pride and ambition. He could go through the motions, take his pay-cheque and walk away, but he wants more out of that job. He wants fulfilment and satisfaction.
Generally, my impression is that all club managers feel the pressure whatever their club status is at. They are brought in to achieve results. Spurs blow hot and cold and that can lead to a lot of frustration. Protecting a lead away from home with 10 minutes left shouldn’t be too difficult.
My guess is that Saturday was a culmination of a series of underlying bottled up thoughts. It happens mate in the workplace and we need things in place to support these people.

22nd March 2023 at 6:53 am #205532He’s still there… getting rid and putting Wee Ryan in charge is the very obvious and quick solution, I can only assume Levy is going for a “proper” manager straight away… I wonder!! Starting to get the feeling we’re going to be getting a more of a “re-build” manager than a “tinker” manager, and our time in the sun will soon be getting cloudy, with the occassional cup run and trips to the more unusual parts of Europe the best we can look forward too…
Nil, kinda get the point your making, and in Conte’s defense he hasn’t had the best of years on a personal level for sure, but I do draw the line at being overly sympathetic to people earning more in a week than most of us do in a decade to basically organize a another bunch of overpaid toospots to kick a ball about!!

22nd March 2023 at 8:50 am #205534Putting aside Conte’s obvious personal problems this season the kind of outburst we saw on Saturday has been a consistent part of his career wherever he’s been and it was predictable that it would end like this.

22nd March 2023 at 9:36 am #205536Oh yeah, was thinking that exact thought when I was typing it, but considering how bad we were in the nineties and noughties, a few appearences in the Champions League was a little ray of sunshine… nevermind, looks like we’ll be back in your shadow for the next few seasons at least!

22nd March 2023 at 10:11 am #205538Doubt you’ll find many Spudlover’s who disagreed with Conte to be honest, cyber chum (I certainly didn’t!), maybe he shouldn’t have yelled it in public perhaps, but needed to be said at some level… no doubt the last 6/7 years were more “successful” than the previous 20/25… but we’ve barely been treading water over the last 2/3 maybe even 4 years when it was time to really push on and achieve something “double sunny”…
But hindsight is a wonderful thing and not many are blessed with that talent…

23rd March 2023 at 4:19 pm #205541I’m a bit baffled by it too banjo but his contract expires in summer and I doubt Levy will want to pay out. Heard rumour that there is a clause in conte’s contract stipulating compensation of full year salary if sacked any time this season and though I am not certain of that it would help explain Levy’s hesitancy.
Impossible job for conte’s replacement mate, whoever it is will be expected to do better but destined to do worse imo.
